SALEM, Ore. — Oregon Gov. Kate Brown says “dozens of people” are missing from the large wildfires that have burned across the state.Brown made the announcement at a news briefing Friday afternoon, and said the reports of missing people come from blazes in southern Oregon near Medford and the northern part of the state near the state capital of Salem.At least four wildfire deaths of have been reported in Oregon.Hundreds of firefighters, aided by helicopters dropping fire retardant and water, battled two large wildfires Friday that threatened to merge near the most populated part of Oregon, including the suburbs of Portland.The number of people ordered to evacuate statewide because of fires rose to an estimated 500,000 — more than 10% of the state’s 4.2 million people, the Oregon Office of Emergency Management reported late Thursday.The Oregon Convention Center in Portland was among the buildings being transformed into shelters for evacuees. SAN DIEGO (AP and KGTV) -- Washing Senators are remembering John McCain's momentous vote against a Republican effort to repeal the Obama-era health law. Of those remembering McCain is Sen Susan Collins, who told CNN's "State of the Union" that she and GOP colleague Lisa Murkowski of Alaska — both repeal opponents — spoke to McCain before the July 2017 vote because they knew he was struggling with the decision.Collins says he pointed to them and simply said, "You two are right!"Vice President Mike Pence was waiting to speak with McCain next, Collins says, but she knew McCain's "no" decision would stick. Collins said, "Once John McCain made up his mind about something, there was no shaking him."McCain would later famously hold up his hand and vote no, ending the measure. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A Baja California resident pleaded guilty today in San Diego to operating an unlicensed money transmitting business in connection with the sale of hundreds of thousands of dollars in Bitcoin to more than 1,000 customers throughout the United States from January 2015 to April 2016.According to his plea agreement, Jacob Burrell-Campos, 21, admitted to operating a Bitcoin exchange without registering with the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network of the U.S. Treasury Department, and without implementing the required anti-money laundering safeguards.Burrell advertised his business on Localbitcoins.com, and communicated with his customers through email and text messages, often using encrypted applications, according to the plea agreement.Burrell negotiated a commission of 5 percent above the prevailing exchange rate, and accepted cash in person, through nationwide ATMs, and through MoneyGram. Burrell admitted that he had no anti-money laundering or "know your customer" program, and performed no due diligence on the source of his customers' money, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.The defendant initially purchased his supply of Bitcoin through a U.S.-based, regulated exchange, but his account was soon closed because of a large number of suspicious transactions. He then resorted to a cryptocurrency exchange in Hong Kong, where he purchased a total of .29 million in Bitcoin, in hundreds of separate transactions, between March 2015 and April 2017, according to federal prosecutors. Burrell also admitted that he exchanged his U.S. currency, which he kept in Mexico, with Joseph Castillo, a San Diego-based precious metals dealer.Between late 2016 and early 2018, Burrell and others imported more than million in U.S. currency on almost a daily basis. Burrell admitted that they did this in amounts slightly below the ,000 reporting requirement.Castillo pleaded guilty to making a false statement on his federal tax returns and will be sentenced in December.According to his plea agreement, Burrell agreed to forfeit more than 3,000 to the United States. He will be sentenced in February. 2154

SAN BERNARDINO (KGTV) - With their backs to the wall, facing elimination, an unforgiving heat, and trying to stave off fatigue from a rigorous schedule, the Park View Little League all-stars survived to play another game at the West Regional tournament in San Bernardino.Keyed by slugger Jose Mendoza and stellar pitching by Kainoa Baptista, the Green Monsters kept their postseason run alive while ending the Arizona Sunnyside Little League's hopes of advancing.  The squad from Chula Vista defeated Sunnyside 9-5 in an elimination game Tuesday afternoon.PVLL, which suffered its first loss of the postseason on Monday, took an early 3-0 lead on a first-inning three-run blast to right center by Mendoza.The Southern California champs broke the game open in the third inning.  Down two outs with runners on first and second, Aiden Skinner punched a deep single to right field scoring Jordan Bleisch.The long inning and blistering 108-degree heat seemed to wear down Arizona starting pitcher Cristobal Lorta.  Lorta started struggling with his form allowing Park View to extend their lead 7-0 on two wild pitches with runners on third and an RBI single to Conner Alonzo.Sunnyside's decision to keep Lorta on the mound in the fourth inning backfired when the leadoff batter, Ivan Rodriguez Jr., ripped the first pitch down the left field line for a double. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 17-year-old from San Diego driving a vehicle police suspected to be stolen was shot by a detective during a traffic stop, Hemet police said Saturday.Detectives with the department's Crime Suppression Unit conducted the traffic stop at about 9:45 p.m. Wednesday in the 300 block of North San Jacinto Street, Lt. Jeff Davis said."Detectives transitioned to a high risk stop after a records check revealed the vehicle was reported stolen from the San Diego area. An officer involved shooting occurred during the stop," Davis said.The San Diego teen was hospitalized with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and later released to his guardian after receiving treatment, according to the news release.It was unclear what led to the shooting, and a call to Davis by a reporter Saturday morning was not returned.No officers were injured in the encounter, and an investigation was ongoing. 910
