Participating in a town hall discussion on Monday in the key battleground state of Florida, Joe Biden said he would implement a mandate of masks on federal property if elected president amid the coronavirus pandemic. The mandate would apply to places such as national buildings, Social Security offices and federal courthouses. Biden’s remarks stood in stark contrast with President Donald Trump, who made a point to remove his mask when he entered the White House on Monday after returning from the hospital. Trump is currently recovering from the coronavirus at the White House after a three-day stay at Walter Reed Medical Center.The primetime town hall featuring the former vice president was aired on NBC.Biden conceded that the president does not have the power to call for a nationwide mask mandate in all 50 states, but he would use the bully pulpit of the presidency to compel state and local leaders to enforce mask wearing in public spaces.“I would go out and I would call all of the governors to the White House, some probably wouldn’t come, and I would say… ‘take responsibility,’” Biden said. “Take responsibility and lay out the guidelines. One of the problems is this president said ‘I take no responsibility.’ Literally.“'It is not my responsibility.’ So if it is not his responsibility, he talked about this being like a time of war, we are under attack. As I said earlier, 200,000 plus have died, 50,000 plus a day are getting the virus (the average in recent days has been 40,000 per day), 1,000 per day or thereabout are dying, this is a national emergency.”Biden said that he was not surprised that Trump, his opponent in next month’s presidential election, was infected with the coronavirus.“Quite frankly, I wasn’t surprised,” Biden told NBC’s Lester Holt. “For the last three months, three times a week, I am on the telephone and on Zoom with some of the leading immunologists in the nation and they go through everything that is happening. Police in Parma, Ohio say no one was injured when a car crashed into a home early Thursday morning.The driver drove through a stop sign at the intersection of Twin Lakes Drive and Thornton Drive around 1 a.m. and went up a driveway crashing into the house. The car went into a large window and was left hanging partially inside the living room of the home.Parma police said they had one person in custody, but a few others were able to run away from the crash.The people living in the home were home at the time.No other information was available. 555

(KGTV) - A San Diego woman is demanding answers from Phoenix police after her uncle was shot to death by officers outside his apartment.This week, ABC10 News spoke to 18-year-old San Diegan Sadie Whitaker about her family's outrage surrounding the death of her 40-year-old uncle, Ryan Whitaker, who was shot by Phoenix police in May. It was captured on police body camera video that was just released.“I feel like this needs to be heard everywhere. It needs to be national news. It was just wrong,” said Sadie.Police said a concerned neighbor called in to report that Whitaker and his girlfriend may have been having a physical fight inside their Phoenix apartment.In the police body camera video, officers are heard knocking on the door and identifying themselves. Whitaker opens the door and appears to step out with a gun in his right hand which he then appears puts behind his back and lowers to the ground with his left hand visibly in the air. The encounter quickly escalates and shots are heard being fired.Police said the second officer in the video shot Whitaker, believing the first officer was in immediate danger. Whitaker did not fire, they report.Sadie tells ABC10 News that a few days before that, someone had knocked on their door but took off. “This night, when the same thing happened, he brought his gun to the door for protection,” Sadie added.She said his gun was legally purchased and he had no criminal history.After shots were fired, Whitaker's girlfriend appears to become hysterical. She’s heard asking why officers shot him. An officer is heard telling her that Whitaker had just pulled a gun on them. She responds that it’s dark and someone just knocked on the door.An officer is heard saying, “Your neighbor called saying he heard you guys going at it.” She responds, “Literally, we were making salsa and playing Crash Bandicoot so there may have been some screaming from PlayStation but it wasn't domestic violence or anything.”“I do not think [the shooting] was justified whatsoever,” said Sadie.Whitaker's family is calling for the officers to be terminated and face criminal prosecution.“I want there to be awareness and I want people to know that this kind of stuff is going on,” Sadie says.Phoenix Police told ABC10 News that they can’t comment because of pending litigation. OWENTON, Ky. -- A McDonald's worker who handled food while infected with hepatitis A might have spread the illness to customers, according to a news release from the Three Rivers District Health Department in Kentucky. The announcement arrived less than a week after a similar one from Clermont County, where a Taco Bell worker was diagnosed with the virus."While it is relatively uncommon for restaurant patrons to become infected with hepatitis A due to an infected food handler, anyone who consumed food or drink at the Owenton McDonald's (between Aug. 16-27) is advised to get a hepatitis A vaccination," district health officials wrote in a news release.The McDonald's in question is located at 506 South Main Street in Owenton, Kentucky.Officials added the McDonald's management was cooperating with their investigation, employees had been told to receive a vaccination and the entire staff reviewed standard hygiene practices to prevent transmission.Kentucky is in the midst of a statewide outbreak of hepatitis A, a liver infection that can remain asymptomatic for many weeks before causing fatigue, nausea, joint paint and low-grade fevers. People with existing health problems, especially older adults, can sometimes experience sudden liver shutdowns, according to Mayo Clinic. Hepatitis A is normally transmitted through small particles of feces that remain on an infected person's hands after using the restroom. If they prepare food or drink afterward, they can potentially infect large numbers of unsuspecting people. Effective hand-washing and vaccination reduce the risk of the infection spreading. 1632
