A plane made an emergency landing right on the shoreline in Ocean City Tuesday afternoon, with vacationers watching just feet away.Officials with the Maryland State Police say no one was injured in the crash.The sole occupant, 23-year-old Trevor H. Deihl took off from Reedville, Virginia on a local fishspotting operation and planned to land at the Ocean City Municipal Airport.Deihl told police he was about a mile from shore when he began to have engine trouble and ultimately glided the plane into the ocean.According to the Ocean City Police Department, an officer observed a small private plane make an emergency water landing at the beach and 21st Street at approximately 6:19 p.m.Personnel from the Ocean City Beach Patrol and the Ocean City Police Department immediately responded to the scene. According to a preliminary investigation, witnesses say the plane appeared to glide toward the water as it descended and then float on the surface of the ocean when it landed. The plane then floated in toward the beach. Graysen Levy of Baltimore was there when the landing happened and captured the video."We were just in the water five minutes prior, got out to dry, turned around to see a plane skimming the water into an emergency landing," Levy said. "The kid got out safely and the plane fully submerged into the water afterwards." Police believe that the plane experienced mechanical problems, however further investigation will be conducted by Maryland State Police. 1489

A Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, neighborhood had plenty to talk about Monday morning!A large gator was found in a swimming pool at a home in the Marlwood Estates community on Graemoor Terrace, and had to be removed.Video from a neighbor shows a trapper hauling the huge reptile out of the pool and dragging it across the lawn.It's unclear how the gator got into the fenced yard, or how big it is.Vanessa Schultz said she was walking her kids to the bus stop around 7:15 a.m. Monday when she was told a large alligator was in her neighbor's pool. "It was big, really big," said Schultz, who captured images of the alligator. "I was totally in panic. When I saw the alligator I was scared."Schultz said she’s lived in Marlwood Estates for three years and has only seen a gator there once before. She said the an alligator was spotted in a lake last year behind her property.Schultz, a mother of three, thinks the gator in the pool was likely 9 feet long and over 300 pounds."It totally concerns me. So now I’m scared and I don’t want to leave my kids outside playing in the backyard," said Schultz. "I also need to check the pool and check before going outside the house."The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said the gator was 9 feet long, and was relocated to a farm."It concerns me. A measure of hiring by U.S. companies has fallen to a seven-year low and fewer employers are raising pay, a business survey has found.Just one-fifth of the economists surveyed by the National Association for Business Economics said their companies have hired additional workers in the past three months. That is down from one-third in July. Job totals were unchanged at 69% of companies, up from 57% in July. A broad measure of job gains in the survey fell to its lowest level since October 2012.The hiring slowdown comes as more businesses are reporting slower growth of sales and profits. Business economists also expect the economy’s growth to slow in the coming year, partly because tariffs have raised prices and cut into sales for many firms.“The U.S. economy appears to be slowing, and respondents expect still slower growth over the next 12 months,” said Constance Hunter, NABE president and chief economist at the accounting firm KPMG.Perhaps because of concerns over a weakening economy, businesses are less likely to offer higher pay, even with unemployment at a 50-year low. Just one-third of economists said their firms had lifted pay in the past three months, down from more than half a year ago.Companies are also cutting back on their investments in machinery, computers, and other equipment. The proportion of firms increasing their spending on such goods is at its lowest level in five years, the survey found.Sales are also growing more slowly. Just 39% of economists said they rose in the past three months, down from 61% a year earlier. And only 38% said they expect sales to rise in the next three months, also down from 61% a year ago.Many business economists blamed President Trump’s tariffs on steel, aluminum, and on most imports from China for worsening business conditions. Thirty-five percent said the duties have hurt their companies, while just 7% said they had a positive effect.Of those who said tariffs had impacted their companies, 19% said they had lowered their sales and 30% said the duties pushed up costs.That has cut into profits for many firms. Just 19% of economists said their companies’ profit margins have risen in the past three months, barely half the 37% who reported greater profits a year earlier.Two-thirds of the economists surveyed now forecast that the economy will grow just 1.1% to 2% from the third quarter of 2019 through the third quarter of 2020.
