The bus tour will visit 21 cities up and down California, including Chula Vista, over the next two weeks. At each stop, Prop. 6 supporters will hold rallies, hand out campaign stickers, posters, and other items, and push voters to vote for the gas tax repeal. The events will be held during the rush-hour period. 312

The American Academy of Pediatrics published a new clinical report accompanying the study, with recommendations for breastfeeding and pregnant women who use marijuana. The recommendations state that marijuana should not be used during pregnancy and that marijuana use while breastfeeding is discouraged -- but they also recommend women be informed about the lack of definitive research on this topic and counseled about the current concerns regarding potential adverse effects of THC on pregnancy and child development. This emphasis on being informed was something that stood out to Dr. Alison Stuebe, an associate professor of maternal-fetal medicine at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill, who was not involved in the clinical report or the study."Very often, medical documents make statements that women should 'not be allowed to breastfeed when they use marijuana.' That approach presumes that women need to be told what to do, rather than being given information to make informed decisions," said Stuebe, who is also a board member of the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine."As a women's health provider, I believe we should provide women with information and advance their understanding so they can make informed choices," she said. "I was really happy to see counseling as an emphasis of this document."Dr. Sheryl Ryan, a professor of pediatrics and chief of the Division of Adolescent Medicine at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, wrote an editorial that accompanied the new study. She wrote that both the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recommend counseling moms to abstain from all cannabis products if they wish to breastfeed. The new study provides support for those recommendations, she wrote."But the picture is incomplete without our understanding of what is happening at the level of those infants exposed to cannabinoid-containing breast milk," she wrote. "Hopefully, the calls for research to answer these important questions will not go unheeded." 2072
The city first established the shelters in 2017 following the region's hepatitis A outbreak, which killed 20 people and infected dozens more, many of them homeless. The City Council, acting as the San Diego Housing Authority, approved 12-month extensions for all three shelters in June. 286
The day had started very differently when news broke that the Trump Administration rejected supplying aid to clean up areas destroyed by six of the state's wildfires, including the Valley Fire which burned Irving and Anita Beeman's home.“That makes me really mad,” Anita said, before the decision was announced to award the state emergency aid.On Friday morning, a White House spokesperson notified the New York Times in part that the president had already authorized more aid for the August fires. Spokesperson Judd Deere added to the NYT, "The more recent and separate California submission was not supported by the relevant data that States must provide for approval and the president concurred with the FEMA Administrator's recommendation.”The Valley Fire burned more than 16,000 acres in San Diego's East County. Much of the affected area was in the Cleveland National Forest, right by the Beemans' property. They had to leave before packing most everything, including a box holding the ashes of Anita's parents.Anita said they have fire insurance but still believe federal dollars should be allocated for cleanup. “That's not up to me to take care of the national forest. It's up to [the] federal government to take care of the national forest and make sure that people's houses have a big enough fire break so that it doesn't get near their houses,” added Anita. 1369
