It’s Saturday night service at Northview Church in Carmel, Indiana. As parishioners pack the pews, they start singing about the power of giving. Preaching from the pulpit, senior pastor Steve Poe focuses the night’s sermon on how small donations can have a big impacts.This Indiana-based church is truly helping their neighbors in need! Members of this congregation raised ,000 in donations and used that money to help pay off more than .6 million of medical debt for Indiana citizens.“That will have an impact on 2,500 people or more,” says Poe.With Poe's church buying 30 percent of all medical debt in seven different zip codes across greater Indiana, the pastor says this is financial rehabilitation through religion. In a few weeks, the families whose debts will be covered will receive letters. “What that does then, it will notify their creditors that their debt has been cleared, which gives them the opportunity to start again without this damaging debt," Poe says. "Without this debt hanging over their heads."Northview Church worked with the organization RIP Medical Debt to purchase debt at pennies on the dollar. Founder Craig Antico explains how it works, and why they don’t know the names of the people that they’ve helped. “RIP Medical Debt abolishes medical debt for the poor and those in hardship,” Antico says. “The way that we do it is we go and buy medical debt from either hospitals, doctors, or even the collector investors to buy the debt to make them nonprofit.”A study in the American Journal of Public Health found that medical debt contributes to two-thirds of bankruptcy filings. So, debt relief like this can be life changing. “I could not come up with any words; I was so caught off guard,” says Lisa Sole, who is a recipient of a Northview Church donation. Sole used ,500 dollars to cover medical bills and other debt.“When you are granted the gift of debt being taken away from you, the amount of stress that it relieves off of your body is so healing,” she says.With that kind of healing, Sole was inspired to pass it on and pay it forward, saying it’s truly better to give than receive. “It’s exciting to see the next person’s acceptance and how they’re excited compared to us and the feeling you get,” she says. 2266

Kaylie Kempsell takes photos of babies for a living. “They’re really my passion. Newborns are what drives me,” Kempsell said.As a former NICU nurse, Kaylie knows the best practices when handling a newborn. She’s a pro in more ways than one. However, with more amateur photographers taking on newborn photography, Kempsell says everyone involved needs to be aware of the potential risks a baby can face.“There are a lot of things that go into newborn photography that the average person may not realize,” Kempsell said.According to NICU Neonatologist Dr. Susan Hwang with Children’s Hospital Colorado, it’s important to make sure the infant is breathing comfortably.“They are at risk of blocking off their airway if they happen to drop their heads and/or if there’s something placed in front of their nose or mouth from which they’re unable to shift their head position to allow them to get enough air during that photo session,” Dr. Hwang said.You’ll also want to make sure the baby’s body temperature is well regulated. If the baby is wrapped in too many blankets, it could get too warm.“Similarly, a baby shouldn’t be too cold, so if the air conditioning is ramped up during your photo session, the baby should have an additional layer.”And then of course, if the baby is on a surface above the ground, he or she should be watched at all times. Especially since babies can easily startle.“Often times in newborn photography, you notice that babies are on baskets or tables or are surrounded by other objects. You have to make sure the baby is secure and is not going to roll off,” Dr. Hwang said.Kempsell says she also makes sure there aren’t any tripping hazards, and if she’s using a prop, she thinks through potential hazards like splinters or lead paint. What many may not realize is that a lot of the unique poses newborn photographers achieve are done with photoshop.“During one photo we have an assistant holding the baby above their head like this on the top, and during another photo we have somebody holding the baby underneath their chin, usually by their wrists,” Kempsell said.In addition to her experience in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Kempsell has a certification for newborn photography safety. However, no overarching organization requires it.“So anybody can pick up a camera and start taking newborn photos and start charging for them,” Kempsell said.That’s why it’s good to look for photographers who have gone through some training.Stephanie Robin is the co-creator of APNPI. The organization started offering training courses for newborn photographers in 2017. “Our initiative is to educate photographers primarily in safely handling newborns,” Robin said.The safety course covers newborn physiology, newborn reflexes, safe environments for studio setting and how to handle birth injuries or pre-existing diagnoses. She thought to create the educational tool after noticing as a newborn photographer herself that babies could be placed in dangerous scenarios.“They’re human beings, and they’re actually in their most vulnerable state,” Robin said.To become an active member of the organization, you have to pass the course and the exam that follows. However, Robin notes it’s really only the complex poses to be concerned about. KENSINGTON, N.H. – A father in New Hampshire killed a coyote with his bare hands after it attacked his young child on a trail Monday, according to the Kensington Police Department. Before that attack, police say they received a report of the coyote attacking a vehicle on Drinkwater Road in Hampton Falls at about 8:40 a.m. Shortly after, police say a 62-year-old woman on Hemlock Road reported that she and her dogs were attacked by a coyote.“The coyote was on her three-season porch and her two dogs had opened the sliding door and were attacked by the coyote,” wrote the department. “The two dogs retreated back into the house and the coyote attempted to get into the house. While the homeowner was fighting to keep the coyote out of the house, she was bitten.”The homeowner was treated at an area hospital and received the first series of rabies shots. She will return later in the week for a second set of shots. Her dogs were also treated. Then at about 11 a.m., police say that same coyote attacked a family walking on a trail in Exeter.
