Millions of stimulus checks have gone out, but there are people still wondering where their checks are. Some might have thrown them out by mistake, but a local woman tells us she’s been getting the runaround about her check after complaining to the post office. Here’s how you can rebound from possible lost or stolen stimulus money.“I’m very hurt. I feel very let down,” said Racquel Hill from Warrensville Heights. She has no idea where her stimulus check is. “It’s something that I could still use. My children could use. And that I am in need of, she told us.She’s a single mother of two baby girls.“From February basically up to now, I’ve been without.”Hill showed us the IRS website reported her check was mailed on April 24. However, she also has a different address now. She had been living in Mayfield Heights.“Every time I contact (a representative of the Mayfield Heights Post Office), she tells me a different story,” said Hill. “She tells me, ‘Oh, we never received it. Then, she tells me it’s been forwarded back to the IRS. Then, she tells me it’s been forwarded to Warrensville Heights Post Office.”A spokesperson for the post office would not confirm if the overall USPS has received any similar complaints here or around the country.“Then where is it? Is someone stealing the check? Did someone mishandle the check?” questioned Hill. “I want to know what happened to the check and how many other people this has happened to.”“I know sometimes people aren’t really sure…what that check is,” said Scott Balfour. He investigates possible mail fraud through the USPS Office of Inspector General in Cleveland. He told us his office has had less than a handful of complaints about possible lost or stolen checks. “As an investigator what we are able to do is make contact with an investigator from the Treasury Department,” explained Special Agent Balfour. “They will let us know if that particular check has been cashed by someone it wasn’t intended for.”Hill told us Balfour is looking into her stimulus check problems. Meanwhile, The IRS within the last week or so sent out a warning about COVID-19 and stimulus check fraud. If you find that you haven’t gotten your check or debit card and you think it’s been stolen, you can file a claim at Tips.TIGTA.Gov.“Several different federal agencies are involved in this effort to monitor the mailing of those to make sure those checks get into the hands of people who deserve them,” said Balfour.He also said you can contact his office through USPSOIG.GOV or call 888-USPS-OIG.Hill said she is happy her case is getting attention but feels others might not be. “I feel sorry for me but I also feel sorry for other families, as well, who may be enduring this type of pain,” she told us.Keep in mind that the IRS still hasn’t gotten all of the checks out in the mail just yet, and there are many other reasons including filing status in the past two years that could impact how soon you see stimulus money.WEWS' Jonathan Walsh was first to report this story. 3023

More than two months after Bed Bath & Beyond announced they were closing about 200 stores in the next few years, they are sharing the first 60 or so that will close by the end of the year.In July, when they made the announcement, Bed Bath & Beyond said they had to close about 90 percent of their stores during the coronavirus pandemic and in-store sales were down 77 percent.Before the pandemic, the company closed 40 stores in the first part of 2020.The additional 200 represent about 20 percent of Bed Bath & beyond stores. MURRIETA, Calif. (KGTV) - A U.S. Marine and a young woman were arrested Wednesday for the death of a man whose remains were found in Joshua Tree National Park.Curtis Krueger, 30, was taken into custody near Twentynine Palms Air-Ground Combat Center. Ashlie Stapp, 27, was arrested on the campus of Copper Mountain Community College in Joshua Tree, KABC reported.Investigators said Krueger and Stapp killed 54-year-old Henry Stange. His partially covered remains were found June 2 in a shallow grave in Joshua Tree National Park.The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department determined the crime scene was located in the city of Murrieta.Police did not immediately announce a connection between the two suspects or a motive for Stange’s death.Krueger and Stapp are charged with Homicide and Conspiracy. 810

Months of isolation and social distancing have taken their toll on Americans. But for the 30 million struggling with eating disorders, that stress can make them especially vulnerable.Mental health experts say as social distancing enters its fourth month, they’ve seen a dramatic spike in people seeking assistance. The good news, they say, is that there is help.Growing up in a conservative south Texas family, Eric Dorsa says not fitting a stereotypical masculine identity drove him into a dangerous relationship with food.“I developed an eating disorder as a way to cope with emotions and thoughts and feelings about myself that I couldn't express as a child,” said Dorsa.After 13 years of recovery, it’s still a battle.“It was the hardest thing I've ever done,” said Dorsa. “It is like a giant car crash going off in the middle of your life and you have no choice but to deal with it.”Dr. Ellen Astrachan-Fletcher is the clinical director of the Eating Recovery Center in Chicago. The international center treats eating disorders like anorexia, bulimia and binge-eating.“Does this pandemic and the isolation contribute to worsening difficulties with eating disorders? Absolutely 100%,” said Astrachan-Fletcher.She says for millions suffering from eating disorders, the months-long lockdowns and isolation from support systems is amplifying the problem.With grocery stores not stocking certain products, experts say that could be a trigger for people who need that normal routine and those specific food brands to help keep them on their recovery track.“The reality is we have to be flexible in this time because due to the pandemic things are not what we expect,” said Astrachan-Fletcher.People turning to food for comfort and social media messaging about weight gain are not helping.“When someone starts engaging with an eating disorder, they tend to isolate and that feeds the eating disorder,” said Astrachan-Fletcher. “So, the isolation and pushing loved ones away is one way the eating disorder grows.”The National Eating Disorders Association says it has seen a 74% increase in calls to their help line during the pandemic as compared to the same time last year.“Even though sometimes it feels like we're alone, you don't have to be and there are lots of people here to be there with you,” said Astrachan-Fletcher.Astrachan-Fletcher says it’s important to seek professional help, take a friend or family member with you when you go to the grocery store, and set up virtual online dates for meal-times or snack breaks.Dorsa says it’s important to find your helpers.“You're not alone and you're enough just as you are,” he said. “You don't have to show up any other way other than with what you have. Multiple media outlets are reporting that an alleged carjacking suspect opened fire before exiting a police wagon in Chicago, injuring three police officers. The suspect was also injured.The Chicago Sun-Times said the alleged offender was being transported in a police wagon and began firing on officers when the doors of the wagon were opened.ABC7 reports one officer was shot in the neck, a second officer was shot in the hip, and the third officer was struck in his protective vest and was uninjured.Two officers complained of chest pain during the shooting and were taken to the hospital, ABC7 reported.The suspect was injured and was taken to an area hospital, NBC Chicago reported.NBC Chicago reported the suspect was being arrested for alleged carjacking before the shooting occurred. 799
