(KGTV) -- The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department is bringing attention to a 51-year-old unsolved murder.On May 1, 1967, 14-year-old Nikki Benedict was stabbed and left to die while walking home from her friend’s house in Poway.The family has gone 51-years without knowing what happened to Nikki. Both of her parents died without answers.Tuesday, one of her three surviving sisters was there with detectives bringing the case back up, hoping anyone with helpful information will come forward.An 11-year-old boy found Nikki suffering at 6:30 in the evening on the tragic day. Deputies and medics tried to save Nikki’s life, but she died after arriving at the hospital.When the crime happened, witnesses reported seeing a young man running from the scene. Investigators say almost every teenage boy in Poway was interviewed at the time but detectives found no connection.51-years later no one has yet been arrested for Nikki’s murder. (KGTV) — Poway will host two simultaneous Fourth of July fireworks shows this summer in order to encourage social distancing while continuing the tradition.Fireworks will launch from both Poway High School and Sportsplex in South Poway Business Park at 9 p.m. on July 4, the city says."Keeping these celebrations going is more important than ever," said Poway Mayor Steve Vaus. "They will bring people together in spirit and shine a little bit of light into the darkness we've experienced due to the pandemic, all while we celebrate our nation's founding."The two locations will allow for a nearly 360-degree view of fireworks from the Sportsplex while allowing those who traditionally view the show near the high school to continue doing so.However, there won't be any viewing allowed at Poway High School's football field due to public health orders. Instead, anyone who wants to view the show can purchase a parking pass to watch from across the street at Lake Poway. City officials say a map of the best viewing locations and more information will be posted online here soon.Anyone who heads out to view the shows is reminded to observe social distancing from groups that are not from the same household and wear facial coverings around non-household members. 1285

President Donald Trump has told advisers that Heather Nauert, the State Department spokeswoman, is his leading choice to become U.S. ambassador to the United Nations and he could offer the post as soon as this week, two sources familiar with his pick told CNN.If named, Nauert, who met with Trump Monday, would leave her role at the State Department to take over for Nikki Haley, who surprised White House officials last month when she announced her decision to step down at the end of the year.People close to the President cautioned that his pick is not final until it is formally announced.
