SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A former San Diego resident was extradited back to the U.S. to face terrorism charges in federal court.Abdullahi Ahmed Abdullahi, a 34-year-old Canadian national, appeared in court Friday on charges that he conspired with several other Canadian and U.S. citizens to provide material support to terrorists in Syria.Prosecutors said Douglas McCain, known as the first American to die fighting for the Islamic State in 2014, was among those Abdullahi conspired with between 2013 and 2014.Prosecutors say Abdullahi and co-conspirators provided personnel and money to individuals engaged in terrorist activities in Syria, including the killing, kidnapping, and maiming of persons. Officials added that Abdullahi facilitated the travel of at least three Canadian nationals and two U.S. citizens to Syria to join and fight with ISIS.Those individuals were reportedly later killed fighting for ISIS.As part of their plans to provide financial support, Abdullahi's co-conspirators encouraged others to commit crimes, such as theft, prosecutors say. Abdullahi is charged with committing an armed robbery at a jewelry store in Canada to finance travel."Terrorist networks like ISIS cannot exist without supporters," said U.S. attorney Robert Brewer. "Protecting Americans from terrorists is our highest priority, and we will work hard to bring justice to those who provide material support to foreign terror organizations."Abdullahi was detained and deemed a flight risk and danger to the community following his hearing Friday. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A 9-year old in Ocean Beach is using his lemonade stand to help others.Dylan Rodriguez sets up his lemonade stand on Bacon Street every Wednesday near the OB Farmer's Market. Initially, he wanted to make some money for himself."He wanted to raise a 0 bill," says his mother, Holly Raines.But after accomplishing that goal, his efforts became more altruistic."It feels nice helping somebody out, because, if I was in that position, I would like a lot of help too," says Dylan.Over the past three years, he's used some of the money from the lemonade stand to pay for a handful of charitable projects. He's given backpacks of supplies to the homeless, bought art supplies for kids at Rady's Childrens Hospital and bought holiday presents for refugee families."It makes me satisfied knowing that he's got a giant heart," says Raines.Recently, Dylan's giving has become more personal. One of his friends was diagnosed with a form of Muscular Dystrophy. Dylan decided to help with payments for his treatments."He needs a lot of money for each treatment," says Dylan. "It's, like, ,000 each time. So I'm trying to raise money for him."In June, Dylan was able to give his friend 0. He says he'll keep giving his lemonade money to his friend indefinitely."I'd like to give him ,000," says Dylan. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A Clairemont man convicted of stabbing his mother to death was sentenced to 26 years to life in prison Friday.Joseph Robert Burks, 31, was convicted in June of first-degree murder in the July 24, 2017, slaying of his 58-year-old mother, Angela Burks, who was a longtime Otay Ranch High School science teacher.Police say Burks used a stun gun to incapacitate his mother, before stabbing her more than 20 times in the head, neck, and throat at the home they shared.RELATED: 499

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Clairemont neighborhood woke up Thursday to a police raid, one week after surveillance video captured a gun battle in the exact same area. A damaged front door was left behind after a police action early in the morning. Just before 7 a.m., a surveillance camera captured officers arriving on Batista Street. They line up in front of a two-story home, before executing a search warrant there."So unusual. Don't remember anything like this in recent memory," said Gail Martin, who has lived in the neighborhood for more than 30 years. For neighbors, the bizarre events began last Friday. Doorbell video shows a speeding black truck turning onto a street past a sedan, which then begins to move. In the next video, the truck is stopped on the street. Not far away, someone emerges from the passenger side of the car and starts firing a handgun. After about six shots are exchanged. The car then backs up and peels out. Another surveillance camera shows the truck racing out of the area.Evidence markers revealed a scene resembling the Wild West. Did other clues lead to the nearby home? Neighbors tell 10news a lot of young people are seen coming in and out at all hours."A lot of partying, a lot of drinking. Yelling and fighting ... not very common for this neighborhood," said Eric Jacobs. On this morning, the activity was narcotics officers swarming the home. The search of the house lasted more than an hour-and-a-half. When it wrapped up, a young man was handcuffed and taken into custody. A SDPD spokesperon confirmed a search warrant was completed by narcotics officers but said detectives have yet to make a link to the shooting. 1665

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 25-year-old was arrested Wednesday following an officer-involved shooting sparked by a chase late Saturday night. According to police, Alfonso Flores, 25, was arrested and charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, one count of evading and one count of possession of a stolen vehicle. Officers tried to pull over a Ford F-150 that was reported stolen around 10:30 p.m. Saturday on the 1900 block of Dairy Mart Road.Police say the driver didn’t stop, instead driving into a cul-de-sac, making a u-turn and driving toward officers.RELATED: Chase leads to officer-involved shooting in Imperial Beach“Believing his partner was going to be run over, one officer fired his service weapon to defend the other officer,” police said in a news release.At some point during the pursuit, police say Flores threw a handgun out of the truck.RELATED: One shot, killed at Linda Vista recreation centerThe suspect eventually stopped on the 1200 block of Holly Avenue in Imperial Beach and ran away from the scene with a female passenger.Police say the officer who fired at the suspect is a three-year veteran of the department.
