A new campaign is bringing attention to an issue that hasn't been front and center since the pandemic started – missing children.“There has been a lot of awareness, a lot of things have changed, but regarding her case, unfortunately there's nothing,” said Jessica Nu?ez about her missing 15-year-old daughter, Alicia Navarro.Navarro, who has autism, was 14 when she vanished in the middle of the night last September from her home in Glendale, Arizona.Alicia played online games and her mother thinks she was lured away by someone she met online. They had even discussed the dangers in therapy.“And then she wrote me a letter where she sweared to me she was coming back, so that’s what has me very worried, because I know her intention was for her to come back and that’s why I won’t stop looking,” said Nu?ez. “I won’t stop looking until I get answers because it’s been so long.”In a new effort to bring attention to missing children like Alicia Navarro, their pictures will be featured on some gas station pump video screens. Alicia's picture will be up in Arizona.The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children is coordinating the effort featuring various different missing children's pictures in the states they disappeared from.Her mother wants people to know she looks young for her age and has a noticeable scar on her right knuckles.“People tend to forget so my goal is to continue sharing her story and having her image out there,” said Nu?ez.There's also a Facebook page, called "Finding Alicia," where you can share her picture. 1557
A video of a Missoula, Montana Pita Pit employee spitting in a customer's food during what appears to be an argument has gone viral, prompting the restaurant to issue an apology. The video was posted early Saturday morning, and has since been shared more than 5,000 times. The video, which lasts 30 seconds, appears to be during the middle of an argument over the store's hours. In the video, one of the customers apparently dared the employee to spit in the food. Once the employee spit in the food, a customer jumped over the counter briefly. The owner of the Missoula Pita Pit location issued a statement on its Facebook account. "There is no excuse whatsoever for the type of behavior shown by an employee that I can assure you is no longer working for us," the statement read. "This is an owner run store. We work here forty plus hours per week, but we are not in during all hours of operation. This employee’s behavior does not represent who we are as a family or a business. A new study about video gamers pretty much shatters the stereotype many people have about them.Researchers at the Queensland University of Technology in Australia conducted what they say is the first study on body mass index from a worldwide sample of e-sports players. What they found surprised even them.“When we went into the study, we were kind of expecting that the gamers would have a much higher BMI than the general population, but what we found was the complete opposite. We found that players tended to have up to 21% more likelihood of being a normal weight,” said lead researcher Michael Trotter.The study included hundreds of participants from 65 countries. It showed gamers were between 9% and 21% more likely to be a healthy weight. Players also drank less and smoked less than the general population.Trotter started the university's e-sports program before he started studying for his PhD. He says he was surprised that serious players focused on their health almost as much as their playing. He says players requested a personal trainer, a dietician, and a sports psychologist.The study also found the healthier players were the better players.“We found that the players who were in the top 10% of all players and we measured up to 2.5 thousand players, it wasn't a small study. We found the top 10% of all players were exercising significantly more than their lower ranked counterparts,” said Trotter.Trotter says the growth of e-sports is huge and future programs will need to look at this study and realize they must focus on the health of players.He also says future research will need to be done on the overall health of e-sports players, such as muscle mass and bone density. 1706
