(AP) — A father and his two children helped rescue a man who was stranded in the Santa Fe National Forest for 14 days.John Utsey launched an unexpected two-day rescue mission Saturday after hearing a call for help while hiking with his kids toward the Santa Fe Baldy.Utsey gave the man food and water before hiking back to the trailhead to call 911.Santa Fe firefighters arrived within the hour, but called off the unsuccessful search after eight hours.Utsey then returned to the spot Sunday, called 911 again and led crews to the man.Once the man was located, the Santa Fe Fire Department says its crews built a fire to bring up his body temperature, which was dangerously low. They also fed and gave him water.The department says the man suffered from chronic back pain, injured his back while hiking and couldn’t stand or walk.The man told first responders that his gear stolen and ended up getting lost and disoriented.The man is now recovering at a local hospital. 992

(KGTV) - The City of San Marcos is turning to crowdfunding to make up for budget shortfalls in their 4th of July plans.For the second straight year, the city set up a GoFundMe website to raise money for fireworks. This year's goal is ,500.City officials tell 10News the city already pitches in ,000 to pay for entertainment, security, permits and other costs associated with their annual Fireworks Extravaganza.They also say traditional donations have brought in about ,000 for fireworks. But the fireworks show costs K."I can tell you, it's the best show in North County," says San Marcos Recreations Programs Manager Andrea Gonzalez. "It's a real show-stopper."Last year's GoFundMe brought in more than ,000. Gonzalez says the city still solicits donations from past donors through the mail and phone calls, but those have been down over the last few years. They decided to get creative and make it easier for people to chip in."It's a lot easier to get on your Facebook page and contribute to a GoFundMe with one click than having to write a check," says Gonzalez.Other 4th of July celebrations have done the same thing. The Lake Murray fireworks show raised ,000 last year through GoFundMe. This year they're up to ,000 in donations.Meanwhile, La Jolla cancelled their show in 2018 because of a lack of funding.Gonzalez says this year's fireworks party will go on as planned, no matter how much money they can raise. SAN YSIDRO, Calif. (KGTV) — A man convicted of murder in Honduras was arrested after border agents say he was caught crossing the border with members of a migrant caravan in Tijuana.Miguel Angel Ramirez, 46, was arrested on Nov. 24 around 11 p.m. after he was caught entering the country illegally about a mile east of the San Ysidro Port of Entry, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Two other men traveling with Ramirez were also arrested, one of who had previously been deported, according to CBP.Border agents say Ramirez admitted to being convicted of murder and was released a few months ago. The Honduran Consulate in Los Angeles confirmed he had served 10 years in a Honduras prison for homicide and another 3 years for robbery.
