SAN DIEGO (KGTV, CNS) - San Diego police were searching today for men believed to have stolen cell phones and a set of keys from three San Diego State students near campus, a university official said.The robbery happened Friday shortly before 12:30 a.m. in the 5600 block of Mary Lane Drive and Dorothy Drive.Police reported three phones and a set of keys were taken from three SDSU students. One of the students was taken to a hospital for further medical treatment. (KGTV) -- Three people are dead following a crash on Interstate 805 in University City.The California Highway Patrol says the crash happened in the northbound lanes of I-805 at Miramar Road around 4:30 p.m.According to CHP, the crash happened after a wrong-way driver drove onto the road at a high rate of speed."Through the investigation, we will try to determined where this individual, if they got on the freeway the wrong way, where they got on," CHP Officer, Jake Sanchez said. Hector Puga was on his way to Los Angeles when the car in front of him combusted. He somehow managed to escape the crash and flames. "All I can do is hold onto the steering wheel and run over everything that exploded," Puga said. He escaped with just a flat tire and broken windshield.10News also spoke to a pair of sisters who had just finished up a fun day of shopping at UTC Mall when hopped into their car. Minutes later, they endured a near-death experience. "It was like a scene from a movie," she said. "All the cars were stopping. There was smoke. Fire. Loud noise. As soon as I look up in front of me, that car other there was flying and tumbling down the freeway."They said the driver of the flipped over SUV managed to crawl out of the car.  The survivors carried him to the shoulder, where an ambulance later picked him up. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) --The FDA has placed new restrictions on a controversial birth control device called Essure.The maker of the implant, Bayer, will only be allowed to sell to providers who agree to fully inform women about the risks and side effects.A San Diego woman who had the Essure implant is now suing the physician who performed the procedure.She says she wasn't given enough information and wants to warn others about her experience.Three months after Essure was implanted she began experiencing severe pain. SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KGTV) - A third gender option will be available for California drivers licenses and ID’s starting in 2019. The law, SB 179, was signed by Governor Jerry Brown in October. It will allow people to apply for a ‘non-binary’ gender marker if they do not identify as either male or female. “For me, it was surprising to see this change,” said Al Johnson, a transgender activist and member of Trans Family Support Services. Johnson is non-binary and uses pronouns they/them. But with that surprise, came excitement. “Not only does it mean we’re being recognized by society and the people around us but were also being recognized by government entities as valid and real people,” they said. Johnson says they know people who plan on changing their gender to non-binary, but so far, they have not decided to do it on their own license. “I’ve definitely considered it, but in the end I don’t think I’m going to,” they said. “I just came out to my parents and in my personal life I’m trying to navigate that.” The DMV’s website is encouraging those who want to apply for the change to schedule an appointment as early as January 2, 2019. 1154
