Walmart just unveiled a new online shop for officially licensed military-branded products. The company said the showcase features about 3,000 items emblazoned with logos from the five branches of the U.S. military -- Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard. The items include a "Air Force Dad" T-shirt, a Marines dartboard, and a Coast Guard toy helicopter. The Walmart collaboration aims "to build brand awareness and create multiple touch points for Americans to show support to the U.S. Army," according to a statement from Paul Jensen, the U.S. Army's director of trademark licensing.Walmart says each military branch has approved the suppliers, and the licensing deals mean that the military will collect royalty payments on all of the sales. The company says it expects to add more products as additional vendors apply."As a 31-year U.S. Army veteran I'm proud to wear my Army gear, and I'm thrilled that Walmart is providing a way for all of us to shop for officially licensed military merchandise with confidence and convenience," retired Brigadier General Gary Profit, Walmart's senior director of military programs, said in a statement.Walmart says the "showcase builds upon Walmart's already-robust support for veterans," the cornerstone of which is the company's promise to hire 250,000 veterans between 2013 and the end of 2020. Walmart said Friday that it's just 62,000 shy of reaching that goal. 1438

VISTA (CNS and KGTV) - A man accused of killing his 7-year-old daughter at the family's Oceanside home pleaded not guilty Tuesday to murder, assault and child cruelty charges.Pedro Araujo, 27, is charged in last Wednesday's slaying of Mariah Araujo. Police have not commented on the cause of her death, but the criminal complaint indicates that a knife was used.Mariah was stabbed at least 10 times in the neck and upper body, prosecutors said. She also had defensive wounds from the attack. In addition to murder, the defendant is charged with assault on a child in regard to Mariah, and misdemeanor child cruelty involving her 6-year- old sister.RELATED: 7-year-old found dead in Oceanside home, father arrestedHe faces 26 years to life in prison if convicted of all charges. The children's grandmother made an emergency call shortly after 11 a.m. to report that she had just gone to the family's house in the 3500 block of Las Vegas Drive to pick up Mariah and her sister but had been unable to find the older girl, Oceanside police spokesman Tom Bussey said. The woman reported that her son -- the girls' father -- had been evasive about the whereabouts of his elder daughter and had blood on him, Bussey said.Officers went to the residence near Emerald Isle Golf Course and searched it, finding the victim's body in a bathroom. Detectives questioned Araujo and took him into custody on suspicion of murdering his daughter, Bussey said.Araujo's arraignment was initially scheduled for last Friday, but was postponed twice because he was being held in ``enhanced observation housing,'' according to court staff.Members of the girl's family gathered at the Vista courthouse last Friday and told reporters that Araujo was unstable and should not have been anywhere near his daughters.Karina Avina, Mariah's aunt, said Araujo did not have custody of the children as numerous Child Protective Services cases were open and ongoing against him, though the circumstances of those cases was unclear.``We want him to pay the max. That's what we want,'' Avina said. ``We don't want a few years. We don't want him to get out. He needs to pay his whole life.''Araujo is being held without bail. He's next due at the Vista courthouse on Aug. 14 for a readiness conference. 2267
Walmart is making its opioid policy more strict, limiting the duration of such prescriptions and requiring that they be filled electronically. The company announced on Monday that within 60 days, it will only fill first-time acute opioid prescriptions for seven days or less nationwide, and it will limit the dosage to 50 morphine milligram equivalents, or MMEs, per day. The CDC publishes?MME conversion guides to help pharmacists figure out the right dosage for each type of prescribed opioid. There are more than 5,300 Walmart and Sam's Club locations in the United States. The new restrictions follow recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. A CDC study found that people who were prescribed at least one day of opioid therapy had a 6% chance of being addicted a year later — but for those prescribed eight or more days of treatment saw that chance spiked to 13.5%. The CDC also notes that patients who are prescribed higher dosages are more likely to die from an overdose. Some states already limit prescriptions to seven days or fewer. Walmart will go by state law when the cap is lower than one week.Walmart also said that starting in 2020, it will require e-prescriptions for controlled substances. The company explained that online prescriptions will help prevent prescription fraud and minimize error. The new measures are an extension of Walmart's efforts to fight the US opioid epidemic. In January, the company introduced a way to safely destroy leftover opioids at home. DisposeRx is a powder that, when combined with water and the pills, creates a gel that is difficult to remove from its container. The mixture can be thrown out at home or left at a drop off location. The company said on Monday that it will make DisposeRx available online.Plus, Walmart and Sam's Club pharmacists will continue to recommend the anti-overdose drug naloxone, which is available over the counter in some states, to customers who may be at risk of an overdose. They will complete a pain management curriculum by the end of August.Other companies are making similar efforts to help fight the epidemic.Aetna started waiving co-pays for the anti-overdose drug Narcan, a branded version of the naloxone nasal spray, and limiting first-time opioid prescriptions to seven days in January. And CVS Caremark, the prescription benefit manager for CVS Health, began capping first-time prescriptions at seven days in February.Purdue Pharma, which makes the opioid OxyContin, said in February that it will stop promoting the addictive painkiller to doctors. The CDC said in March that more than 63,000 Americans died of a drug overdose in 2016, and that nearly two-thirds of those overdoses involved either a prescription or illegal opioid, like heroin and fentanyl. 2830
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump appears to have acknowledged for the first time that Joe Biden won the White House election. But Trump is making clear he's not conceding and will keep trying to overturn the result. Trump’s statements come in tweets that include several baseless claims about the Nov. 3 election, which state and federal officials say was safe and secure. Without using Biden's name, Trump tweets that “he won,” something Trump hasn't said before publicly. But Trump says the Democrat’s victory was only “in the eyes” of the media. There has been no widespread fraud in the 2020 election. Election officials from both political parties have stated publicly that the election went well and international observers confirmed there were no serious irregularities. 793
