SIEM REAP, Cambodia, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Friday lauded the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC), saying it is a new type of sub-regional cooperation mechanism.
"China encourages domestic enterprises and financial institutions to actively engage in infrastructure building and mining in Sierra Leone for mutually beneficial cooperation," Xi said.
The team will take on a number of tasks, including building makeshift airports, roads, bridges and defense works.
"We have incredible working relationship on that. And I think it would portend well for leadership for the future," said Catherine Novelli, the Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy and the Environment at the U.S. Department of State.
Trade volume between China and CEE countries reached 56.2 billion U.S. dollars in 2015, up 28 percent over 2010. Chinese investment in the 16 CEE countries exceeded 5 billion dollars, while CEE has invested more than 1.2 billion dollars in China.
