SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - As a Hillcrest man showered in his apartment, an intruder was helping himself to a "priceless" pendant.The surveillance video that Ramon Castillo has seen countless times remains hard to watch."Scary and very disturbing," said Castillo.In late June on a Monday morning just before 9, Castillo was showering in his apartment on 3rd Avenue. What he didn't know know: he wasn't alone. When Castillo got out of the shower after 20 minutes, the screen door which had been locked was completely open. Surveillance video revealed why. In it, a man pauses at the door and somehow gets past the screen door, before quietly raiding the apartment. Among the items stolen were speakers and a safe from a bedroom closet. Inside the safe: cash, personal documents and jewelry, including a silver pendant containing the ashes of her mother. She passed away in 2015 from an accidental drug overdose."I can't replace that. It's the last thing of my mom and now I don't have anything," said Castillo.The thief who snatched it was in and out in about five minutes. He was seen driving off in a sedan. Castillo say the burglar had to have heard the shower running and went in anyways."He didn't think twice about it. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - As San Diego County's back country communities brace for the prospect of losing power, political leaders are starting to take aim at the idea of pulling the plug on them.San Diego Gas and Electric has notified upwards of 30,000 customers that it could cut their power Thursday if it deems necessary to prevent a wildfire. At a news conference in San Diego Wednesday, Gov. Gavin Newsom praised SDG&E as a leader in wildfire prevention, but expressed frustration at the situation. He directed most of his anger toward Pacific Gas and Electric, which has cut off power to hundreds of thousands of customers in Northern California to prevent its equipment from starting wildfires. She said the utility is in communication with fire departments and has crews and arborists deployed across the county. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Data obtained by ABC 10News showed there were more than 150 complaints made to 211 involving a Pacific Beach gym’s violations of public health orders.The data regarding The Gym was compiled starting April 8; overall, there were more than 9,300 complaints from that time period involving violations of public health orders throughout San Diego County.Troy Kahle said he and his husband have been members of The Gym, located on 2949 Garnet Ave., for more than 20 years. Kahle is also a COVID-19 survivor, and he said he’s not sure how he contracted the virus.Kahle has not been to The Gym since he went to the hospital. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — City Councilman Scott Sherman's newly announced candidacy will alter the race to become San Diego's next mayor.Sherman, termed out from City Council, is the first household Republican to run to lead America's eighth largest city. Sherman announced he would run just before the Dec. 6 deadline to file for the March 2020 primary. Current Mayor Kevin Faulconer, a Republican, is termed out. In an interview, Sherman said he did not want the mayoral debates to be dominated by two big-name Democrats: State Assemblyman Todd Gloria and City Council President Pro-Tem Barbara Bry.
