SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A 59-year-old woman is the sixth person to die from the flu in San Diego County this flu season.The East County woman died on Nov. 23 from influenza B and there was no indication she received a flu shot this season, according to the County Health and Human Services Agency. The woman reportedly had underlying health conditions as well.At this time last flu season, San Diego County had two reported deaths linked to influenza.RELATED: Health officials stress getting vaccinated for the flu ASAPThe county says 203 lab-confirmed flu cases were reported last week, almost double the previous week's total. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - "It's not fair and it's not right," says Warren Peters of Spring Valley. He says he's been watching his son, Jahmes, spend several months fighting for his federal tax return. "People need this money. People have worked for this money. People have earned this money," says 24 year-old Jahmes.The young man tells Team 10 that he filed online in February and received his state refund, but not his federal refund. It's now been more than 7 months. A return summary shows he's owed almost ,200 from the IRS.Jahmes says he's between jobs and burning through his savings. His father tries to help but says he's retired and on a fixed income, so his means are limited."It doesn't feel too good depending on your dad at 24-years-old," Jahmes tells Team 10. Jahmes says he has repeatedly called, emailed and written to the IRS. He adds he was once asked to appear in-person to verify identity, which he says he completed. However, he says his efforts didn't yield clear answers from the IRS.On the IRS website, he showed us what he says is his filing status. "Your tax return is still being processed," is what it reads. "If the circumstances were different, [the IRS] would be knocking on [our] door looking for their money," says Warren Peters. "The IRS is just understaffed and overworked," says tax attorney Ronson Shamoun, CEO of Downtown San Diego's RJS Law Firm. He says long delays are not uncommon. "Yet, after it's been so long, there should be some indication as to what's going on or some sort of game plan as to what you can do."Shamoun says the best route to take is contacting the Taxpayer Advocate Service, which was created by Congress to facilitate aid for taxpayers dealing with related issues. The IRS website reports that most refunds are issued in less than 21 calendar days, but explains there are a number of reasons for delays, including possible errors, incomplete returns, and concerns about identity theft or fraud.  The IRS says it cannot respond to media inquiries about specific cases."He does have a right to be upset. He definitely does," says Shamoun. The Taxpayer Advocate Service can be reached https://taxpayeradvocate.irs.gov/   2371

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A developer is going back to the drawing board after a downtown agency blasted its affordable housing proposal Wednesday. Pinnacle planned to build a 58-unit low-income apartment complex at the corner of 11th and B. It would be attached to a 32-story market rate residential tower. While the buildings would be attached, they would have separate doors, no interior connections, and few shared amenities.Civic San Diego's board of directors rebuked the developer Wednesday. "You want to put us somewhere else," board member Robert Robinson said. "Are we not good enough to get on the top floor and look out at the ocean? That's what the message is here."David Dick, an attorney representing Pinnacle, said that was a misrepresentation of the intent. "It has to do with the realities of construction, cost financing, management and ownership," he said. Dick added that Pinnacle should be lauded for its willingness to fund much-needed affordable housing downtown, as opposed to paying an in-lieu fee that could take years to yield any units. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 37-year-old man was arrested and booked after trying to snatch a toddler from their parent's car outside of a Costco in Vista, according to San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.The incident happened just before 3 p.m. in the parking lot of the store located at 1755 Hacienda Drive.Sheriff's Sgt. Nanette McMasters said a woman, her fiancée, and their two small children were backing out of a parking stall when the suspect opened the rear vehicle door. The suspect attempted to remove the 2-year-old child from the car.The child's parents got out of the car and confronted the suspect, identified as Adam Glavinic."The incident drew a crowd and a physical confrontation occurred between the father and Glavinic," said McMasters.An off-duty sheriff's employee and other witnesses intervened in the confrontation and held the suspect until two deputies from the Vista Sheriff's Station arrived on the scene.Glavinic was arrested for attempted kidnapping and being under the influence of a controlled substance. He was booked into the Vista Detention Facility, according to McMasters.It's unknown at this time if the toddler, the father, or the suspect suffered any injuries during the incident.The incident remains under investigation. 1265

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A burglar squeezed through a doggie door and past a security system at a La Mesa-area home, making off with thousands of dollars in sentimental jewelry.Along Fuerte Drive, David Ward said his heart sank when he got home from running errands around 2 p.m. Wednesday. His eyes were immediately drawn to a back kitchen door."The cover to the dog door was not here .. it was lying on the floor. That's when I knew someone had entered the house," said Ward.RELATED: Map: Track crime in San Diego County neighborhoodsA quick look inside showed what the intruder was after. Some near-empty jewelry boxes were missing about a dozen pieces, most of the items sentimental. "Birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas ... There's a sadness. His dog had passed several weeks earlier. That same day, Ward had taken measurements to have the door blocked off. Instead, it was open.
