The holiday season is upon us and that means Black Friday is less than a month away. While many retail experts are saying Black Friday is dead, we found that might not ring true for most shoppers.Janice Lieberman is a retail expert for Deal News and she says, “even though you will start seeing deals now they will get even lower.”Retailers are excited to get you in the holiday spirit and have you shopping in stores, not online.  Lieberman says, “they want those door busters. They want the fever. They want you to enjoy shopping, seeing other people and touching merchandise which is becoming so foreign.”However, this year a number of retailers including Home Depot, Ikea and Office Depot will remain closed on Nov. 24 and REI is even closing its stores on Black Friday.But, for the thousands of stores that will be keeping their doors open, Lieberman says, we need to get prepared before the big shopping day.“You need to get onto social media. You need to sign up with all the stores you enjoy shopping at because they will give their loyal members added deals or select deals.”If you are not about social media or even couponing, try signing up online at places like Deal News. You click on the items you want and they will send you an alert letting you know who has the lowest price.Lieberman says, “I really think if you can hold off now I know it’s not so easy but if you can hold off to Thanksgiving weekend, the day before, the day after, even Cyber Monday that’s when you’re going to see the lowest prices.”Thanksgiving Day will have the best deals for any item. Black Friday is the day to shop for electronics, toys and clothing. Cyber Monday you’ll find the lowest prices on computers, kitchenware and shoes.If you really want to save big on Black Friday, Lieberman suggests you create a list of all the items you plan to buy. If not, expect to pay more by simply purchasing items that you didn’t need. 1955

The number of missing in Californian wildfires has soared to 631, as authorities added hundreds of names to the lists of the unaccounted for Thursday, in what has become the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in the state's history.Butte County Sheriff and Coroner Kory Honea said Thursday evening the death toll from the Camp Fire in northern California had grown to 63 people. Seven sets of remains were discovered Thursday, he said.At least two other people have been killed in another, separate wildfire in Southern California, putting the state's death toll at 65 since the two blazes began last week.On Friday hundreds of rescue personnel -- deputies, National Guard troops and coroners -- dressed in white overalls sifted through smoldering rubble and checked mangled cars, searching for human remains.Honea said the number of names on the missing list soared after investigators added information from callers who rang the dispatch center on the day the fire erupted and reported people who were missing in the chaos.Some of the names on the Butte County list appear more than once and it's not clear if any are duplicates. Officials have said it's hard to determine the number of missing, because some people may have evacuated and can't be reached with cell phone service unreliable due to the fire."There are a lot of people displaced and we're finding a lot of people don't know we are looking for them," Honea said.The fire turned the hard-hit town of Paradise into ash and debris and also devastated the nearby communities of Magalia and Concow. Honea said three sets of remains were found Thursday in Paradise, three in Magalia and one in Concow.Honea has invited relatives of the missing to visit the sheriff's office in Oroville so authorities can collect DNA samples from them. The DNA will be used to help identify fire victims, Honea said."This is a daunting task. We feel really bad for the people who don't know what happened to their loved ones and our hearts go out to them," Butte County Sheriff's Investigations Sgt. Steve Collins said. The pandemic has more people wanting to learn more about their medical history. Several services can already track relatives and piece together a family tree. But now, you can do the same for your health.In her radio show and podcast "Passport Mommy," Michelle Jerson talks about all things motherhood."We cover everything that parents are going through," Jerson said.Jerson said she chose that name because she says motherhood is a journey. These days though, Jerson is on her own personal journey — wanting to know everything she can about her family health."As a new mom, I want to pass that information on to my children," Jerson said. "I want them to be educated. I want them to have as much knowledge as they can have so they can make informed decisions. So, when they go to the doctor's office, and they ask those first few questions about family history, they're not saying, 'I'm not sure.'"But she says it's even more complicated than that."My mom was adopted, and she never found out who her biological father was and just recently found out who her biological mother is," Jerson said. "She did get some limited information health-wise, but for me, it's very important for us to find out as much as we can about our family history and our health."Jerson heard about a new test from Ancestry — one of the leading genealogy services — that provides a DNA analysis of a user's health. Jerson sent off the saliva sample test and is awaiting results.Dr. Sarah South, the Vice President of Ancestry Health, says scientists look at DNA to see if a person is more at risk for common inherited conditions — things like cancer, heart disease, high cholesterol or blood disorders."This isn't just information about something that might happen. This is information about what might happen but also how to prevent it," South said.There's still a lot to learn about this kind of science, but South says finding out health information can be both empowering and reassuring — especially now.South says that during the pandemic, they've been getting a lot more interest."Certainly, this pandemic has just heightened people's awareness of taking preventive action," South said. "So, it's absolutely top of mind for a lot of individuals who now recognize that taking care of preventative and taking care of their health, being in that driver seat. This is the right time for it, and the technology is clear."South says that regardless of what a person may or not learn from the test that it's still important to get regular health screenings. After receiving results, people should discuss what they discover with their doctors and make sure they follow up with preventative care — and remember that not every disease is linked to genetics.South also says that moms are usually the health care managers within families, as they tend to have the most interest. With that in mind, Jerson says she's taking the time to learn more about her own lineage."It's really empowering to know that we have a way to do this and that, yes, there are still states that have the adoption records locked and sealed so you can't even get access to them," Jerson said. "So, any way that you can do (research) on your own, I think is great."Whatever her test results yield, it's just the beginning of a larger mystery that could hopefully open a lot of doors. 3338

The Macy's at Herald Square boarded up its windows in anticipation of protests from the result of the presidential election. PIX11 News cameras saw workers boarding up along the famous storefront Friday evening.A spokesperson for Macy’s told PIX11 News on Saturday the windows were initially scheduled to be covered up next week."Our windows at Macy’s Herald Square were previously scheduled to be dark next week in set-up for our annual holiday displays. Out of an abundance of caution, we are implementing additional security measures at several of our stores,” the spokesperson said.A variety of Fifth Avenue stores also were boarded up on Friday afternoon, some as early as 9 a.m. Many Manhattan stores, including Macy's at Herald Square, were looted in the unrest following protests against the police custody death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.PIX11 News' James Ford also contributed to this story. 915
