A television network touted by President Donald Trump due to its friendly coverage of his administration has been temporarily suspended by YouTube after one of its videos promoted a fake cure for COVID-19.One America News Network is prohibited from posting new videos to YouTube for a week and will be unable to make money off existing material during that time, Axios reports.YouTube says OANN suffered a "first strike" penalty for violating the company's COVID-19 misinformation policy. TechCrunch reports the video promoting a guaranteed COVID-19 cure has been removed from YouTube.If OANN suffers a third strike within 90 days of the first, the network will lose its YouTube channel permanently.Since Election Day, Trump has prompted both OANN and Newsmax TV — both of which have continuously questioned the results of the election and peddled misinformation about voter fraud. A Palm Beach Gardens (Fla.) High School teacher has been removed from the classroom, pending an investigation into an interaction with a Haitian student, in which the teacher refers to the country as “some third-world island country."A video of the incident was posted on the Facebook page of the student’s family and has received tens of thousands of views.In the video, you can hear the teacher talk to the student“It’s called a door, let me show you how it works,” the teacher said. “I don’t know how it works where you’re from, down in some third-world island country, where they don’t got them. Let me show you what it’s like in America.”“That was a racist comment,” said Haitian activist and radio host James Leger. “It’s hurtful and I’m hurt and the community is hurting.”Leger said his phones were ringing non-stop Thursday morning when he addressed the topic on his radio show.The family of the student said they first went to the school to address the issue but when no action was taken, they posted the video online.On Thursday morning, Palm Beach Gardens High parents got this call from the principal:“Hello Parents, this is Principal Larry Clawson. Many of you may have heard media reports of a video circulating of one of our teachers verbally interacting with a student in a potentially inappropriate manner. This call is to assure you I am aware of the video and the matter is being addressed by professional standards at this time. Because this is an open inquiry, I am not at liberty to share any additional details with you, but I wanted to assure you we have processes in place to review incidents like this.”Some former and current students are defending the teacher.“Great coach, great man, great father figure,” one person wrote.Others are saying the teacher was simply joking.“That man jokes all day. I still have a video of him from 2011 rapping,” another person wrote.But for some in the Haitian community, the incident was no laughing matter.“I couldn’t take that as a joke,” Leger said. “Even if it was a joke that’s gone too far.”Leger is organizing a rally outside of the school Friday morning at 7 a.m. He said they’re not asking for the teacher to be fired. “We just want an apology,” Leger said. “I don’t want this to keep happening to other students.” 2313

A Southwest Airlines plane flying from Fort Lauderdale to BWI was hit by a pickup truck after landing at the airport.  It happened early Monday morning.   Passengers said the white truck crashed into the side of the plane on the runway.  An ambulance was at the scene, but according to passengers, no one was injured.  Passengers were not allowed to leave while crews continued their investigation.  Southwest Airlines has not released any comment but the company did respond to a tweet from one of the passengers on the plane.  A passenger named Michael Simon posted this tweet: "So our southwest flight just got into an accident with a pickup truck. Guess that makes me an airplane crash survivor."  874

A recent study published Tuesday in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine found that most Americans are still susceptible to COVID-19.According to the study, researchers studied the blood samples of 177,919 Americans across the nation, D.C., and Puerto Rico between July 27 and Sept. 24. They found that fewer than 10% of the people had detectable COVID antibodies."In this U.S. nationwide seroprevalence cross-sectional study, we found that as of September 2020, most persons in the US did not have detectable SARS-CoV-2 antibodies, and seroprevalence estimates varied widely by jurisdiction," the authors concluded. "Continued biweekly testing of sera collected by commercial laboratories will allow for assessment of the changing epidemiology of SARS-CoV-2 in the U.S. in the coming months. Our results reinforce the need for continued public health preventive measures, including the use of face masks and social distancing, to limit the spread of SARS-CoV-2 in the U.S."Researchers noted that Seroprevalence varied between metropolitan/nonmetropolitan areas and across regions, with estimates as high as 23% in the northeast, 13% in the south, and forecasts in the midwest and west were less than 10%.The researchers also found that Seroprevalence was often lowest in older age groups. 1295

A Michigan hospital is facing a federal lawsuit alleging racial discrimination by a nurse who says she was told not to care for a patient because of her race.Teoka Williams works as a Registered Nurse at Beaumont Health's campus in Dearborn. Her lawsuit alleges that while working on the unit on Oct. 2, she overheard a patient say she did not want a "Black B****" taking care of her.Williams claims she told the clinical manager about the comment and that clinical manager then talked to the patient, who told her she did not want Williams to care for her.The clinical manager then allegedly told the patient that she would "move" Williams and that the patient would not have to see her anymore.The clinical manager then told Williams she was not to go into the patient's room and if either patient in the room needed care a white nurse named Olivia was required to go into the room, according to the suitThe lawsuit alleges that there were times when the patients in the room needed care and Williams was forbidden from doing so because of her race.Williams' lawsuit contends that she told Human Resources about the incident and was told that patient requests are honored all the time and that the next time it happened, she would be taken off the assignment altogether.The lawsuit contends Beaumont violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Michigan's Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act.
