SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Police sought public help Tuesday to identify a pair of suspects who robbed two San Diego State University Students at gunpoint just blocks from campus.The students were walking about 1:35 a.m. Monday at Campanile Drive and Dorothy Drive when two men approached and demanded their belongings, according to the SDSU Police Department. One of the suspects was armed with a handgun.The victims complied with the demands and were not injured, according to police, who said the suspects fled in a white, four-door car heading north on Campanile Drive toward Montezuma Road.Both suspects were described as roughly 170-pound black men, one about 5- foot-7 and the other about 5-foot-10. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego County Treasurer-Tax Collector Dan McAllister announced his office is accepting penalty cancellation requests for homeowners and small business owners who were impacted by COVID-19 and missed the Dec. 10 property tax deadline.Property taxes unpaid after Dec. 10 incurred a 10% penalty. To qualify for penalty cancellation, the property must either be residential and occupied by the homeowner or owned and operated by a taxpayer that qualifies as a small business."COVID-19 has affected many in San Diego -- especially our small businesses, so we want to do what we can to help those who did not have the funds to pay their taxes on time," McAllister said. "We want to be as lenient as we can and show compassion for those who need it."To complete a penalty cancellation request, a taxpayer must:-- complete the request form, print it and sign it-- include copies of printed evidence proving how the taxpayer was impacted by the coronavirus pandemic and unable to pay the property taxes by the delinquent date-- include a check for the base amount of the property taxes owed. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The San Diego Convention Center announced its planned road closure windows Wednesday for Comic-Con 2019, scheduled for July 17- 21.Harbor Drive will be closed to all traffic between First Avenue and Park Boulevard from 3-10 p.m. July 17, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. July 18-20 and 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. July 21. The closure will affect all non-foot traffic, according to the convention center, including cars, bikes, skateboards and dockless bikes and scooters.Comic-Con attendees will also need a valid convention badge to access the convention center, its front drive and adjacent terraces and sidewalks. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego Padres outfielder Tommy Pham has sued a Midway District strip club where he was stabbed last month.Pham, 32, was stabbed around 10:30 p.m. Oct. 11 outside Pacers Showgirls International by an unknown person or persons who took part in a fight that broke out in the club's parking lot.According to the lawsuit filed Tuesday in San Diego Superior Court, the fight outside Pacers left Pham "trapped" inside the club.The suit alleges the club's private security "escalated the risk" to Pham "by participating in the fight and antagonizing" the fight participants.The suit also alleges club employees did not contact law enforcement "or take any reasonable measures to mitigate" the dangers. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt will change its home port from San Diego to Bremerton, Washington, ahead of scheduled maintenance slated for next summer, the Navy announced Wednesday.The ship, which is currently deployed in the Western Pacific, will enter Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for scheduled maintenance known as docking planned incremental availability, or DPIA.Lt. Travis Callaghan said the maintenance required to maintain the Nimitz-class carrier's service life is more involved than what can be done pier- side in San Diego. DPIA involves putting the ship in drydock and will require facilities, equipment and personnel available in Bremerton, Callaghan said.The carrier recently resumed its scheduled deployment in the Indo- Pacific after spending months docked in Guam due to the widespread COVID-19 outbreak aboard the ship.The ship originally departed San Diego on Jan. 17 for a deployment, but was diverted to Guam on March 27 when the outbreak took hold, ultimately infecting more than 1,100 sailors, and killing one, Chief Aviation Ordnanceman Charles Thacker, 41.Navy officials said the carrier now operates with a new COVID-19 standard operating procedure, which modifies how crew members move through the ship, expands meal hours and establishes new social distancing procedures. 1337
