SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Unified School District turned off drinking water at three schools Friday after test results showed elevated levels of lead.In a letter to parents, the district said lead levels above the district's 5 parts per billion (ppb) standard were discovered in fountains at Encanto and Birney Elementary schools. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- SeaWorld’s rescue team is in full swing, rescuing more than 150 animals and birds so far this year. More than 80 marine mammals and over 75 birds have so far been rescued in 2019, with the goal of rehabilitating and returning them to their homes, SeaWorld says. On April 2, the team rescued a 10-month-old sea lion pup with a two-inch cut on its flipper from a coastal rock in Ocean Beach. After being treated, the team hopes to return him to the wild in six to eight weeks. Wednesday, the team also returned 13 rehabilitated sea lions to the ocean. SeaWorld San Diego has rescued more than 20,000 animals over the last 55 years, according to a news release. 687

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Small Business Administration Administrator Jovita Carranza visited San Diego to check on America's investment in small businesses."Being here in San Diego and very vibrant market and thousands and thousands of small businesses benefited from the Paycheck Protection Program," Carranza said.One of those businesses is VetPowered and their non-profit Workshops for Warriors, which trains veterans in manufacturing. The company launched in 2008.More than 750 veterans have graduated and 95% of them have been placed in permanent jobs. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Several Californians are suing a state senator for blocking them on his Twitter page, a lawsuit which could impact how all members of the public are allowed to interact with their elected officials.The lawsuit alleges that Dr. Richard Pan (D-Sacramento) violated the rights of several people when he blocked them. Pan is the senator who wrote the 2015 California law that requires children to get vaccinated before going to school.Those who are suing Pan are advocates against vaccination. Pan and other lawmakers argue that people should not be allowed to post or comment what he considers to be false and misleading claims about the safety of vaccination on his page, which he says helps spread dangerous information.RELATED: DOJ to appeal ruling that Trump cannot block social media usersBut others argue that the social media pages of elected officials are public forums, therefore open to everyone with speech protected by the first amendment. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Seven patients from Rady Children’s Hospital took a break from their treatment and got in the water with Bottlenose dolphins.SeaWorld trainer Jorge Villa hosted the children for the experience. Villa holds a special place in his heart for Rady Children’s because he was treated there when he was diagnosed with Diabetes at the age of 12.For many of the children, it’s therapeutic and offers them a chance to forget about whatever health challenges they face and focus on being a kid.“It just brings you into the playful childishness that you have in your heart and in your mind,” said Juliana Abraham, 14. She’s been fighting a rare form of brain cancer.  Her mom says faith, prayer, and a positive attitude have helped Juliana persevere.Rady has been offering the dolphin interaction program to patients since 2008. It was first inspired by SeaWorld dolphin trainer and cancer survivor Joy Clausen-Soto.For more information on the program, contact Rady Children’s Hospital at 858-576-1700. 1038
