PARIS, April 27 (Xinhua) -- French President Nicolas Sarkozy says he wants to enhance Franco-Sino relations at all levels because China has an indispensable role to play on the global stage. The French president was speaking in an interview with Xinhua Tuesday before his visit to China, where he will attend the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai.President Sarkozy described bilateral ties and partnership as comprehensive as well as strategic."Comprehensive, because it covers all aspects of our relationship; strategic, because China has become an absolutely essential player on the international stage. There is no more big issue today that we can tackle without China," Sarkozy said.Referring to the establishment of the France-China diplomatic relations 45 years ago, the president said some misunderstanding between the two countries had belonged to the past and he held a firm confidence in China's future."This is why I made the strengthening of the Franco-Chinese partnership a priority of our foreign policy," Sarkozy said.He said relations between the two countries had warmed and France would like to further ties with China "in all dimensions."
SHENZHEN, May 22 (Xinhua) -- Preliminary investigation shows that factors including failed romance, unrestrained gambling could be the reasons behind suicide of a Foxconn Technology Group employee Friday, said police authorities in south China's Shenzhen City.Nan Gang, 21, climbed to the top of a factory building in Foxconn's industrial complex in Longhua Township and fell to his death at 4:37 a.m., said Huang Jianwei, a spokesman of the Bao'an Police Station, of the Shenzhen Public Security Bureau.Nan's suspected suicide was the 10th of the kind ever happening at the Foxconn's Shenzhen plant since the beginning of the year.Police said they learned from investigations that Nan Gang's parents were divorced and Nan was the only child of the family. Nan's ex-girlfriend got married this year in February, and his new girlfriend also deserted him early this month.Nan was said to be ill tempered and fond of gambling, and was thus in deep debts before his death.According to the police, not long ago, Nan had fights with his co-workers, so he employed others to beat the co-workers, but was later blackmailed by the same group of people.Nan allegedly had said he would take revenge and even showed his intent to commit suicide before he fell off the building Friday.Police have already captured the suspects for blackmailing Nan pending further investigation.Shenzhen-based Foxconn's company profile on its website says it's the world's top electronics manufacturer with more than 600,000 employees and ranked 109 among the Fortune 500 companies in 2009. It is linked to Taiwan electronics giant Hon Hai Group.

Taipei, April 25 (Xinhua) -- Signing the cross-Strait economic and trade pact, ECFA, will benefit Taiwan, Taiwan leader Ma Ying-jeou said here Sunday in a television debate.Ma debated with the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Chairwoman Tsai Ing-wen during a two-hour televised debate over the economic cooperation framework agreement (ECFA), a free trade agreement the Taiwan authority intends to sign with the Chinese mainland.Taiwan urgently needs a trade pact with China to usher in a golden decade of economic boom, Ma said, accusing DPP of exaggerating the adverse effects of ECFA and manipulating public fear.Lee Tung-Hao, a professor with the National Chengchi University, said there are different voices over ECFA because of public misunderstanding of the pact, but the debate will help build consensus. The ECFA, a priority in cross-Strait relations, is aimed at institutionalizing economic cooperation between the mainland and Taiwan and facilitating and regularizing economic and trade exchanges.
