SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Health officials in San Diego County reported 269 new COVID-19 infections Sunday, bringing the total to 54,583 since mid-February, and two new deaths, bringing the overall fatality total to 870.The two deaths were men reported to have died earlier this month. They ranged in age from late 60s to early 70s, according to the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency.Of the 10,819 new tests reported, 2% returned positive. He added the county will hold meetings with residents to see what kind of amenities residents would like included. He said some early requests include playgrounds and a skate park.Fallbrook currently has three local parks, providing 1 acre per 1,000 residents. That number doesn't meet the General Plan goal of 10 acres of local parkland for that same number of people.Money for the park purchase will come from a community development block grant, according to county documents. Detectives soon identified Vaden as Michael's suspected killer, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office.Vaden is a transient with gang ties and prior arrests for vehicle theft, resisting officers, carjacking, assault, battery, robbery, burglary, lewd acts with a child and failure to register as a sex offender, officials said. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - City officials and homeless advocates announced an expansion Tuesday of the city's program to establish safe parking lots for residents who live out of their cars or recreational vehicles.Mayor Kevin Faulconer, Councilman Scott Sherman and representatives of Jewish Family Service of San Diego jointly announced that the city will make a parking lot in Mission Valley near SDCCU Stadium available to vehicles in the next 45 days.The lot, which will also have supportive services for homeless residents, like job training, financial education and housing assistance, has space for up to 80 RVs or 200 regular cars and trucks.Jewish Family Service oversees the two existing parking lots and will do the same at the third, which is located near the intersection of Friars Road and Mission Village Drive.RELATED: San Diego program to provide safe parking for homeless living in vehicles"Often when someone becomes homeless for the first time, they end up living in their car and don't know where else to turn," Faulconer said. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - County environmental health officials issued a water contact closure Friday along the Tijuana Slough National Wildlife Refuge and Border Field State Park due to sewage-contaminated water. The San Diego County Department of Environmental Health issued the closure Friday afternoon following rainfall this week that caused contaminated water in the Tijuana River to flow into U.S. waterways. County officials regularly issue beach closures after rainstorms due to contaminated flows from the river. The closure extends along the shoreline from the U.S.-Mexico border to the southern end of Seacoast Drive. County officials have placed water contact closure signs to alert beachgoers of the water's contamination. The signs will remain in place until water sampling meets state health standards.
