Chuck Schumer of New York, said Republicans are “so out of touch.” He predicted Republicans and the White House “may yet be forced to come back to the table because COVID is the major issue that’s facing the American people.”The stalemate has left McConnell and Republicans to say that they support a short-term spending measure, called a continuing resolution, or CR, that would avert a government shutdown at month’s end and set up a post-election lame-duck session to deal with any unfinished Capitol Hill legislation, which could include coronavirus relief.“My guess would be that if we leave in September with a CR, we will not come back to do anything before the election,” said Sen. A federal appeals court handed the Trump administration a partial victory Monday, granting its emergency request to allow parts of its latest travel ban to go into effect while the appeal is pending.A three-judge panel -- all appointed by former President Bill Clinton -- on the 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals decided Monday to keep the lower court's order in place, freezing the ban, for foreign nationals who have a "close familial relationship" with a person in the United States, but granted the Trump administration's request to allow it to go into effect for everyone else.The 9th Circuit panel is set to hear oral arguments on the case on December 6.President Donald Trump signed an executive order in January banning foreign nationals from specific Muslim-majority countries from traveling to the United States, but the restrictions have been tied up in the legal system and have since been revised multiple times.In October, a federal judge in Hawaii blocked the third iteration of the travel ban one day before it was scheduled to take effect.At the time, Judge Derrick Watson said it "plainly discriminates based on nationality."The ban targeted foreign nationals from eight countries -- Chad, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Syria, Venezuela, Somalia and Yemen -- with varying levels of restrictions.The second version of the travel ban, issued in March, had barred residents of six Muslim-majority countries -- Iran, Syria, Libya, Sudan, Somalia and Yemen. 1487

A California farm that was tied to an outbreak of E.coli on romaine lettuce is now recalling cauliflower and other lettuce grown at the farm.Adam Bros. Farming Inc. sent out a news release Thursday saying red leaf lettuce, green leaf lettuce and cauliflower harvested November 27-30 has been recalled because it may also be contaminated with E.coli.The farm initiated the voluntary recall with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Thursday. The cauliflower was distributed in 10 states: Arizona, California, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania. It was also distributed in Tijuana, Mexico and Canada. The additional lettuce recalled was sent to states mostly on the western side of the country. Red and green leaf lettuce was distributed in California, Colorado, Oregon, Texas, Pennsylvania, Washington and Canada. A Gilbert, Arizona father is turning anxiety into action in the hope of preventing child drownings.Lee Kambar has two daughters, ages 1 and 10, and admits he gets nervous when they're around water."It's a nervous feeling I can never shake off," Kambar said. A father and mother in Las Vegas were arrested on Feb. 28 on charges including murder, child abuse/neglect, and animal cruelty. Police were called to the couple's apartment on Feb. 25 after getting reports about possible abuse or neglect. Medical workers told police dispatchers that they were transporting a 5-month-old child to the hospital and the baby appeared to be malnourished.The baby died after being taken to the hospital.Detectives from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department investigated the case, and three days later arrested 29-year-old Anthony Oceja and 24-year-old Loreana Martinez. Oceja and Martinez also had two other children who were taken into protective custody and are being evaluated by medical personnel for potential health concerns. There were also three dogs in the residence that appeared to be severely malnourished. They were turned over to Clark County Animal Control.
