BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao said here Tuesday that he and U.S. President Barack Obama had agreed to improve Sino-U.S. relations and reached consensus on major international and regional issues of common concern. After nearly two hours of talks, Hu told the press at Beijing's Great Hall of the People that his talks with Obama was "candid, constructive and fruitful."     Standing beside Obama, Hu said China and the United States shared broad common interests and have great potential for future development on a series of major issues concerning peace and development of the mankind. Both China and the United States believed that close high-level contacts and dialogues and consultations at various levels were of great importance to the two countries' relationship, he said.     The two presidents agreed to keep close communication through visits, phone calls, letters and meetings at multilateral occasions, Hu said.     The two leaders also spoke highly of the role of the strategic and economic dialogue mechanism in boosting mutual trust and cooperation between the two countries.     China and the United States would continue implementing the agreements reached at the first round of the dialogue last July in Washington and will start preparations as soon as possible for the second round of the Sino-U.S. Strategic and Economic Dialogue (S&ED) next summer in Beijing, Hu said. 　　ECONOMIC COOPERATION     The two leaders exchanged views on the current global financial situation and held that despite the positive signs of the global economic recovery, the foundation of the global economic recovery was far from solid.     Hu and Obama agreed to strengthen dialogue and cooperation on macro-economic policies, properly handle trade frictions through negotiations and jointly ensure the bilateral economic and trade ties to develop in a healthy and steady way.     "I stressed to President Obama that under the current situation, our two countries should oppose and resist protectionism in all forms in an even stronger stand," he said. "Such a commitment serves the common interests of China and the United States and all other parties concerned."     Hu said China and the United States would work with other parties concerned to stick to the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and the six-party talks process to safeguard peace and stability of the northeast Asia.     The two presidents stressed that it was very important for the stability in the Middle East and the Gulf Region to uphold the international nuclear non-proliferation regime and properly resolve the Iran nuclear issue through dialogue and negotiation, Hu said.     ONE-CHINA POLICY     Hu said the key to Sino-U.S. relationship was to mutually respect and accommodate each other's core interests and major concerns while divergences from different national conditions were normal as the two sides had different country situations.     He said that China appreciated President Obama's support for the one-China policy and the three Sino-U.S. joint communiques, and his respect for China's national sovereignty and territorial integrity on the Taiwan issue and other matters.     Hu said the two sides had reaffirmed the "cardinal principle" of "mutually respecting national sovereignty and territorial integrity" and voiced opposition to any attempt by any force to violate this principle.     "We have both agreed to conduct dialogues and exchanges on issues including human rights and religion, in the spirit of equality, mutual respect and non-interference in each other's internal affairs, so as to boost understanding, mitigate divergences and broaden consensus," Hu said.     "The Sino-U.S. relationship is very important. Maintaining and promoting the Sino-U.S. relationship is a shared responsibility of both sides," Hu said.     "China is ready to work together with the United States to push forward the continuous, healthy and stable development of the Sino-U.S. relationship to better serve the two countries' peoples and peoples across the world," Hu said.

ABU DHABI, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- More than 40 world leading renewable energy companies from China have confirmed their participation in the upcoming World Future Energy Summit (WFES) in Abu Dhabi, organizers said Sunday.     The Chinese pavilion at the meeting, which is now in its third year and will be held in the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Jan. 18-21, has already grown to more than 1,000 square meters, ASDA'A Burson-Marsteller, a public relations consultancy, said in a press release.     Leading companies and organizations from all across China, including Suntech Power, Yingli Green Energy Holding and China Sunergy, are expected to participate in the summit, the press release said.     It noted that there is a particularly strong presence of companies from China's eastern province of Jiangsu, where solar power is a pillar of the local economy, saying approximately half of the Chinese firms participating are from the province.     According to the press release, Shi Zhengrong, Suntech's chairman and CEO, will take part in a discussion on International Policy and Climate Change Action Plans during the summit.     Suntech, a NYSE-listed company with a market capitalization of nearly 3 billion U.S. dollars, is the world's largest producer of crystalline silicon solar panels and has delivered solar energy products to more than 80 countries over the past eight years, it said.     The China Greentech Report, recently issued by the China Greentech Initiative, a partnership of more than 80 of the world's leading companies and organizations, projects that the Chinese government's investment in its "greentech" industry will drive private sector investment, which could create a national market worth up to 1 trillion dollars annually.     Such significant investment and government commitment have led to China playing a significant role in the exhibition at the WFES this year, the press release said.     The WFES, a global platform for sustainable future energy solutions launched in 2008, gathers industrial leaders, investors, scientists, specialists, policymakers and researchers to discuss challenges of rising energy demand and actions to achieve a cleaner and more sustainable future for the world.     Abu Dhabi, an emerging global hub for renewable energy, is the venue for the annual meeting, held along with the World Future Energy and Environment exhibitions.     In June last year, the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) decided to base its headquarters in the UAE capital. 

TORONTO, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- The emerging markets of China, India and Brazil will lead the way in global auto sales in 2010, a report said Tuesday.     The U.S. market, meanwhile, was expected to see a double-digit increase and will lead the growth of mature markets in 2010, said the global auto report by Canadian Scotiabank Economics.     The report said that a cyclical recovery in global auto sales began in the spring of 2009 and would gain momentum in 2010.     China became the world's largest auto market in 2009, surpassing purchases in the United States. Car sales in China surged by more than 40 percent to 7.3 million units this year thanks to government incentives.     The incentives included a reduction in sales tax from 10 percent to 5 percent for small fuel-efficient vehicles with engines less than 1.6 litres.     The incentives were expected to lift sales by 20 percent to nearly 9 million units in 2010, the report said.     "Global car sales will continue to be buoyed by the ongoing massive and synchronized monetary and fiscal stimulus, which has generated a global economic recovery, including improving auto lending across the globe," said Carlos Gomes, senior economist at Scotia Economics.     "In fact, we estimate that auto loans across major markets bottomed in the first quarter of 2009 and have improved consistently alongside a thawing in global credit markets and falling interest rates," he said.     According to the report, improving access to credit and a return to 3-percent growth in the world economy will enable 2010 car sales to recapture half of the ground lost over the past two years, and set the stage for record volumes in 2011.     Auto sales in the United States have reversed the downward trend, with volumes advancing above a year earlier since August alongside a nascent economic recovery.     The report also predicted that through a vehicle scrappage program to spur the market, auto sales in Canada would reach 1.53 million units in 2010, up from 1.45 million this year.     "On average, 7 percent of the Canadian fleet is replaced each year," Gomes said. "However, the scrappage rate slumped to less than 6 percent in 2009, as the global economic downturn prompted Canadians to tighten their wallets and continue to drive their aging vehicles.

BEIJING, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Friday congratulated EU's top leaders elected on Thursday, vowing to further boost China-EU all-round strategic partnership.     Wen made the remarks in his meeting with a group of EU diplomats including former French Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin and Hungary's ex-Prime Minister Peter Medgyessy, who were here to attend a China-EU forum.     The Belgian prime minister was unanimously elected on Thursday as the first full-time EU president and Britain's EU Trade Commissioner Catherine Ashton as EU foreign policy chief.     "As a strategic partner of the EU, China congratulates the leaders elected and feels glad for that," Wen said.     Calling EU as an important pole of the world, Wen said the EU integration would help the 27-nation bloc to play greater role in international affairs.     He called for courage and insight of political figures of both sides, as well as support from various circles of the society to deepen China-EU relations.     "The Chinese government is ready to cement trust and deepen cooperation with EU to promote bilateral all-round strategic partnership," he added.     Some of the EU representatives told Wen both the EU and China shoulder great responsibilities in the world globalization. RABAT, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, who is on a five-nation African tour, held talks Monday with his Moroccan counterpart Taieb Fassi Fihri on ways to upgrade relations between the two countries.     The two spoke highly of the abundant achievements that have been made in bilateral cooperation in various fields, mainly in politics, economy and trade, culture and health, since the establishment of diplomatic ties 52 years ago, an official press release gained by Xinhua said.     It said the two ministers agreed to continuously promote the upgrading of China-Morocco friendly ties by enhancing political mutual trust, deepening cooperation, expand people-to-people exchanges and strengthening coordination in international and regional issues.     After the talks, the two top diplomats signed a China-Morocco joint communique on Morocco's recognition of China's market economy status.     Yang is on his first official foreign visit of the year that includes five African nations, namely Kenya, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Algeria and Morocco, as well as Saudi Arabia.     It has been China's tradition for 20 years that its foreign minister visits Africa in the beginning of the year.
