SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- County leaders and the American Red Cross are being forced to change fire evacuation plans due to coronavirus.According to a news release, residents under evacuation will now be housed at hotels or motels, or multiple shelters with less than 50 people instead of traditional shelters.The Red Cross says it’s working with nearly 100 lodging businesses to make rooms available during a crisis.“We’re entering the riskiest part of the wildfire season while still being in the middle of an unprecedented health crisis,” said county Supervisor Dianne Jacob. “That is forcing us to rethink and retool our disaster-planning efforts.”The County Office of Emergency Management is also asking people to include face coverings and hand sanitizer in their evacuation kits.“As we head into our warmer months, we need all resources available,” said County Supervisor Jim Desmond. “The question isn’t if, but when. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Two San Diego County schools will receive grant funding from the Jimmie Johnson Foundation, it was announced Friday.The foundation, launched in 2006 by NASCAR driver and El Cajon-native Jimmie Johnson and his wife, Chandra Johnson, plans to award 8,000 in grants to seven public schools in the Johnsons' home states of California and Oklahoma and where they currently live in North Carolina.San Diego's Knox Middle School will receive ,206.37 to improve the school's library and WD Hall Elementary School in El Cajon will receive ,096.71 to add a multi-lingual, digital marquee to the school's campus. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Three people suffered non-life threatening gunshot wounds this morning in the Mount Hope Community of San Diego, a police officer said.A group of people were in the area of Market and Denby streets about 1:45 a.m. when several gunshots were heard and three people were shot, said Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department.A 39-year-old man was shot in the abdomen, a 32-year-old man was shot multiple times in the buttocks and legs and a 30-year-old man suffered a graze wound to his lips, Heims said.All three men were transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening gunshot wounds and police had no suspect information. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - While the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend people stay at home this holiday season to avoid spreading COVID-19, officials at San Diego International Airport released some tips for those who are traveling as this traditional major travel weekend begins.According to the airport guidance, all travelers should practice preventative health measures such as washing hands often, avoiding touching eyes, nose, and mouth, social distancing at least 6 feet from others, covering coughs and sneezes, and monitoring daily health by conducting a temperature check prior to arriving at the airport. The California Department of Public Health requires all individuals to wear a face covering while on airport property. Face coverings are available at airport information desks, concessionaires, and vending machines located in the terminals.Travelers should have a clear understanding of state, local, and territorial governments travel restrictions for wherever they are headed, including testing requirements, stay-at-home orders and quarantine requirements.Airlines have implemented COVID-19 health and safety measures for check in, boarding, and while on the plane. Passengers should understand the expectations of the specific airline they are using prior to arriving at the airport.Transportation Security Administration security checkpoints are open and all passengers are required to go through screening. The San Diego Airport Authority encourages travelers to leave ample time, preferably two hours, to get through security and to their gate.Rental Car Center buses require social distancing and therefore are running at reduced capacity. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - With one of the largest holidays of the year just a day away, getting around and conducting business before and on the holiday can be tricky to navigate with what is closed and open.The North County Transit District will have a normal service schedule for Christmas Eve. However, the Amtrak R2R partnership with NCTD -- which allows Coaster customers to travel on Amtrak trains in the San Diego area -- will be blacked out through Monday. During this time, all Amtrak Pacific Surfliner customers will be required to show a valid Amtrak fare and no COASTER passes will be accepted.NCTD schedules will be reduced to a Sunday service schedule on Christmas.The San Diego Metropolitan Transit System will run a similar schedule, with normal weekday hours Christmas Eve on all Trolley lines and MTS local, urban, Express, Rapid and Rapid Express bus routes.Christmas is more complicated. All Trolley lines except the Silver Line will operate on a half-hour frequency on Christmas Day. Rapid, urban, and local bus routes will operate on a Sunday schedule.No service will be provided on Rapid Express routes 280 or 290, Rapid routes 204, 237 and Express routes 50, 60, 110, 150, Sorrento Valley Coaster Connection and most express bus routes.
