(KGTV) -- A man was arrested over the weekend after a sideshow on the San Francisco Bay Bridge created miles of traffic.In video posted on social media, three cars are seen doing donuts in the middle of the bridge around 10:45 a.m. Sunday.One of the drivers, Gabriel Mora, 21, crashed his white mustang convertible, giving California Highway Patrol to make the arrest.Hours later, several other cars were caught on video burning rubber in the parking lot of pier 30 just south of the bridge.Residents who live in the area say they often call police about the car shows, but say they usually happen late at night. Rains may generate mud and debris flows."The potential for debris flows being triggered is low to moderate. Waterway flows may be rapid and blockage and overtopping in waterways is expected. Roads may be flooded and impassable," a city release said. "People close to and immediately downstream of choke points may be endangered. SARASOTA COUNTY, Florida — Sheriff Tom Knight announced the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office is seeking candidates to protect 12 of its elementary schools in the county.The sheriff is looking to hire 14 candidates to fill the newly designed School Resource Deputy II position.“It has been our goal from day one to identify a practical and cost-effective solution for the school district,” said Sheriff Knight. “After ample research and internal review, we put together a program that is not only compliant with the new law, but will stand to benefit the district and its students, while appealing to law enforcement-certified career seekers looking to give back to this community. SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) — A photo of a Cal State San Marcos graduate is going viral. It shows 29-year-old Erica Alfaro in her cap and gown, standing with her parents, in the middle of a strawberry field in Carlsbad.Her educational journey was anything but easy. “I was a teenage mom,” Alfaro said. She was 15 and pregnant, and became a mother at 16. Alfaro said she dropped out of high school and was stuck in an abusive relationship.“My baby’s father forced me to sleep outside with my baby,” Alfaro said. “That is the night I decided to go back to school.”She left Fresno and returned home to Oceanside. It was then that she remembered a moment from when she was 13-years-old.“My mom took me to work with her in the tomato fields,” Alfaro said. “And I remember she told me, ‘This is our life. The only people who have a good life are the people who have a good education.’”Alfaro was born in Fresno but spent most of her elementary years in Tijuana, Mexico. When she was 13, she and her family moved to Oceanside. Her parents got jobs as farm workers. They never received a formal education. “They don’t know how to read or write,” Alfaro said. All the signs pointed toward her repeating that cycle. But Alfaro was not going to let that happen. “I did it for my son,” she said. Little Luis inspired her to finished high school through homeschool, and enroll in Junior College. The next step was Cal State San Marcos. Statistics show that only 2 percent of teen mothers finish college by the age of 30. But Alfaro pushed forward. “At first I thought I was being unrealistic, but I just started to keep going,” she said. But in 2012, Alfaro got a diagnosis that changed her life once again. “My son was diagnosed with cerebral palsy,” she said. The depression overcame her, and she dropped out of college. But again, she remembered that day at the tomato fields. “I had so many excuses to give up. But giving up was never an option,” Alfaro said. Five years later, she earned her bachelor's degree at CSU San Marcos. On Sunday, as if she has not accomplished enough, Alfaro will receive a Masters in Education from San Diego State University. She hopes to inspire students and her now 13-year-old son, to never give up. “My son represents a new generation,” Alfaro said. “He will have a better future. He will have more opportunities, and I will be there to tell him that it is possible. That he belongs. All those things I never heard myself.” 2454

(KGTV) — San Diego Sheriff's deputies are investigating a possible threat made against West Hills High School late Monday.In a letter to parents, West Hills Principal Robin Ballarin said staff was made aware of the threat Monday concerning a student remark that referenced a possible act of violence.The 15-year-old student has been identified, school officials say.No weapon or written threats were found in connection with the student, deputies said.The remark was reportedly made during class at 10:30 a.m., according to deputies, who called the comment "generic."
