DEL MAR, Calif., (KGTV)-- After a nine-month hiatus, the controversial Crossroads of the West Gun Show is back at the Del Mar Fairgrounds this weekend. Dozens of people returned to Jimmy Durante Road with their picket signs Saturday morning to protest the gun show. Many did not think they would be there again."We thought we already had this issue decided," Rose Ann Sharp said. The founder of the website "neveragainca.org" organized the protest after the gun show temporarily was reinstated. Last September, protesters convinced the Del Mar Fairgrounds Board of Directors to suspend the gun show, but a judge's ruling this past June allowed the event to return."I feel really good that the court found it in our favor," California Rifle and Pistol Association Executive Director, Rick Travis said. "What that does is it protects San Diegans' and Californians' first amendment rights."In response, State Legislators passed AB893. The bill bans the sale of guns and ammunition, specifically at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, starting in 2021. 10News met several teenagers who joined the protest. 16-year-old Daphne Porras said she came to the rally because she was scared. At Canyon Crest Academy in Carmel Valley, she said lockdown drills are the new norm. "Unfortunately, it is a realistic possibility," Porras said. "I feel like our generation has almost gotten used to it."Her friend Robbie Glatts echoed her sentiments. "I don't like going to school scared anymore," Glatts said. "I don't like making plans on where I'm going to go. I have a plan for every single class. I have items like, 'oh there's textbooks over there that I could throw.'"They said that is why they are supporting AB893. "This isn't about first or second amendment rights," Sharp said. "This is about commerce, and the State has the authority to decide what business it will conduct on state-owned property."Governor Gavin Newsom has until October 13, 2019, to sign or veto the legislation. Sharp said she is confident he will sign it into law. If he does, gun show advocates said they would continue to fight. "We are going to appeal this all the way to the Supreme Court," Travis said. "This is a state-wide fight for 40 million Californians' rights. If they take these right away, this is not where they are going to stop."AB893 only applies at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. DETROIT - The bodies of 11 infants were found in the ceiling of a former funeral home on Detroit's east side Friday evening, according to Detroit Police. Police say the bodies were found in a box and in a small casket. Cadaver dogs were on scene, and in all police found the 11 bodies of infants and stillborns. The Cantrell Funeral Home was shut down earlier this year due to several violations and "deplorable, unsanitary conditions." Police say a tip through the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) sparked the investigation. LARA reported Cantrell Funeral Home had 60 days to either assign its existing prepaid contracts to another person registered under the Prepaid Act and notify the Department and contract buyers of the assignment within 30 days of the assignment.The funeral home's other option was to cancel their current contracts and issue refunds to each contract buyer, providing copies of refund checks and correspondence to each contract buyer to the Department within 90 days, unless the Department modifies, vacates, or extends the terms of the Order.A spokesperson from LARA has released this statement regarding their investigation: 1228

DENVER — "Game of Thrones" fans who wanted to own something like the near-mythical "Dire Wolves" on the series are now abandoning Huskies in record numbers."People have actually asked me if we have any Dire Wolves. That doesn't exist." said Maren Gibson with the Arctic Breeds Rescue, which rescues Huskies, Malamutes and other northern breeds in Utah and Colorado. "They have no real knowledge of the breed."Now, many of those dogs are being found on the street or abandoned in shelters."We've said amongst ourselves, 'What is going on with all these lost Huskies?'" said Stephanie Weber, who helps run the Facebook group Lost and Found Dogs of Colorado. Weber said they have recently seen a surge in found Huskies that no one is looking for."So, it seems sort of like maybe they are not just getting loose," said Weber. "Maybe someone is turning them loose, getting rid of them." At the Dumb Friends League Shelter in Aurora, there has also been a significant increase in the number of Huskies and Malamutes. The shelter has seen a 25 percent increase in the last fiscal year, compared to only a 2.5 percent increase the year before.Some are strays, but almost half of them have been surrendered by their owners."The reasons people are giving when they are surrendering the dogs are time and space, which means they don't have enough time for the dog, they don't have enough space for the dog," said Maia Brusseau, a spokeswoman with the Dumb Friends League. "If you want to adopt this type of dog, you need to make sure it's right for your lifestyle."The high-energy breed can be a challenge for many owners."Northern breeds are difficult," said Weber, who is fostering a Husky mix. "They're stubborn. They're runners. They're escape artists, They're chewers. They're very vocal. They have high energy and need a lot of exercise. They're great dogs if you're willing to make your life fit around them."Weber said too many people choose pets as an extension of the favorite show or movie and not based on what is the best fit for their family."When '101 Dalmatians' came out, everyone wanted a Dalmatian. It happens with every trend like that. but 15 years is a long time to live with not the right dog," said Weber.She recommends volunteering at a wolf rescue if you want to see something like a Dire Wolf or fostering the breed before you decide to adopt. 2427
