Ten female Mcdonald's current and former employees have filed sexual harassment complaints against the company over the past week. One worker in Chicago said that a McDonald's supervisor at the franchise store retaliated against her by reducing her hours when she reported instances of sexual harassment by management. Another Chicago worker at a franchise said she was fired soon after reporting that a manager had made sexually explicit comments to her.A third individual in St. Louis, who is 15 years old, said she was repeatedly harassed by an older employee every Sunday for two months. The employee commented on her appearance and sexually propositioned her, she said. The employee added that reports of the incidents were not taken seriously by a superior at the company-owned store, and the harassment did not end until she stopped working on Sundays.A 20-year-old woman in Durham, North Carolina, said that she was sexually harassed by co-workers and supervisors. She also said she was subjected to a hostile work environment at the company-owned store because she is black. The woman said she was made fun of by colleagues after reporting the behaviors and she eventually stopped turning to management. The complaints were filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in seven states, including Michigan, Florida and Louisiana. Most of the incidents were alleged to have occurred over the past two years.McDonald's said in a statement on Tuesday the company takes sexual harassment allegations "very seriously.""At McDonald's Corporation, we are and have been committed to a culture that fosters the respectful treatment of everyone. There is no place for harassment and discrimination of any kind in our workplace. McDonald's Corporation takes allegations of sexual harassment very seriously and are confident our independent franchisees who own and operate approximately 90 percent of our 14,000 U.S. restaurants will do the same," the statement said.Lawyers from Altshuler Berzon and Outten & Golden LLP are representing the employees, with funding from TIME'S UP Legal Defense Fund, which is administered by the National Women's Law Center Fund.Sharyn Tejani, director of the Legal Defense Fund, said in a statement, "we hope to help ensure that these charges will be a catalyst for significant change."The advocacy group Fight for announced the complaints on Tuesday."With support from the TIME'S UP Legal Defense Fund, workers in the Fight for now have a powerful ally in our ongoing effort to make McDonald's restaurants safe places for all workers," said McDonald's employee Adriana Alvarez, who is also a member of the Fight for 's national organizing committee.Fight for has set up a hotline for McDonald's employees who want to have their allegations reviewed by lawyers. 2827

State of Nevada “thinks” that they can send out illegal vote by mail ballots, creating a great Voter Fraud scenario for the State and the U.S. They can’t! If they do, “I think” I can hold up funds to the State. Sorry, but you must not cheat in elections. @RussVought45 @USTreasury— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) May 20, 2020 337

That leased car gathering dust in your driveway might have hidden cash in it.Dealers facing tight inventories are scrambling to buy good used cars to resell. They might be willing to purchase your leased car for more than the buyout price in your contract.“I haven’t seen used car prices go up this much in years,” says Oren Weintraub, president of car concierge service Authority Auto. “We are seeing a large percentage or leases with equity in them.”With the pandemic reshaping the car business, experts recommend extracting that equity by selling the car outright, using it to offset the cost of returning the car or leveraging that value to make a better deal on your next car.Where does the equity come from?Your lease payment is based on the residual value of your vehicle. This is a prediction of the car’s value at the end of the lease which, because of the pandemic, is now often too low. This means you might be able to arrange to sell the car for the higher price, pay off the lease and then pocket the difference. It also means you could dodge over-mileage penalties or end the lease early. For example, Scot Hall of the lease-trading site Swapalease said his wife has been working from home during the pandemic and decided she didn’t need her leased 2017 GMC Yukon Denali XL. She ended her lease six months early — saving the remaining monthly payments — and sold her SUV to a local dealer, pocketing a check for ,500.Know where you standHere’s how to know if you have equity in your leased car:Find the residual value in your lease contract. This is the amount you can buy the car for at the end of the lease (there might also be a disposition fee for this transaction).Get today’s buyout price. If you want to end your lease early, call the lease holder and ask for a current buyout price. Hall says you can usually estimate this price by simply adding the total of all the remaining payments to the residual value.Look up the current market value. Use an online pricing guide, such as Edmunds.com, to find the trade-in value of your car, factoring in the current mileage, options and condition. If you’re thinking of selling your car to a neighbor, look for the private party price. Or you can get a nearly instant cash offer from a local dealer, Carmax or an online car retailer such as Carvana, Shift or Vroom. Give real-world offers more weight in your calculations.Do the math. Subtract the residual value from the current market price or cash offer. This is an estimate of how much equity you have in the car and how much money you could make on the deal.Find opportunity in a volatile marketOnce you know if you are in a positive equity position, you can explore different ways to use this potential value. Here are options to consider:Buy the car yourself. If you do this, you’re essentially getting a good used car at below-market price. Also, you know the history of your car, so there are no surprises. Many lenders that refinance auto loans also offer lease buyouts.Sell your leased car privately. In many states, you can buy the car and transfer it to a new owner within a certain number of days without paying sales tax yourself. Be sure to check with the DMV in your state before you make a deal.Trade in the car to a dealer. If you decide you want another car, you could sell your leased car outright first and then plunk down the cash on the new ride. But trading it in could save you a considerable amount of sales tax.Sell your vehicle to an online service or a local dealer. Carvana, Shift and Vroom will pick up the vehicle and do all the paperwork. However, Carvana says it will not accept leased cars as trade-ins.Return your lease without penaltiesKnowing there is equity in your car puts you in a stronger position when you return your leased vehicle. For example, Weintraub had a client who was ready to return a leased car with excess mileage and minor body damage. Because of the equity in the vehicle, Weintraub convinced the dealer to waive the 0 disposition fee, the excess mileage penalty and wear and tear charges.Should you be facing those kinds of costs as the end of your lease approaches, the time spent getting buyout offers is not only a bargaining tool, but it also offers other options to try if the leasing company doesn’t play ball.More From NerdWalletClass of 2019 Borrowed Less, Report FindsHow to Handle College Loan Debt as an Unemployed Recent GradMore Grads Are Going Back to School: Should You?Philip Reed is a writer at NerdWallet. Taylor Swift did something bad for the opening of the 2018 American Music Awards Tuesday night. The singer, who just wrapped the North American leg of her "Reputation" tour, kicked off the show with her single, "I Did Something Bad."Dressed in a sequined one-piece, Swift strutted the stage with her dancers to the delight of the audience. And, of course, there was a giant snake -- an emblem Swift has made her own after #TaylorSwiftIsASnake became a thing a few years ago as a diss against the singer.Tuesday marked Swift's first live awards show performance in three years. The superstar made headlines in recent days after she endorsed Tennessee Democrats Phil Bredesen and Jim Cooper and encouraged her followers to register to vote.Swift said that while she had been "reluctant" to voice her political opinions in the past, "due to several events in my life and in the world in the past two years, I feel very differently about that now.""I always have and always will cast my vote based on which candidate will protect and fight for the human rights I believe we all deserve in this country," Swift said. "I believe in the fight for LGBTQ rights, and that any form of discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender is WRONG. "Vote.org?reported that voter registration spiked after Swift's posting. 1320

The Barron County Sheriff said the possible sighting of a missing and endangered Wisconsin teen in Miami, Florida doesn't appear to be credible. An AMBER Alert was issued Monday afternoon for 13-year-old Jayme Closs after her parents were found dead in their home. Gas station surveillance video from Miami shows the girl a witness thought to be Jayme. The FBI has yet to confirm it was. Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald indicated Tuesday it isn't credible. A witness claims to have seen Jayme inside this black SUV with Wisconsin plates Monday afternoon at a Miami gas station. That's 1,700 miles away from where Jayme's last confirmed sighting Sunday afternoon in her hometown. Surveillance video briefly shows a teenage girl sitting in the front passenger seat as the driver pulled up to a gas pump. She doesn't appear to be restrained at the time. Moments before, a man got out of that same vehicle and walked up to another SUV and a truck to talk with others. Miami police shared the possible sighting via social media on Monday night. "We are actively researching that tip," said Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald appeared frustrated at news conference Tuesday that Miami police released information about a possible tip. "Every tip continues to be followed up on and if it's something we need to get out to you, you will get that information and it will come directly from me out to you," Fitzgerald said. Authorities were first alerted to Jayme's disappearance early Monday morning when a 911 call led sheriff's deputies to her home in Barron. Jayme's parents were found shot to death. Fitzgerald is asking Barron County residents to keep an eye out for others acting out of character. He said they've questioned a lot of people while following up on tips, however Jayme is still believed to be missing and in danger. 1883
