SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A pursuit sparked an officer-involved shooting in Imperial Beach late Saturday night. According to police, officers tried to pull over a Ford F-150 that was reported stolen around 10:30 p.m. Saturday on the 1900 block of Dairy Mart Road. Police say the driver didn’t stop, instead driving into a cul-de-sac, making a u-turn and driving toward officers. “Believing his partner was going to be run over, one officer fired his service weapon to defend the other officer,” police said in a news release. At some point during the pursuit, the suspect threw a handgun out of the truck. RELATED: One shot, killed at Linda Vista recreation centerThe suspect eventually stopped on the 1200 block of Holly Avenue in Imperial Beach and ran away from the scene with a female passenger. The woman has since been located while police continue to search for the suspect. Homicide detectives have been called to investigate due to an officer firing his weapon, police say. It’s unclear whether or not the suspect was hit. Police say the officer who fired at the suspect is a three-year veteran of the department. No officers were injured. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Harley-Davidson owner is hoping for leads after his motorcycle disappeared from a mall parking lot in Mission Valley.Sebastian Rudi, who works at Westfield Mission Valley, was expecting to see his newly purchased 2002 Harley after his shift ended around 10 p.m. Saturday. Instead the bike that was parked in the underground lot, feet from the ramp into the mall, was gone."A little panic ... mixture of anger and pure disappointment," said Rudi.MAP: Track crime happening in your neighborhoodThat may actually an understatement. The ,000 bike he bought in April was his pride and joy."I spent my entire life wanting a Harley. Spent every cent to my name on a Harley. Everything that I had going for me was pretty much relying on that bike and now it's gone," said Rudi.Gone and with few clues. He says the few cameras in the area don't face where his bike was parked. According to Crimemapping.com, it's the second vehicle theft since January.At Fashion Valley mall, there have been 11 vehicle thefts in the immediate area since December. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A man who was injured in a fire above a business near Belmont Park in Mission Beach has died.The San Diego County Medical Examiner's office announced the death of 36-year-old Aaron Porter, Wednesday evening.For the last 20 years, Richard Ghozul has worked at Kojack's Greek and American Food, and has lived in the upstairs apartment. Tuesday morning at around 6 AM, the 70-year-old was fast asleep until flames began crackling above his ceiling. “My apartment [is] gone, everything," Ghozul said. With the help of a lifeguard who ran into the apartments, Ghozul barely made it out alive. But Aaron Porter, the man who just moved in next door, did not. According to the County Medical Examiner, Aaron Porter died at UCSD Medical Center after suffering major thermal injuries.“He is always busy. He works on the fishing boat," Ghozul remembered of Porter. “I’m very sad for him.  Too much smoke happened to him.”Early mornings and late nights, Porter worked at Aztec Sportfishing. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A large crowd held a rally against a reopening rollback and another indoor closure Tuesday.The rally took place outside the steps of the County Administration building around 4 pm.The County has been on the cusp of moving into the most restrictive tier in the Governor's safe reopening plan. If that happens, many businesses would be required to close their indoor operations.Many at the rally pushed for local control. They say local leaders should be able to call the shots to reopen their communities safely.County Board Vice-Chair Jim Desmond spoke at the rally.The Board held a special meeting and closed session Monday evening.Board Chairman Greg Cox released the following statement after the meeting:"Tonight, our Board of Supervisors met in a special closed session and discussed our legal options regarding the State's reopening criteria and the effect on local businesses and schools. The Board did not vote on any actions. We will continue to work with the State to make sure the metrics accurately reflect the underlying dynamics of the pandemic in San Diego County. The Board will meet again tomorrow at 3:00 pm to provide an update to the public." 1189

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A judge is expected to decide whether to release a sexually violent predator into the Jacumba Hot Springs area.Joseph Bocklett, a convicted repeat sex offender, had a placement hearing Monday morning. Because of COVID-19 restrictions, it was held virtually. ABC 10News wasn’t given permission to record it, but we did monitor what happened inside of the courtroom.The Department of State Hospitals wants to put the 75-year-old Bocklett in a home in Jacumba -- after a Judge denied a proposal to move him into a home in Pauma Valley.Bocklett was convicted of three sexual offenses over a 19-year period involving victims between the ages of 4 and 9, according to the San Diego County District Attorney's Office. He was last sentenced in 2000 to a 17-year prison term and later civilly committed to Coalinga State Hospital to undergo treatment.Though the public wasn’t allowed to physically be inside of he courtroom, they’ve been working to make sure their voices are heard, protesting this recommendation.They have got pages of signatures from residents in the East County. A few of them gathered near the courthouse holding signs expressing their concerns about the possibility of another sex offender being placed in their community.Among that group Melissa Woodall and her daughter. Woodall said rural East County shouldn’t always be the first choice when it comes to placing sexually violent predators.Woodall said, "It’s awful, it really is. There are so many people who have been put into our community who are predators.”The judge says he’ll take a few days to review the letter that were submitted and the testimony that was given before he makes his decision. 1696
