Members of the migrant caravan traveling through Mexico may have to wait up to six weeks at the US-Mexico border before they begin to seek asylum in the United States, a senior Customs and Border Protection official said Tuesday."Upon the caravan arrival, by virtue of the folks that are, again, here already lawfully presenting themselves, we estimate that the first arrivals of the caravan will get processed in about five or six weeks of presenting themselves here," Customs and Border Protection Deputy Commissioner Robert Perez told CNN in an interview at the San Ysidro, California, port of entry.Tensions on the border have been running high following the groups' extensive trek to the US -- with President Donald Trump citing incidents over the weekend as part of his desire for Congress to fund a border wall.On Sunday, a peaceful protests turned to chaos as migrants coming from Tijuana, Mexico, were met at a pedestrian border crossing by Mexican police who were looking to block them, according to San Diego Union-Tribune reporter Wendy Fry."Frustrations kind of started to rise. It definitely got more heated ... and then people just started running in all different directions,"?Fry told CNN.Customs and Border Protection officials said protesters then pushed past the Mexican police barricade, and as they attempted to cross the US border, CBP officials used tear gas to disperse the group -- which included families with young children.Anytime there is a use of force incident on the border, including non-lethal methods, an internal review is done to determine that all policies are followed."Because I anticipate this chain of events could easily happen again at any minute, I actually asked for an expedited review of the use of force," said San Diego sector Chief Patrol Agent Rodney Scott.Perez said the officers who deployed the tear gas are trained and certified to do so, and added that those individuals attempting to cross the border were throwing rocks and other projectiles at the border patrol agents."It was a very dynamic and very dangerous situation," Perez said. "It is very unfortunate ... that we had a situation where folks who were particularly vulnerable -- children and females -- chose to immerse themselves in that type of an unlawful activity."On Monday, Tijuana Mayor Juan Manuel Gastélum said although he was "a little bit mad" when people would take their children and put them in a dangerous environment, he did not condone the use of force by the US."I cannot agree on the use of force, not even that type of force that is tear gas or rubber bullets," he said. 2625

Making arts and culture a part of a person's medical treatment could help their long-term health, according to researchers at the University of the Arts in Helsinki, Finland.Researchers at the University say arts and culture in the country are a constitutional right, and that the arts contribute to the health and well-being and society beyond just treating disease and illness.Kai Lehikoinen, a member of the research team, says incorporating arts and culture in treatment allows medical professionals to use more of their own creativity and helps create a more open way of discussing things with a patient."The staff members in hospitals could actually take advantage of their already existing cultural competencies or artistic competencies and bring that into work every day," Lehikoinen said.Lehikoinen says his team developed an outline of more than a dozen recommendations for hospitals to include arts and culture. Some of those recommendations include developing a cultural well-being plan, making arts an culture a strategic core value, hiring a cultural welfare coordinator and keeping records of the cultural needs and wishes of patients."Participation in the arts can enhance the functional capacity of people," Lehikoinen said. "It can prevent loneliness and social exclusion, and has positive impacts on mental health."To describe how the arts can help people of all backgrounds Lehikoinen uses an example of elderly patients who take part in dance therapy. He says it gets them up and moving as much as their body will allow, stimulates their thinking and imagination and gives them a sense of social engagement. 1636

Mardi Gras might look a bit different in 2021.Due to it being a religious holiday, the city cannot cancel Mardi Gras, but celebrating it safely amid the coronavirus pandemic is a different matter.According to the City of New Orleans' Mayor LaToya Cantrell Mardi Gras 2021 FAQ page, there will be zero parades occurring in New Orleans because "large gatherings have proven to be super spreader events of the COVID-19 virus. The official Twitter page of the city's government tweeted that Mardi Gras, which occurs the day before Ash Wednesday, "is different, not canceled.""Mardi Gras is more than just king cakes and beads, it is a religious holiday," the tweet reads. "A season of traditions that we celebrate every year, a time that the community comes together informal, fun, and often unexpected ways." 812

McDonald's announced it's tripling the amount of scholarship money it's offering to its employees to help them get a college degree.Eligible crew members can receive up to ,500 per year and managers can make up to ,000 a year, up from 0 and ,050 respectively. One of the workers who has taken advantage of the program is Jackie Southam from Henderson, Nevada. She's been working at McDonalds for the past 8 years.During that time, she's risen to become a manager, and she's also gotten help from McDonald's to earn a bachelor's degree from Nevada State in biology with a minor in chemistry. With the additional funding increase, she's planning to go back this fall and pursue a master's degree in public health. Her goal is to become an epidemiologist and work for the Centers for Disease Control. She says she's had to pay her entire way through school working two jobs, and the scholarship from McDonald's helped her get through.Right now, UNLV costs around ,100 a semester for state residents, and the College of Southern Nevada is around ,400, plus other costs like books and transportation.McDonald's isn't alone though. Working for several other large companies can also help you get assistance with tuition. Best Buy, Walmart, Verizon, and Bank of America all offer similar types of help.  1333

Mesa Public Schools’ first priority is the safety and security of our students. The behavior and actions of Jamie Tellez while driving a district bus were inexcusable. As soon as we became aware of the incident, we contacted Mesa Police. That evening, the district also reached out to the families of the children on the bus to ensure their well-being. Mesa Police Department is leading the investigation, and we are working cooperatively with them. Please contact Mesa PD for information regarding the incident and investigation. Tellez worked as a bus driver for Mesa Public Schools since September 2018. Tellez has been placed on administrative leave and will be recommended for termination. 702
