KENOSHA, Wis. – From famous athletes to everyday Americans, people across the country are making their voice heard regarding police brutality.“I’m hurt inside, honestly, and there’s only so much a person can take until that hurt turns into anger,” said Alicia Zamora.Art is how Zamora lets out her pain. In Kenosha, Wisconsin, she’s stenciled in Jacob Blake’s name into a mural on a boarded-up convenience store that she and her sister worked on for three days.“I think a lot of people struggle with trying to do something that makes a big impact on the situation that’s going on. For us, that’s painting and drawing for other people it’s protesting,” said Zamora. The situation she’s talking about is the shooting of Jacob Blake by a Kenosha police officer. While Zamora painted, some big-time basketball stars have been protesting. After Blake was shot by a police officer, Zamora turned to art.Others, including some big-time basketball stars, decided to protest.“Over the last few days in our home state of Wisconsin, we saw the horrific video of Jacob Blake shot in the back seven times in Kenosha. Despite the overwhelming plea for change, there has been no action. So, our focus today cannot be on basketball,” said Sterling Brown, a player on the Milwaukee Bucks.Last week, the Bucks refused to take the court for a playoff game. That started a domino effect that canceled all NBA games for three days, sparked protests in the WNBA, Major League Baseball, the National Hockey League, and Major League Soccer.“That it came at the very last second when all the television cameras were trained on the floor expecting there to be a game, made it that much more powerful,” said Kevin Blackistone a professor of journalism at the University of Maryland and a columnist for the Washington Post.He says athletes have a platform that extends beyond the court and they’re going to use it to speak to Americans. They're using that platform to reach fans at a critical time in history.“They can’t turn away from sports, what happens in sports. And in this case, when they tried to turn away from it, it wound up leading local news,” said Blackistone. At least in Kenosha, many residents are paying attention to what athletes have to say, although their reactions differ.“I think it’s like really telling when you’re telling some Black people to shut up and play a game. You know, where you’re like, ‘Shut up, don’t talk about politics, don’t have an opinion, just shut up and play the game. We pay you enough where you don’t have to have an opinion about all this,’” said a protester named Kevin who wouldn't give us his last name.“I’m disappointed in it. I’ve just become less and less of a fan,” said Alan Eries, who was at the protest supporting President Donald Trump.“They’re people of color, they’ve grown up in these communities. A Milwaukee Bucks player got hassled by the police a while back,” said Kevin. When players did finally return to the fields, the ice and the hardwood, many kept their message strong.“Imagine losing a father, losing their life, while they have kids. Imagine a father, son, brother getting shot seven times in front of their kids. Imagine that. We’ve been fighting this fight for a long time and we’re tired of being tired,” said Jamal Murray, a player on the Denver Nuggets.Tired of how long Black Americans have been asking for fairness and justice.“What is it? Friday marked the 57th year since Dr. King walked down the same bridge in Washington, gave his speech. So, we’re still here, 57 years later on the same problem, which is insane,” said Zamora. For Zamora and those in Kenosha fighting for justice, the words of athletes might not be the most pressing issue, but the voices of professional athletes do matter, just like the voices on the ground.“Anything that we can do to show we are supportive, that’s pretty much what we’re doing. It takes something very small to make a big impact on a community,” said Zamora.Like a mural, outside of a boarded-up convenience store. 4015

James Comey, the former FBI director, said he laughed when President Donald Trump suggested he might have to jail journalists to send a message about unauthorized leaks, a memo Comey wrote which was obtained by CNN and other news outlets on Thursday revealed. In a memo dated February 14, 2017, Comey said that Trump complained during an Oval Office meeting about classified information being leaked to the media. Comey wrote that he said he "agreed very much" that it was "terrible" such information was being leaked, and added that he was "eager to find leakers and would like to nail one to the door as a message."Related: Read the James Comey memosToward the end of their meeting, Comey said that Trump "wrapped up" the conversation "by returning to the issue of finding leakers.""I said something about the value of putting a head on a pike as a message," Comey wrote in the memo. "[Trump] replied by saying it may involve putting reporters in jail. 'They spend a couple days in jail, make a new friend, and they are ready to talk.'"Comey continued, "I laughed as I walked to the door Reince Priebus had opened."The memos kept by Comey documenting his interactions with Trump are rigorous in detail and portray the president in deeply unflattering terms. Much of the information contained in the memos was already public prior to Thursday's release, but the documents are nevertheless striking to read in their entirety.Neither a representative for Comey nor the White House immediately responded to a request for comment Friday morning. It's unclear what the president meant when he said that after jailed journalists "make a new friend" they'd be willing to talk.Since announcing his bid for the presidency in the summer of 2015, Trump has made his disdain for journalists known, regularly attacking reporters and news organizations that publish stories critical of him. The president has also been engrossed with learning the identities of those who have leaked to the press, publicly calling on the Department of Justice to "take action" against individuals who have done so. 2090

JUPITER, Fla. - Misdemeanor prostitution charges were dropped Thursday against New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft and 24 other defendants linked to a spa sex sting in Jupiter. The charges stemmed from a police investigation at the Orchids of Asia Day Spa in Jupiter conducted in 2019.Jupiter police claimed Kraft visited the now-defunct spa twice in January 2019, including the morning of the AFC Championship game.Palm Beach County State Attorney Dave Aronberg held a virtual news conference regarding the case.RELATED: How detectives gathered evidence inside Orchids of Asia day spa | Woman accused of performing sex act on Kraft arrestedThe investigation led to the arrests of several men and women, including misdemeanor charges against Kraft.Aronberg said charges were dropped against all 25 defendants accused of misdemeanor charges of soliciting prostitution."It is not a lack of will that caused us to drop the charges in the spa cases," Aronberg said. There are still pending felony charges against the owner and manager of the spa. NEWS CONFERENCE: Palm Beach County State Attorney Dave Aronberg provides update on Orchids of Asia Day Spa case (14 minutes) Earlier this week, the Florida Attorney General's office announced that it won't appeal a court decision blocking video that allegedly showed Kraft paying for sex at the massage parlor.A Florida appeals court ruled in August that police violated Kraft's rights and others when they secretly video recorded them paying for massage parlor sex acts. The state attorney called the appellate court's decision "disappointing.""The Orchids of Asia Day Spa was a notorious brothel in a family shopping center, right next to a game room that attracted children," Aronberg said.Secret video recordings allegedly captured a woman at the spa performing a sex act on Kraft and him paying in cash, according to police."Without these videos, we cannot move forward with our prosecutions, and thus we are ethically compelled to drop the cases against all the defendants," Aronberg said. "Despite the setback today, our office will continue our work to make our community safer by holding accountable those who engage in criminal activity including sex crimes." WPTV The Orchids of Asia Spa in Jupiter was raided in February 2019. The state attorney said he disagreed with the ruling that threw out the video evidence for all 25 defendants. "The Jupiter Police Department did the right thing in pursuing the investigation," Aronberg said. "I stand behind the decision to file the cases."Aronberg said four other individuals, besides Kraft, were recorded and received legitimate non-sexual massages. Two of those four were women, and the court said that the police should have never recorded the women, and thus every other video must be discarded. The state attorney said they could not prove human trafficking without a reasonable doubt, but there was evidence of human trafficking "in the overall investigation." None of the defendants charged with soliciting prostitution were ever accused of human trafficking.Kraft's attorneys want the video destroyed.Jupiter police said Kraft made two visits to the spa in January 2019.The Associated Press contributed to this report. KEARNY, N.J. — An uninvited guest made its way into several New Jersey suburbs, creating quite a stir inside normally quiet areas.Police believe a 300-pound bear is roaming around communities and was most recently seen in North Arlington. It was likely the same bear that was spotted in Kearny. It's not clear how a black bear ended up in the middle of densely populated areas like Kearny — and Harrison, beforehand — but some New Jersey residents needed a second to get their bearings after spotting the furry animal."I haven't seen any here, this is the first time. Surprised me. Especially close to my house," said Ruben Martinez. He barely noticed that it had climbed up a tree in his own backyard around 1 p.m. Monday. That was until he heard some commotion outside."When I went outside, that's when I found out. I saw police in my driveway, that's how I found out. Plus, I see a lot of people outside," Martinez said.Harrison police said the bear was first spotted on Saturday at the local Walmart and by Red Bull Arena. Officers snapped a picture with their bare hands and posted it on social media, warning people to be on alert."We did get a call from the town of Kearny that there was a bear was in the neighborhood and police were looking for it,” said Herbert Ginbel, a local resident.Police asked residents to bear with them as they tried to capture the animal. They've requested an animal control unit and notified the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife."I just hope everything will work out all right, and as a deacon I pray that the bear will be ok, and it can be returned to the habitat that I belongs,” Ginbel said. It's estimated the bear weighs 300 pounds. Ironically today marked the beginning of bear hunting season in New Jersey, though the governor said 2020 would mark the end of bear hunting under his administration. This story originally reported by Cristian Benavides and Rebecca Solomon on pix11.com. 1941
