SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Friends are grieving the loss of a young man killed in a South Bay crash that also sent five teenagers to the hospital. "This is like a bad dream and I want to wake up," said Ivan Nares.Nares says he got a heart-stopping call from his brother Gustavo, 18, from the emergency room Wednesday morning."He said, 'Ivan, Ivan, I need you. Please come,'" said Nares.RELATED: Driver killed in Otay Mesa SR-905 crash, several others injuredNares rushed to San Diego from his Tijuana home. His brother was a passenger in a Chrysler 300 packed with teens after a night at an indoor trampoline park.The CHP says around 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, the car was headed south on State Route 905 going at a high rate of speed when it hit the center divide near the Beyer Boulevard off-ramp. The 21-year-old driver was thrown from the car and died at the scene.Three males and two females, ranging from 15- to 19-years-old, were rushed to hospitals. Among them was Nares' brother, who suffered a fractured pelvis and two broken legs. He is uninsured. Gustavo is an amateur boxer and a recent graduate of San Ysidro High. He was in the process of applying to college. Instead, he faces a tough road to recovery."The advice give to all the people, especially young people is don't drive like you are in a 'Fast and Furious' movie. Be cautious. You're not just playing with your life. You're messing with other people's lives," Nares said.Nares has yet to tell his brother that his friend died in the crash. He's waiting for the right time. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Homeowners in Mission Hills say someone is back to shining a laser pointer into their homes after a several week hiatusNew video from over the weekend a shows someone pointing a laser into a family’s living room.The laser pointer appears to be coming from the same place as it was back in January when 10News first did the story.Daniel Wang lives in Mission Hills and says his living room turned a blueish green on Friday. “The kids were here so luckily they didn’t look directly at the beam,” said Wang, “that’s the only thing to worry about.”Neighbors have filed a police report, but not much progress has been made because the source of the laser appears to be from a common space in an apartment complex.Doctors say lasers can cause blindness and in some cases induce seizures for those who have epilepsy.Shining a laser into another person’s eyes in California is a misdemeanor with a penalty of up to 30 days in jail. 955

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Four San Diego businesses, including two restaurants and two gyms, have filed a lawsuit seeking an emergency injunction to stop the latest shutdown orders.Under the red tier, both sectors were open for indoor operations as limited capacities. Restaurants were allowed to serve people inside at 25 percent of the normal capacity, and gyms at only 10%.On Saturday, purple tier restrictions will go into effect, meaning businesses like restaurants and gyms must shutdown indoor services completely and move outside.Cowboy Star Restaurant & Butcher Shop, Home & Away Encinitas, Fit Athletic Club, and Bear Republic filed the lawsuit against California Gov. Gavin Newson and the County of San Diego, as well as other state and county officials arguing that the closures go against their rights.The lawsuit states that Newsom and the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) lack the authority to impose the continuing restrictions on California businesses.All four businesses detail the numerous health and safety measures they’ve added to provide a safe environment for staff and customers during this pandemic.“I think it’s pretty clear that the law is on the side of governmental authority to try to get this under control,” said Jan Ronis, an attorney with the Law Offices of Ronis & Ronis. “Why they continue to file lawsuits… it’s beyond me.”Ronis is not involved in this case, but said when the pandemic began, he reviewed emergency legislation available to the government at both state and federal levels.“These laws have been in the book for decades, and governments have used them sparingly, and quite frankly think they’re valid as surprised as I was by the breadth and scope of government authority once these emergency declarations are declared,” said Ronis.He said he had seen similar lawsuits filed across the state during the last several months, and most don’t hold up in court.“I really feel sorry for the businesses, but the fact is this is a monumental health crisis,” said Ronis.Dr. Wilma Wooten, San Diego County’s public health officer, recently asked for the CDPH to allow the county to stay in the red tier. She explained that businesses that would be impacted the most by purple tier restrictions, like restaurants and gyms, are not the cause for the local increase in COVID-19 cases.The lawsuit said despite the data provided by Dr. Wooten, the CDPH still denied the request without any justification based on science or data.Both the law firm that filed the lawsuit and the County of San Diego refused to comment on this matter, stating they do not comment on pending litigation. 2646

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Fire crews battled a small fire that threatened structures in Del Dios Thursday afternoon. According to Cal Fire, the blaze started in the area of Del Dios Highway and Toyon Canyon Road on the west side of Lake Hodges. The fire burned roughly three acres and threatened two structures before fire crews were able to stop the forward rate of spread.
