SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Starbucks customers are noticing a difference since employees were notified Friday of a revised customer policy, acknowledging "any person who enters our spaces, including patios, cafes and restrooms, regardless of whether they make a purchase, is considered a customer."This comes a month after two men were arrested in a?Philadelphia store, sparking national outrage."They're trying to make sure they fix the problem and everything and keep everything straight because they're not trying to be racist, I think," Customer Maurice Howard said.Every customer who spoke with 10News Sunday said they were happy to hear about the revised policy, hoping what happened in Philadelphia will never recur.Customer Francisco Ruiz said the coffee shops provide a service for the community, a notion echoed by the company's vision to create a "third place between work and home."It's no secret students see Starbucks as a study sanctuary. Others, like Yvonne Pardo, conduct business at some of the chains out of convenience."I'm a hiring manager for a local business and I do my interviews at Starbucks," Pardo said.When she learned of the arrest in Philadelphia, she still came in to conduct interviews, but didn't buy anything to see what would happen."Obviously I was impressed at the fact that I wasn't asked to leave, and I was there for four hours one time... Knowing that they changed their policy, I'll probably be more likely to be a patron again," she said.The new policy, meant to be more inclusive, could be abused."I was at Starbucks yesterday and there was a loiterer and I thought about that and I was like, now they probably can't ask this person to leave, and he was sleeping," Pardo said the person was homeless."You got a lot of people who want to kick it and chill and stuff like that so it'll probably be overcrowded, a little bit bad for business," Howard said.The new policy does address disruptive behavior instructing employees to call 9-1-1 and follow procedures to bar a customer from the chain if necessary.The complete revised Starbucks policy is online. 2168

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Six robbery suspects were arrested after reportedly assaulting a 14-year-old over a cell phone and leading police on a pursuit late Friday.A 14-year-old boy was walking in the 4400 block of Newport Avenue in Point Loma Heights when a Toyota Rav4 pulled alongside him just before 9:30 p.m., according to San Diego Police.Three suspects, one of whom was armed, got out and demanded the victim's cell phone at gunpoint, police said, before the armed suspect hit the boy over the head with the gun. The suspects then fled the area with the boy's cell phone.Police located the Toyota and tried to pull the vehicle over, prompting the suspects to lead police on a pursuit into the Lincoln Park area. Four juvenile and two adult suspects jumped out of the vehicle at Willie James Jones Ave. and tried to run but were all taken into custody after short foot pursuits, police said. 899

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- SeaWorld San Diego plans to close Thursday as the county prepares for a storm. According to a news release, the theme park made the decision due to heavy rain and strong winds that could sweep through San Diego. The park plans to re-open Friday, November 30. Showers are expected to develop Wednesday night, becoming widespread and heavier by Thursday. Rainfall totals are expected to average between .50” to 1.50” for the coast and valleys with 2” to 4” in the mountains and .50” in the deserts. Strong winds will also accompany the storm. A wind advisory is in effect for the coast and valleys Thursday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and for the mountains and deserts from 6 a.m. Thursday through 6 a.m. Friday. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Seven people were hospitalized Tuesday after two multi-vehicle crashes on Interstate 5 in the Torrey Pines area.The crashes were reported on southbound I-5 near State route 56 just before 1 p.m. Two car crashes — one four-car crash and one three-car crash — occurred in the area, forcing a complete shut down of I-5 for about an hour, according to California Highway Patrol officer Jim Bettencourt.At one point, the CHP's incident log listed as many as a dozen vehicles possibly involved in the crash. The two crashes caused a traffic backup extending to Loma Santa Fe Dr. in Solana Beach.Seven people were taken to Scripps La Jolla Hospital with moderate injuries, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue spokesperson Mónica Mu?oz.The cause of the crashes was not immediately known. 805
