SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A mom shopping with her one-year-son leapt into action when she found a car burglar inside her SUV in University City.On Wednesday morning at the Vons on Governor Drive, Gloria spent about 15 minutes shopping inside. Her son was sitting in the cart. As soon as she pushed the loaded cart out of the store, her eyes zeroed in on her SUV, parked close to the store."I was kind of in disbelief. Someone was in the car and the passenger door was wide open," said Gloria.Gloria saw a man rummaging through her center console and started screaming. She pushed every button on her key fob."The panic alarm actually went off. Scared the living daylights out of him, and he took off running," said Gloria. Moments after, she found her phone in her purse and starting recording. Surveillance video shows her take off in his direction. Holding tightly to her son, she continued to scream. Still pushing the cart, she followed him. "Definitely adrenaline and pure anger," said Gloria.Gloria has been a victim of three car burglaries in the past five years."I'm going to get you this time. You're not going to do this to anybody else," Gloria kept thinking. Less than a minute later, she followed him across the parking lot to a U-Haul truck before he drove off. She got a photo of him and the license plate. Possibly realizing Gloria got video, the guy ditched the truck, which was recovered hours later. She says police told her it was loaded with stuff: some of her belongings and other items, likely stolen. Police say the license plate led them to a local address, but the man wasn't there. Gloria says a few miscellaneous items were returned to her. A child's wallet remains missing.Anyone with information on the case is asked to call San Diego Police at 619-531-2000. 1790

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A man was arrested Thursday after attacking police with railroad spikes and rocks in a Barrio Logan train yard, police said.San Diego Police were called to the BNSF Railway Yard along Harbor Drive around 10 a.m. to reports of a trespasser. Officers arrived to find a man who had armed himself with a stick and railroad spikes, police said. The suspect reportedly threw the spike at officers and fled under a rail car, refusing to come out. The man also threatened to kill a police K-9 on scene, SDPD added.Police created "decision making space" and tried to talk the suspect into surrendering. After those efforts failed, officers used shotgun beanbags, pepper balls, and eventually a K-9 officer to get the man to surrender. He was pulled from under the railcar and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of injuries, including dog bites, police confirmed. No officers were injured during the event. 927

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A new food hall and beer garden is planned for National City with hopes of reinvigorating the neighborhood.Market on 8th is currently under construction at 41 E 8th Street. The 9,000-square-foot location will include at least eight eateries and retail locations, according to founding partner Joel Tubao."My family has been in the community here since 1968," Tubao said, who owns other properties in the area. "There’s a huge need for it."RELATED: Hot chicken to bao: Six new flavors move into Liberty Public MarketTubao confirmed a number of eateries are already planned for the food hall: Moe Coffee: Cafe and roaster that brews up a variety of coffee drinks using micro-roasted, organic beans. Next door, neighborhood favorite Niederfrank's Ice Cream will continue to scoop up soft serve without interruption, Tubao added.RELATED: Craft beer scene brewing in Chula Vista"There’s a lot of people living in the South Bay that have to go somewhere else for food and craft beer," Tubao said. "We want walkability in National City. We want to add to what’s currently and hopefully a stepping stone for more of that."The food hall is tentatively scheduled to debut in the first quarter of 2020, according to Tubao."We believe it’s going to transform the area," Tubao added. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A longtime North Park business has been forced to shutter its doors due to the economic toll of the pandemic.A&B Sporting Goods has sat on University Ave. for 79 years. The business told ABC 10News that it thrives off of local youth sports, which have largely been canceled this year due to the coronavirus.Owner Greg Schloss, whose father and grandfather worked at the store before him, said he hadn't planned on closing shop, but could not keep the business going any longer."I've worked here 40 years. The neighborhood is driven by a lot of kids playing ball in this neigborhood. And at the moment, for the past sever, eight, nine months, there's no kids playing any organized sports," Schloss said.RELATED: Rebound: Find resources for small businesses amid the pandemicAs for himself, Schloss said he's not ready to retire and he's hoping some of his longtime customers may be able to help him find a new job.In a Facebook post, the shop told fans they will close as of the end of the year and thanked the community for its support over nearly eight decades."It is with heavy heart that we announce that A&B Sporting Goods is closing shop as of the end of the year. We cannot thank our friends enough for your ongoing support. We were so fortunate to be part of the North Park community for so many decades. There was never anything better than your kids coming in every year to pick up their North Park Little League apparel and equipment," a Facebook post on the store's site read. Shoppers are also encouraged to stop in and shop over the next month. The store's social post added that everything will be sold and reasonable offers for merchandise will be accepted. 1707
