BUDAPEST, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao made a five-point proposal here Saturday to enhance China's cooperation with countries in Central and Eastern Europe. When delivering a speech at the China-Central and East European Countries Economic and Trade Forum, Wen said China cherished its longstanding and deep friendship with the countries in the region."Over the past several decades, although the international situation and the domestic situations of both sides have undergone big changes, we have always enjoyed mutual respect, mutual trust, mutual understanding and mutual support," Wen said. Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao addresses the China-Central and Eastern European Countries Economic and Trade Forum in Budapest, Hungary, June 25, 2011.He said cooperation in various fields between the two sides had made tremendous progress, referring to the rapid growth of two-way trade, the burgeoning of mutual investment, the expansion of cooperation areas and the improvement of cooperation mechanisms.China encouraged its companies to "go global" and saw Central and Eastern Europe as a strategic priority, the Chinese leader said, adding that his current visit was "both a journey of friendship and a journey of cooperation."

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- Microsoft's cloud-based software Microsoft Office 365 on Wednesday experienced its first major outage since its introduction in late June."At approximately 11:30 a.m. PDT, Microsoft became aware of a networking issue affecting customers of some Microsoft services hosted out of one of our North American data centers," said Steven Gerri, general manager for Microsoft Global Foundation Services, in a statement"We apologize for the inconvenience that Office 365 outage has caused today. We are working on resolving the issue," the software giant said via Twitter.Outages were reported in Chicago, Denver and New York City among other locations. According to tweets from affected users, they were unable to access their email and managers were unable to manage accounts. The outage lasted approximately five hours and services have been restored for the moment.According to Microsoft service-level agreement, Microsoft guarantees a 99.9 percent level of uptime. If it fails to reach 99.9 percent uptime, users are eligible for 25 percent service credit. As more industry giants try to entice users to move to the "cloud," a term refers to the management and provision of applications and data over the Internet, the downtime again reminds cloud computing users that they must prepare to deal with outages and rethink their dependency on the service, analysts said.Amazon has suffered two major cloud outages earlier this month and back in April, impacting some of its high-profile users like movie streaming service Netflix and location-based social networking Foursquare.Analysts recommend cloud users to store data with multiple service providers to minimize the risk and limit their dependency on cloud services for business-critical processes.Available in 40 countries and regions since June 28, Office 365, which Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said is "where Microsoft office meets the cloud," combines Microsoft Office, SharePoint Online, Exchange Online and Lync Online into a single cloud-based package for business users.

YANGON, July 10 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar is projecting to build the first-ever liver transplant hospital in line with the international standard, the local weekly Voice reported Sunday. With the technological help of the Changi General Hospital of Singapore, a 40-million-U.S dollar worth private hospital has started building since late last month. The hospital will offer services for the patients living with heart and kidney diseases and for protection from being affected Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA), the report said.In Myanmar, liver transplant will cost about 20 million Kyats ( 25,000 U.S. dollars), lesser than other countries, the report added.Myanmar experts carried out successful liver-transplant operation in 2004 for the first time and in 2009 for the second time.

WASHINGTON, June 21 (Xinhua) -- Brain cancer patients who are able to exercise live significantly longer than sedentary patients, U.S. scientists at the Duke Cancer Institute have reported. The finding, published online this week in the Journal of Clinical Oncology, adds to recent research that exercise improves how cancer patients feel during and after treatments, and may also extend their lives. The study enrolled 243 patients with advanced recurrent gliomas, lethal brain malignancies that typically result in a median life expectancy of less than six months. The patients who reported participating in regular, brisk exercise -- the equivalent of an energetic walk five days a week for 30 minutes -- had significantly prolonged survival, living a median 21.84 months versus 13.03 months for the most sedentary patients."This provides some initial evidence that we need to look at the effects of exercise interventions, not only to ease symptoms but also to impact progression and survival," said Lee Jones, associate professor in the Duke Cancer Institute and senior author of the study.

BEIJING, Aug. 10 (Xinhuanet) -- A new technology can tell pregnant women whether they're having a boy or girl as early as seven weeks into a pregnancy -- months earlier than usual, according to media reports Wednesday. The technology works by detecting "cell-free fetal DNA," or DNA from the fetus, which floats freely in a pregnant woman's blood, said author Diana Bianchi of the Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston. Her analysis of 57 studies from peer-reviewed medical journals showed that these blood tests, common in Europe but not in the U.S. can reveal a fetus' sex only a week or two after a pregnant woman misses her period. Women usually learn the fetus' sex through an ultrasound at 18 to 20 weeks. The technology will help families worried by having a child with rare genetic disorders that typically affect only boys, such as hemophilia or a type of muscular dystrophy, said Joseph Biggio, director of the Trimester Genetics Screening Clinic at the University of Alabama-Birmingham.If they're having a girl, however, they can stop worrying, he added, and avoid further invasive tests, which can provide a definitive answer about genetic disorders, but also increase the risk of miscarriage. Women who learn they're carrying boys would still need a definitive test, such as an amniocentesis, to find out if their fetus is affected.
