SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego grocery store employees rallied Friday due to ongoing negotiations with Kroger affecting some 50,000 workers at Ralphs, Vons and Albertsons in Southern California. “Workers have been without a contract since March, and after 26 failed negotiation sessions are demanding action,” said Todd Walters, President of UFCW Local 135.Some 200 workers were joined at Friday’s rally in Mission Hills by the Teamsters Joint Council 42, who agreed to stop all grocery product deliveries in the event of a strike, union leaders reported.“The negotiations process can take time to reach reasonable solutions that are best for our associates, our communities and our company,” said a spokesperson from Ralphs.The grocery store agreed to meet with the unions from Aug. 22 - 25 to continue negotiations. 823

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Residents of San Diego County are still disposing of more waste than the average Californian, according to a report by the research group Equinox Project at the Center for Sustainable Energy.According to the report, San Diego continues to dispose of more waste per capita than any of the other major urban counties throughout the state.The latest numbers, which came out in 2016, show that each San Diegan tossed out an average of 5.5 pounds of trash per day in 2016.Within San Diego County, residents in Del Mar disposed of the most trash at 16.5 pounds per capita.Residents of Imperial Beach, however, disposed of the least trash at 3.3 pounds per person followed by Chula Vista at 3.7 pounds per capita.The numbers show that three jurisdictions, Solana Beach, Lemon Grove and Coronado, decreased their waste disposal in 2016.Residents of within the city of San Diego disposed of 5.9 pounds of waste per person per day.The numbers below show how much trash per capita jurisdictions around the county disposed of: 1052

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police have released video footage of an officer-involved shooting involving a man who was arrested and reportedly stole a gun out of an officer's backpack Sunday.The footage includes bodycam video from officers inside the police station's sally port, as well as surveillance footage of the parking area.Police say a 25-year-old Hispanic man, later identified as Keith Bergman, was arrested shortly after 6:20 p.m. after an incident at a downtown San Diego hotel on Sunday. A hotel security guard reported the man was “acting strange” and threatening others.Bergman was evaluated for being under the influence and arrested, according to SDPD. Police say they found methamphetamine and five credit cards that didn't belong to him in his pockets.See the video in the player above (If the video doesn't appear below, click here)Officers brought Bergman to SDPD headquarters. Just after 8 p.m., police said the suspect somehow freed one hand from his handcuffs while inside the patrol SUV, and then broke a divider that separates the prisoner seat area from the cargo area.Police said Bergman found an officer’s backpack that contained a backup handgun. When officers returned to check on the suspect, he was still in the vehicle but armed with a gun, according to SDPD.Officers drew their weapons and gave Bergman verbal commands to drop the weapon, but he refused and fired at least one round from the gun, police said.The officers felt threatened, police said, and at least one round was fired at Bergman, hitting him in the torso.Bergman reached out of the vehicle's window and opened the door to exit while he was still armed, police said, adding that he tried to open the rear cargo compartment of the SUV and the driver's door, refusing orders to stop in the process.RELATED: San Diego Police: Suspect shot by officers after finding officer's gun in patrol SUVPolice eventually released a service dog to subdue Bergman, and police moved in to arrest him.Officers provided first aid at the scene and Bergman was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to SDPD.San Diego Police also identified the three officers involved in the shooting as Paul Yi, a six-year veteran of the department, Michael Rodriguez, who has been with the department for 10 months, and Timothy Arreola, an eight-year veteran of the department. After the department's Homicide Unit completes its investigation, the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office will look at the incident to determine if the officers bear any criminal liability for their actions. The Internal Affairs Unit will also conduct an investigation, and the Shooting Review Board will evaluate the tactics used by the officers. The Community Review Board on Police Practices will conduct a review of the incident and provide any appropriate recommendations. San Diego businesses operating outdoors for the pandemic are making plans to stay dry.Since the pandemic started businesses in San Diego have had to get creative to stay afloat.Arthur Boia started PB Yogs as a way for yoga instructors to safely continue classes outdoors.“The thing with us is we’re yogi’s so we’re very flexible,” said Boia. “Whatever it takes.”They hold daily classes at Hospitality Point in Mission Bay where they implement temperature checks and social distancing.Boia says outdoor classes have been working out well under San Diego sunshine, but rain this weekend might pose some challenges.“If for some reason it starts raining and we have to cancel a class we’ll cancel it,” said Boia. “But as soon as it clears up, we’re gonna run right back out here and do yoga.”With rainy season underway, he’s looking for other ways to keep the yoga flowing.“When I was thinking of a tent, I was thinking to close off the back area so you can protect from the wind a little bit, but we also want to have good airflow for COVID reasons. As for the rain, that’s just something we’re gonna have to go by day-by-day," Boia said.Belmont Park is another business with outdoor operations.“We have our new go-kart track, our rock climbing wall, zip line, mini golf,” said Senior Marketing Manager Daniela Bower.The Belmont Park Harvest Walk event runs every Saturday through Nov. 14. Bower says they may have to cancel this weekend.“Even just for safety we can’t operate a lot of things when it’s raining,” said Bower.She adds after a year like 2020, wet weather will just add insult to injury.“It’s already been a struggle for us to be able to open in the first place, so it definitely kind of stings a little bit when we have to close for other reasons,” said Bower.Bower says they’ll make the call Friday afternoon on whether or not to cancel Saturday’s event.The City of San Diego is offering free sandbags in each City Council District. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police are asking for the public’s help locating a man suspected of threatening a Target employee with a razor during a robbery.Police say the incident happened around 10 a.m. on March 25 at the Target on the 1200 block of Camino Del Rio North.According to police, a loss prevention officer noticed a man inside the store he recognized from previous encounters.Police say the man grabbed three memory cards and attempted to remove them from their cases.After removing one of the memory cards and placing it in his pocket, the man was confronted by the officer who followed him to the exit.The suspect then threatened the officer with a folding razor knife he removed from his waistband.The suspect is described as a six-foot tall 28-year-old white male wearing a tan colored long-sleeve dress shirt, blue jeans and black tennis shoes.Anyone with information is asked to call San Diego Police at 619-531-2299. 951
