SYDNEY, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- Huawei Technologies, on Monday asked a U.S. District Court to prevent Motorola from illegally transferring Huawei's intellectual property (IP) to Nokia Siemens Networks ("NSN"), officials of Huawei told Xinhua in Sydney, Australia on Tuesday. As a leading player in providing next generation telecommunications network solutions, Huawei took this action as NSN seeks to complete its 1.2 billion U.S. dollars acquisition of Motorola's wireless network business.Since 2000, Huawei and Motorola have had a cooperative relationship in the radio access network and core network businesses, where Motorola has resold Huawei wireless network products to customers under the Motorola name. During this period, Motorola was provided with products and confidential Huawei IP developed by Huawei's team of more than 10,000 engineers.Since the July 2010 announcement by NSN of its purchase of Motorola's wireless network business, Huawei has tried to ensure that Motorola does not transfer this confidential information to NSN.According to officials of Huawei, Motorola's failure to adopt measures sufficient to ensure that Huawei's proprietary information remains confidential has compelled the company to file for the appropriate legal protection of its rights. The officials said Huawei respects the rights of intellectual property holders and is equally committed to the protection of its own innovations and intellectual property.Nearly half of Huawei's 100,000 plus employees are engaged in research and development and Huawei allocates an average of 10 percent of all revenues to R&D annually. By the end of 2010, Huawei had applied for 49,040 essential patents on a global basis.

BEIJING, May 16 (Xinhua) -- An initial ruling by China's Ministry of Commerce said Monday that European Union (EU) members have subsidized potato starch exports to China, hurting the interests of China's domestic industries.China will impose an anti-subsidy provision of the tariff on potato starch products effective from May 19, the ministry said in a statement on its website. The rate will range between 7.7 percent and 11.19 percent, depending on the subsidy margin, according to the statement. The initial ruling accused several EU companies, including France's Roquette Freres and Netherland's AVEBE, of receiving subsidies.China launched an anti-subsidy investigation into potato starch imports from the EU on August 30, 2010 at the request of the China Starch Industry Association. This was China's first-ever anti-subsidy probe into imports from the EU.China had earlier decided to impose anti-dumping tariffs ranging from 12.6 percent to 56.7 percent on EU potato starch products. The new tariffs were effective from April 19.

BEIJING, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- A delegation of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) left Beijing Saturday evening to visit Ghana, Rwanda and Mozambique. The delegation, led by Vice Chairman Li Zhaozhuo of the CPPCC National Committee, was invited by the Parliament of Ghana, the Rwandan Chamber of Deputies and the Parliament of Mozambique.

BEIJING, April 24 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese government has ordered food companies to keep clear and intact records of all their production and selling operations as part of the efforts to prevent the illegal use of food additives. All food manufacturing and management companies must examine all products in stock for any trace of illegal food additives and keep records of the results in accordance with laws and regulations, according to a circular released Sunday by the food safety committee under the State Council, or China's Cabinet. The circular came days after Vice Premier Li Keqiang warned of the great harm from illegal additives in food, promising "a firm attitude, iron-hand measures and more efforts" in dealing with the problem.Companies that fail to keep genuine and intact records and documents will be ordered to reform, and those providing fake records and certificates will be suspended from operations and punished accordingly, said the circular.According to the circular, it is strictly forbidden to produce and sell non-edible materials that are likely to be used in food production without official certificates, and authorized production companies of these materials must adopt a real-name selling system. These materials, including those banned in animal feed and drinking water, should not be sold to food and feed companies, the circular added.A series of food safety scandals emerged in China recently. In one of the latest cases, steamed buns in Shanghai were reported, last week, to have been dyed, sold past their expiration date, or laced with coloring additives to mislead consumers.

BEIJING, April 14 (Xinhuanet) -- The discovery of a sharp-toothed dinosaur fossil in New Mexico, the United States, may bridge a gap in the evolution of the species, researchers said in Wednesday's journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B.Researchers from the Smithsonian Institution unearthed the dinosaur skull and neck vertebrae in Abiquiu, New Mexico, where it had remained buried for around 230 million years. The short snout and slanting front teeth of the find — Daemonosaurus chauliodus — had never before been seen in a Triassic era dinosaur, said Hans-Dieter Sues of the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History.Sues, curator of vertebrate paleontology at the museum, said the discovery helps fill the evolutionary gap between the dinosaurs that lived in what is now Argentina and Brazil about 230 million years ago and the later theropods like the famous Tyrannosaurus rex."Various features of the skull and neck in Daemonosaurus indicate that it was intermediate between the earliest known predatory dinosaurs from South America and more advanced theropod dinosaurs," said Sues."One such feature is the presence of cavities on some of the neck vertebrae related to the structure of the respiratory system," he added. The discovery suggests that there is still much to be learned about the early evolution of dinosaurs."The continued exploration of even well-studied regions like the American Southwest will still yield remarkable new fossil finds," Sues said.
