SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A Pacific Beach gym ordered to close for not adhering to the county's health orders and linked to one community outbreak has reopened.The Gym was forced to close on July 23 for violating public health orders after "the owners/operators of the Gym have acknowledged that they are aware of the Public Health Orders but will not voluntarily comply," according to a copy of the county order. A week after the county ordered the gym to close, a community outbreak was traced back to the fitness center, according to health officials.The county confirmed on Sunday that the gym has been allowed to reopen after altering their facility to be in compliance with health orders requiring that gyms move workouts outdoors. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A Mega Millions ticket sold at a Sorrento Valley convenience store was the only one to match all six numbers for the 0 million jackpot Friday.The winner of the ticket, sold at Sorrento Deli Mart & Liquor on Roselle Street, must now decide how to accept the winnings: 30 installments of the 0 million jackpot or a lump payout of 5.2 million.The winning numbers were 17, 19, 27, 40, 68 and the Mega number was 2. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A man was arrested in connection with the shooting death of a woman in a Mountain View apartment, San Diego police announced Thursday.SDPD officials said officers responded to reports of a shooting inside an apartment unit in the 4500 block of Imperial Avenue at around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.Officers arrived and found a woman, later identified as Emily Cortez, with a gunshot wound in her upper torso. She was located on an upstairs walkway of the apartment complex, SDPD officials said.According to police, a man was providing medical aid as officers and emergency medical crews arrived at the scene.Despite life-saving efforts, Cortez, 19, was declared dead at the scene.During their investigation, SDPD Homicide Unit detectives identified the suspected gunman as 18-year-old Jorge Manuel Sanchez and arrested him in connection with Cortez’s death.SDPD officials said Cortez and Sanchez lived in the apartment where the incident occurred, and the suspect and victim were in a relationship.No other information was released.Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to call the SDPD Homicide Unit at 619-531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 1188

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A non-profit that drives sick kids and their families to the hospital is celebrating one million miles.Climbing into an Emilio Nares Foundation car, mom Latoya Johnson and her 19-year-old daughter Tay Tay started recalling the memories over the last decade. They were one of ENF's first rides. The non-profit was founded in 2003 and began giving rides in August 2005, according to ENF Vice President of Programs Luz Quiroga. The program expanded from San Diego to Orange County in 2009. Rides started in the Imperial Valley in 2015, and expanded again to San Bernardino, Riverside, and South Los Angeles in 2019.The founders lost their son, Emilio, when he was 6 years old to leukemia. During the exhausting hours of treatment, Emilio's parents realized other families didn't have enough support. When Emilio passed, they turned his loss into a legacy.Johnson said Tay Tay was first diagnosed with a tumor the size of a golf ball in her chest when she was 4-and-a-half years old."It was behind her left lung, it was growing attached to her lung," Johnson said. She found it hard to get to doctor's appointments and treatment. 'It was about three buses, two trolleys and a bus on the other side,' Johnson said. The trip took two and a half hours, then they had to walk up a hill to get to Rady Children's Hospital.In the doctor's office she saw a flier for the Emilio Nares Foundation, and they have been getting picked up ever since, shortening their trip to a half-hour door-to-door.Once they kicked the tumor in Tay Tay's chest, they found out when Tay Tay was 15 that she had a brain tumor. "She's 19 years old now, so she literally is a walking blessing, a walking miracle, and I wouldn't trade her for nothing in the world," Johnson said smiling, pinching her daughter's cheek.Johnson said without the foundation she would have been in tears and they absolutely saved her daughter's life.With the foundation celebrating one million miles, Johnson is working on understanding the impact the foundation had not only on their lives, but on 4,000 children."I wanna cry, because I know I'm crying but the tears won't come out because they're all on the inside, but it's amazing. I'm just happy and blessed for you guys," Johnson said hugging CEO Karen Terra.She hopes telling her story will get more families the help they need.ENF kicked off their "Ride with Emilio" campaign Monday and it continues through the end of the month. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A man united families across the United States after digging into a military training crash that happened 50 years ago at MCAS El Toro.Johnathan Keene often visited his cousin's grave at Arlington National Cemetery, "I go up to visit him twice a year, typically Memorial Day and Veteran's Day." On January 15, 2019, he was in the neighborhood, stopped by and it was that day that he noticed Maj. Walter Zytkewicz grave next to his cousin's grave.Maj. Zytkewicz was in the Marines, like his cousin, and died the day before his cousin. He said that 'grabbed' him.Up until that day he knew his cousin, Capt. Robert Walls, died in a military crash, but it wasn't spoken of at the dinner table.He knew there must be a connection to the two men, so he started digging. He found four other Marines were on the same training flight July 30th, 1970. "Major Zytkewicz was 2 months away from retiring," Keene said he was studying to become a realtor.Staff Sergeant Kenneth Davis, 1st Lieutenant Mullins and Corporal Kenneth Metzdorf. Keene said Metzdorf wasn't supporsed to be on the flight, "called his best friend and said hey could you go on this flight for me today? So they switched and that cost him [his life]."Keene tracked down the redacted incident report and filled in the gaps with interviews from witnesses and Marines who knew the men on board."Witnesses say they waited too late to pull the plane out of the angle of attack and the plane hit, bounced, flipped upside down, hit again, bounced in the air, the left wing fell off, all four props fell off. The plane landed right in the middle of the air field. Flames and fuel streamed down the runway, they said it was basically a long stream of fuel and fire," he said.Flames Keene was amazed to learn his cousin and Metzdorf walked through, "the report listed 80%-90% coverage of third degree burns. I can't even imagine how he walked out," he said shocked.Mullins was killed on impact, found 50 yards from the plane with a broken leg. Walls, Zytkewicz and Metzdorf died days later from their injuries.Keene said Walls died from burns in his lungs.SSgt. Davis passed in 2013.The exact cause was redacted in the report. Keene believes the Marine Corps wants to preserve the honor of the pilot and protect his family."After the crash, the material that made up Marine Corps and Navy flight suits was changed. They thought it was a flame retardant material, unfortunately it burned and melted to their skin," he said.Keene hopes these difficult discoveries will fuel Marines' admiration. To keep their memories alive, Keene created a plaque with the team's names that will be presented at MCAS Miramar, where the squadron now resides."Every other Marine that goes through that squadron will see that plaque and realize there's five men that in some way or another touched their lives from either a safety stand-point or history and lineology of VMGR-352," Keene said. 2946
