An Idaho junior high school teacher is under investigation after he fed a puppy to a snapping turtle in front of students.Robert Crosland has taught science at Preston Junior High School for years. In a news release, Preston School District 201 Superintendent Marc Gee says his administration became aware of “a regrettable circumstance involving some of the biological specimens” on March 7.“The event occurred well after students had been dismissed and was not a part of any school-directed program,” Gee said in a news release. “We emphasize that at no time was the safety of students or staff compromised.”It’s unclear if the dog was alive or dead when Crosland fed it to the turtle. Administrators began investigating the incident immediately, according to Gee, and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office was contacted. Crosland has not been cited or charged and has not been placed on leave, Gee said.“A part of any investigation includes determining the best course of action once the facts of the matter have been ascertained. This is not a situation that is easy, nor do we feel it is a measure that can be taken lightly,” Gee said.Crosland is a popular teacher who has exotic snakes and other animals in tanks around his classroom, according to multiple parents and students who contacted EastIdahoNews.com. An elephant seal was safely returned to the waters with help from residents in Puerto Cisnes, Chile, and the Chilean Navy on Monday.According to Manuel Novoa, a presenter at Radio Autentica FM, residents of Puerto Cisnes, Chile, were surprised when they spotted an elephant seal roaming their town's streets.In a press release, Puerto Cisnes Police Captain Christian Reyes Jofré said that it's "completely normal" to see the seals outside their natural habitat in that area this time of year."Thanks to the citizens who participated and helped in the safeguarding of the return journey to the sea of the sea elephant that entered the streets of the town," Cpt. An earthquake has rattled southeast Michigan and parts of Canada.According to the USGS, the epicenter of the earthquake was Amherstburg, Canada, which is just on the other side of the Detroit River from Michigan. A small slice of that tough tubing can prevent a shooter from getting into a classroom.Grant Reed of Rural Metro Fire Department showed how to apply the piece of fire hose to a typical door closer, common in many schools."We're gonna slide it right over here, right over this hydraulic arm. The goal is to keep this where it cannot open anymore so it's pretty simple to go on. Just attach it. Once it's slid over the arms makes it a lot more difficult for this door to open." Rural Metro says the sleeves were first used in Kansas. Many schools are beginning to use them.Rural Metro is sharing these security sleeves with the Tanque Verde School District and other districts Rural Metro serves. The Pima County Sheriff's Department was happy to see schools have another way to buy time while deputies rush to take down a shooter.
