(KGTV) - A 10News viewer has a warning for pedestrians who cross a busy Del Mar intersection.There’s a warning for people walking across Camino Del Mar at 9th St., but no warning for drivers.Victoria Arthur says she was almost struck by a car twice while out for a walk.“The first time I wasn’t scared at all. You push the button, the white light comes on, and I’m crossing. I wasn’t even thinking anything about it until I was almost hit by the car,” Arthur said.The City told 10News it is illegal to drive through a crosswalk that contains pedestrians. Del Mar’s traffic engineer and traffic committee evaluate the situations and look for improvements in traffic signs, signals and controls, city officials said. 738

DETROIT — "They strictly thought their so-called white privilege was gonna work this time and it didn't," said Marc Peeples who was acquitted in a directed verdict in a case where three women, who are white, accused Peeples, who is black, of stalking them.The women repeatedly called Detroit Police on Peeples, an urban farmer, who said he wanted to grow a garden in his old neighborhood in the area of 8 Mile and John R on the city's east side. In the beginning, Peeples said one of the women donated soil to his project, but then he and his attorney say it became about power, race and false allegations."These women were clearly lying," said Peeples who was shocked when Detroit Police arrested him after prosecutors charged him with three misdemeanor counts of stalking.This was a case of "gardening while black" said defense attorney Robert Burton-Harris, who represented Peeples at trial.Harris said this is similar to other cases around the country where "you have people calling the police on, mostly,?African-Americans for doing very mundane things.""I wasn't doing anything but planting a seed to help my community grow," said Peeples. 36th District Court Judge E. DETROIT (AP) — Metal fragments from an exploding air bag inflator have killed the driver of an older model Volvo, touching off a U.S. recall of as many as 54,124 cars. The inflators in this case were made by auto parts supplier ZF/TRW, but U.S. government documents show they perform similarly to deadly inflators made by Takata. The recall covers Volvo S60 and S80 cars from 2001 through 2003 model years. Volvo said it will replace the driver’s air bag at no cost to customers.The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Saturday that it’s reviewing data with Volvo about other vehicles with the inflators and will decide on further action. ZF/TRW didn't immediately respond to messages left Saturday asking about whether the inflators were sold to other automakers. The federal agency says the Volvo inflator rupture is the only known incident worldwide. Japanese parts maker Takata used ammonium nitrate to create a small explosion to inflate air bags in a crash. But the chemical can deteriorate over time when exposed to moisture in the air. The explosion can blow apart a metal canister and hurl shrapnel into the passenger compartment.At least 26 people have been killed worldwide by the inflators, including 17 in the United States.The problem caused the largest series of auto recalls in U.S. history, with at least 63 million inflators recalled. As of September, more than 11.1 million had not been fixed, according to the U.S. government. Two men were so desperate Saturday afternoon they ordered a Lyft to get to Los Angeles.Crews put in metal plates and back-filled with a concrete slurry, reinforcing the cliff and tracks on top. They were confident it would be a long-time fix."It doesn’t seem like a safe thing, it seems like it should be moved, someone said you can’t stop Mother Nature," passenger Justice Drake said. (KGTV/AP) -- A notorious 86-year-old jewel thief convicted of a theft in Mission Valley is now charged with shoplifting.Doris Payne was arrested July 17 near Atlanta and charged with misdemeanor shoplifting after a Walmart employee said she tried to leave the Chamblee store with items she hadn't paid for.Payne was on probation at the time after pleading guilty in March to a felony shoplifting charge for trying to steal a ,000 necklace from a department store in December.
