Some students with compromised immune systems will continue to require robust distance learning. But the district's goal is to return to a mostly in-person teaching curriculum. "The whole country knows that we need our schools open," Marten said. "It gets the economy up and running again. It allows parents to go back to work. SAN DIEGO — When the pandemic hit, hundreds of people living in San Diego's bridge shelters moved into the convention center, where they could spread out. More than six months later, they're still there. And it's the site of a Coronavirus outbreak.This month, 115 people living in the convention center tested positive for the the virus, and have moved to county-supplied hotel rooms for isolation.The remainder of the roughly 800 residents continue to live on site, now a one-stop shop of services including meals, laundry and finding permanent housing.Bob McElroy's Alpha Project is one of the city contractors serving the shelter.“It saved hundreds of people's lives, we couldn't have operated in the close proximity that we were in with the bridge shelters and Golden Hall and other facilities so it saved lives and I can't put a cost on that,” McElroy said.But the cost is now coming under scrutiny.From April through December, the city budgeted million to the convention center shelter, though most of that is via federal and state funds dedicated to COVID or homelessness. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 77-year-old pedestrian was seriously injured this afternoon by being struck by a car that was involved in a collision with another vehicle in La Jolla.The collision occurred at the intersection of La Jolla Boulevard and Nautilus Street, according to Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department.A 76-year-old man drove his Toyota Prius into the intersection during a red light and broadsided a Ford F150, which was driven by a 63-year-old man and had entered the intersection on a green light, Heims said.The Ford rotated and struck the pedestrian on the southwest corner of Nautilus Street and La Jolla Boulevard, according to Heims.The pedestrian sustained a Tibia/Fibula fracture in his left leg and other serious injuries, Heims said. The Toyota's driver sustained a minor cut on his face, and the Ford's driver was not injured.The San Diego Police Department's Traffic Division is investigating the crash, but drugs or alcohol is not suspected, according to Heims. 1008

She said she started living in her van for the freedom. “We don’t want to be tied down to an apartment. New reservation data from Open Table shows seated dining in San Diego is down about 80% from this time a year ago. One reason: only about 45 percent of the restaurants in Open Table’s network are even taking reservations. “Just because we've had to open the economy doesn't mean that there is no coronavirus anymore, and I think that's where people are coming from when they don't want to be among the masses,” Lake said. Lake said while delivery is up, overall sales are down 40%. And to make it harder, she's spending 80 cents per order on disposable plates and utensils.
