TEMECULA, Calif. (KGTV) -- The United States Geological Survey is reporting that an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.4 struck near Temecula. According to the USGS, the quake hit around 6:24 p.m. roughly 20 miles east of Temecula. A 3.0 magnitude aftershock hit the same area at 6:53 p.m. Residents of the town reported feeling the quake. According to the USGS "did you feel it" map, residents all over San Diego and Orange Counties felt the earthquake. Area businesses reported feeling shaking. An employee with Clancy's Tractor Services, which is near the epicenter, says he knew right away it was an earthquake due to recent activity in the area. The 49-year-old son of a prominent Macomb County, Michigan judge faces first-degree murder charges in the death of his father, whose body was found on a Florida golf course. Police said James Scandirito Jr. quickly became a suspect in the case after he called the Boca Raton police on April 1 to report his father, James "Skip" Scandirito Sr., missing. The son said his father never returned home on March 31, but Scandirito Jr.'s story had inconsistencies, according to police. Scandirito Sr.'s body was later discovered at an abandoned golf course in Boca Raton. The Alachua County police arrested Scandirito Jr. after he was seen driving his vehicle with stolen license plates. He's being held without bond in his father's death. Fifty-eight people died, and 851 were injured after shooter Stephen Paddock fired more than 1,100 rounds at a crowd of country music fans. Paddock was in a room on Floor 32 at Mandalay Bay hotel and casino when he committed the act last fall.It is the deadliest mass shooting committed by an individual in the United States.There will be several memorial services and vigils around Las Vegas to mark the day, including one near the Route 91 Harvest Festival grounds. That vigil will start at 6 p.m. local time near Reno Avenue and Giles Street. Afterward, attendees will be allowed to walk around the site.
