SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A lifelong San Diego resident says he's sick of seeing overgrown brush in local medians — and he's willing to put himself in the weeds to resolve it.Adam Huntington says the weeds are giving local beach towns a bad look."Great people, great vibes, unfortunately our aesthetics aren't matching up to the great vibes right now," Huntington says. Next to a traffic sign, he says, "the weed was literally growing this high all around this."While some may be used to the weeds sprouting from Mission Blvd. medians, Huntington said he can't ignore the eyesore anymore. "I don't think anyone wants to see their beach look like this when the come to visit it," Huntington said.So the mortgage loan officer has been cleaning up the medians in his spare time. He first uses a weed wacker to cut down the brush, then rakes out the weeds, and finally sweeps and cleans them up. He's been posting his progress on social media. And it's not just Mission Beach.Clairemont Lutheran Church is doing similar work, organizing volunteers to clean up overgrown medians.Huntington has complained to the city and is frustrated with their response. But officials tell us they are trying to make this issue a priority.The mayor's allocated over a million dollars for vegetation and brush abatement in the current fiscal year. With that money the city has cleaned up weeds on 42 miles of median, completing more than 200 requests since July 1. The city blames excessive weed and vegetation growth to the wet winter and spring. Huntington plans to tackle other areas of the city, and says he'd be pleasantly surprised if the city beats him to it. 1646

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A local medical spa is coming under fire for offering a coronavirus treatment that costs thousands of dollars but the spa director defends his actions.Dr. Jennings Staley operates Carmel Valley’s Skinny Beach med spa which specializes in treatments like Botox and laser hair removal. He says he’s been dealing with a lot over the last few days.“Death threats. Last Friday, screen shots shared with 10News revealed his new COVID-19 treatment pricing plans which go up to nearly ,000 for a family resistance pack which includes, in part, the prescription drugs and vitamin C. “It just seems to me that it's a way to profit off of people's fear,” says Seattle-area family practitioner Dr. Leanne Kildare. Cold vs. Flu vs. Coronavirus SymptomsWhen she saw the ads, she was stunned.One ad description reads in part, "Dr. Staley will evaluate your symptoms via telemedicine” and "if needed, a nurse or Dr. Staley will visit you at your home" for further evaluation and potential in-home COVID-19 testing and possibly start a treatment pack, which is "now available by prescription only through Skinny Beach med spa." “It doesn’t sit well,” adds Dr. Kildare.“I knew it would be a little bit controversial because there was the controversy around the fact that hydroxychloroquine wasn't approved until Sunday night but I didn't think people would be so angry,” Dr. Staley tells 10News.The FDA gave emergency approval Sunday to distribute hydroxychloroquine to hospitals, despite the potential side effects like heart problems, and lack of studies showing the medication's benefits.“I would not prescribe the medication without seeing the patient and evaluating them first,” Dr. Staley says.He tells 10News that he's treating about 20 patients with possible COVID-19 symptoms and he's only charging a few of them for his services. He adds that he doesn't have test kits yet and he has not yet prescribed any of them the hydroxychloroquine.Dr. Kildare believes it’s irresponsible to offer the drug outside of a controlled hospital setting.“I wouldn't take the risk. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A new restaurant with a "Sam the Cooking Guy" concept is coming to Seaport Village. The Port of San Diego this week approved a 10-year lease with the owners and operators of Carnitas Snack Shack, Broken Yolk, and Little Italy food hall to open a new kind of restaurant at Seaport Village.The new restaurant, which will be on the east end of the property, will have a "Sam the Cooking Guy" concept. Sam Zien, also known as Sam the Cooking Guy, is a celebrity chef who aims to make cooking more down-to-earth, using ingredients that come from the everyday supermarket. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A jury has reached a verdict in the civil trial between NFL star Drew Brees and a San Diego-based jeweler. A jury Friday found local jeweler Vahid Moradi liable for fraud, awarding Brees ,130,767 in damages in his lawsuit against Moradi.The Brees family accused Moradi and his company, CJ Charles Jewelers in La Jolla, of selling Brees and his wife several supposedly investment grade diamonds that would appreciate in value 150 to 200 percent.RELATED: Closing arguments being held in civil trial between NFL star Drew Brees and San Diego-based jewelerThat wasn't the case, according to Brees, who says Moradi lied about the true value of the diamonds. Between 2012 and 2016, the Brees family says Moradi sold them million in diamonds. But when they took those diamonds to an appraiser in 2017, they were told the diamonds are worth million less than what they paid.In one instance, Brees' attorney Rebecca Riley said Moradi sold the NFL star a diamond for .1 million that was actually worth .75 million. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A power outage affected thousands San Diego Gas & Electric customers in the Ocean Beach area and SeaWorld late Friday.The outage was reported just before 4 p.m. It wasn't immediately clear what led to the outage.SeaWorld said the power outage was short lived and only affected the central and west areas of the theme park. No guests were trapped on any rides or injured and all animals were okay, according to the park.UPDATED TRAFFIC CONDITIONSThe outage also hit a portion of San Diego International Airport. Officials say power has since been restored but had affected Terminal 2 and the Rental Car Center.In total, about 15,000 customers have been affected, according to the power company. Crews were able to restore all power as of 5:40 p.m., according to SDG&E. 822
