Two nooses were discovered on the grounds of the Mississippi state Capitol on Monday morning, along with signs referring to Tuesday's Senate special election, a state spokesperson said."We are hanging nooses to remind people that times have not changed," reads one of the signs, said Chuck McIntosh, director of communications for the Mississippi Department of Finance and Administration, which oversees the Capitol Police."Tuesday Nov 27th thousands of Mississippians will vote for a senator. VENICE, Florida — Six dolphins were found dead on beaches in Sarasota County in the past 24 hours."The fact that it's starting to impact our dolphins makes us even more nervous about what's to come," said Rebeccah Hazelkorn, senior biologist at Mote Marine. Venice Police Marine Patrol found two deceased dolphins on Tuesday, another two on Wednesday around 8 a.m. and then two more around 2:30 p.m. "Dolphins are much faster-moving animals. They have been able to detect it and swim out of it. Turtles are actually pretty good at detecting red tide and avoiding it. It's just where the animals are going and how bad the bloom is and how fast it gets into their system," said Hazelkorn. Mote Marine Aquarium's Stranding Investigations Program says it recovered those dolphins. Those deceased dolphins were discovered in several locations in Sarasota County including one found in the Intracoastal Waterway near Snake Island in Venice and another located on Caspersen Beach.We spoke with neighbors who found two of the dolphins stranded on Casey Key in Nokomis. "Its fin was up. I didn't know whether or not it was a shark or even a small whale. As I got closer, I realized it was a dolphin," said resident Jeanne May.The aquarium says three of the dolphins are males, the other three are females.Mote staff will conduct necropsies on the animals in Sarasota to investigate what happened to them. They were all reportedly found moderately to severely decomposed, which makes it difficult to examine and collect samples for analysis.Mote did not say whether or not red tide played a role in their deaths, but it has been impacting marine life on the Florida Gulf Coast this summer. 1757

UPDATE 8:54 p.m. - Nov. 9, 2019SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego Police Department has called off Saturday's Amber Alert after determining that the man who reported his vehicle stolen with a child inside filed a false report.The man told officers that his acquaintance, 29-year-old Osman Rahimi, drove off in his vehicle with an 11-year-old inside, according to SDPD Lt. Shawn Takeuchi.The man described the boy, named Johnny Diaz, as a Hispanic child, 4 feet tall, wearing a white shirt and “Transformers” pajama pants."Detectives contacted the California Highway Patrol to put out an Amber Alert in an effort to find the boy," said Takeuchi.Oceanside Police Department officers located the vehicle and Rahimi near the Aliso Creek Rest Area but the child was not with Rahimi."SDPD officers took custody of Rahimi and transported him to SDPD headquarters along with the man who made the report, and the Amber Alert was cancelled," said Takeuchi.Takeuchi said they conducted numerous interviews and determined that no child was involved. Detectives are still working to determine if Rahimi is responsible for stealing the car.The man who made the report, who has not yet been identified, may also face charged of filing a false report, according to Takeuchi."While it appears the original report was false, the mission of our department is to protect all life," said Takeuchi. VENICE, Fla. -- A Florida pet groomer is under investigation by the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office after a recent video of alleged animal abuse surfaced on social media.The video taken by former Happy Puppy Pet Spa employee Briana Brady, shows another employee putting both hands around a dog's neck and laying it down on the table, leaving Brady to label the action as animal abuse. Brady first witnessed the alleged abuse when another dog left the salon with a broken jaw.“The dog was picked up by the throat, choked, shaken and then his head slammed on the table,” Brady said describing the video.The viral Facebook video has over 250,000 views. Brady worked at the Spa for four weeks prior to posting the video on social media.“It was very hard for me to witness any of that happening," Brady said through tears.The woman in the video who owns the spa, Phyliis Lucca has a different perspective. She claims that her actions weren't abuse, but instead necessary steps for the dog's overall health."If you see the video, I know it looks bad, but that’s not what I’m doing," Lucca explained. “What the dog did was pass out and she faints and what I did was hold her head and shake her. That’s all.”Two weeks prior to the video going public, a puppy named Pumpkin left the spa with a broken jaw and bruises all over his stomach.Lucca claims that Brady was the one responsible."The only one that was in the room alone, with the dog, was Briana.”However, both Brady and Pumpkin's owner, says they believe Lucca was the only one who could've have harmed the dog.
