TEMPLE, Texas — Temple police want to know who threw a rock off a railroad overpass Saturday night, resulting in the death of a 33-year old woman in Texas.Investigators say it happened just before 9 p.m. Saturday night as Keila Ruby Flores and her family of five traveled northbound on Interstate 35 between exits 303 and 305 in Texas.Police say someone threw a rock from the overpass to the interstate below, hitting Flores' car, breaking the windshield and hitting Flores, who sat in the front passenger seat.Officers responded to an unknown injury call near the 2600 block of I-35 and Belair Drive where they found Flores and her family.Paramedics took Flores to Baylor, Scott and White Hospital, where she died of her injuries at 10:32 a.m. on Sunday. An autopsy will determine her exact cause of death.Detectives have no information on a suspect and ask anyone who may have seen anything to call Temple police, or Bell County Crime Stoppers. 959

The Council on American-Islamic Relations condemned comments made by President Donald Trump's at a rally on Thursday in Minneapolis about the state of Minnesota's Somali population as "racist."The comments that drew the ire of the group that advocates for Muslims in America: "Leaders in Washington brought large numbers of refugees to your state from Somalia without considering the impact on schools and communities and taxpayers. We will always protect American families first," Trump said to jeers from the crowd.Estimates place the Somali population around 50,000 in the Minneapolis area. Among the Somali-Americans residing in the Minneapolis area is Rep. Illhan Omar, a first-term Democrat. Omar has been a frequent target of Trump and his supporters. At previous rallies, the crowd has chanted "Send Her Back."“How the hell did that ever happen?” Trump said about Omar's election. “Congresswoman Omar is an America-hating socialist.”"President Trump's hate rhetoric places the entire Somali community in Minnesota and nationwide in danger from the growing white supremacist movement that looks to him for validation and encouragement," said CAIR's state of Minnesota Executive Director Jaylani Hussein. 1222

The Boy Scouts of America on Tuesday said it has referred about 120 allegations of abuse by scout leaders to law enforcement for further investigation, saying it believes victims and that the youth organization is working to identify "additional alleged perpetrators.""We care deeply about all victims of abuse and sincerely apologize to anyone who was harmed during their time in Scouting," the youth organization said in a written statement. "We believe victims, we support them, we pay for counseling by a provider of their choice, and we encourage them to come forward."The Boy Scouts issued the statement a day after a lawsuit was filed in Pennsylvania, accusing a scout leader in the state of committing "unspeakable acts of sexual abuse" against a boy during overnight camping trips and day excursions. The abuse included "hundreds of instances of fondling, hundreds of incidents of oral sexual assault and repeated attempts of anal penetration," according to the suit."The Boy Scout Defendants' conduct was an outrageous violation of societal norms and went so far beyond all possible bounds of decency so as to be regarded as atrocious and utterly intolerable in a civilized community," the suit says. The allegations were made by a now 57-year-old man identified only as S.D. The suit also alleged the assistant scoutmaster "actively groomed young boys under his charge for later sexual molestation." The accuser said he would be plied with drugs and alcohol before being abused, including acts of sodomy. The suit went on to say the scout leader "utilized physical, emotional and spiritual force and persuasion to impose his moral will upon the then minor S.D. in order to commit grievous, unspeakable acts of sexual abuse." The abuse began "sometime in approximately 1974 or 1975 and continuing until approximately 1979 or 1980," according to the suit. The accuser is being represented by Abused in Scouting, a group of three law firms that came together to shed light on abuse within the Boy Scouts. The group said it has been contacted by around 800 men over the last six months with credible allegations of abuse by scout leaders and it has identified about 350 scout leaders not contained in the so-called "perversion files," a blacklist of alleged molesters within the organization first identified in 2012 by the 2339

The coronavirus pandemic has sent the U.S. financial markets on a downward spiral. Last week, in just one day, the Dow Jones Industrial saw a 13 percent drop; it’s single biggest drop ever. “A lot of people are scared,” said Kelly Lannan with Fidelity Investments. “They don’t quite know what they are seeing, especially the average investor who is not following day to day.”Lannan explained most people looking at their 401k accounts are worried but advises people to put their market fears and emotions aside. “Market volatility can really be nerve-racking,” Lannan explained. “We get it from Fidelity investments perspective, and more importantly, we are here to help.”Fidelity is advising the best move right now may be no move at all. Referencing social media posts with the phase “don’t touch your face, don’t touch your 401k,” she explains most investors shouldn’t panic and divest their stocks during the economic downturn during the COVID-19 pandemic.“The most important thing to say, and I know this is really hard to hear, is not to panic,” Lannan explained. “This is a part of life, and the important thing to note, as we saw in 2008, is these downturns are usually followed by a recovery.”Not divesting doesn’t mean ignoring your investments and portfolio. In fact, Lannan believes those concerned about their portfolios and 401k’s should use this time to get more familiar with their investment plan and goals. She recommends a few steps in that review process: · Step One: Understand where you have your money by taking a look at your asset allocation and assess if it aligns with your age and your time horizon. If it does not, start making a plan to restructure your investments when the market starts to recover. · Step Two: Assess whether you have a diversified investment strategy. Diversification helps to soften the impact during market downturns. For those who have an employer sponsored retirement plan, you can reach out to your plan sponsor and ask question or get guidance on this. · Step Three: Take a look at your emergency fund. Fidelity recommends having three to six months of your essential expenses in savings. If you don’t have that and are concerned with possible unemployment due to the economic downturn, start to assess which investments you could move money from. Making a move, in terms of selling off your stocks, may not be the best decision now. However, better understanding your investment portfolio may help you make a better investment decision when the markets recover or even calm your concerns as they struggle during this downturn. “We know from behavioral finance that people make really, really bad decisions when they panic,” said Robert Stammers with the Charter Financial Analyst Institute. The CFA also recommends most invested in the stock market should hold off on divesting, especially if they have a long-term investment strategy. “If they do sell they’re going to be selling in a bad market,” Stammer explained. “They’re basically going to be doing what people tell you not to do, which is sell low and buy high, when the market comes back.”Historically, the market always rebounds. In 2008, it took five years, and in 2015 the market bounced back in about 13 months. Stammer pointed out, even with major downswings, overtime, those who stay invested still see an annual eight to nine percent return on average. “People did not think we’re going to get through the 2008 crisis,” Stammer said. “More than 60 percent said, ‘that’s it, this is never coming back, it is never going to be like this again.’ Then, after it did come back, the return on the market was like 17 percent.”The “stay the course” advice applies to mostly those with time to wait out the market. However, if you are closer to retirement, or in it, both Stammer and Lannan suggest you may want to get individual advice from a financial professional. When seeking help from a financial professional, it is wise to ask if that professional is a fiduciary, which is a financial advisor legally required to put your interest over theirs. Unfortunately, during economic downturns emotional investors are often easy targets for scammers or individuals selling financial instruments acting as financial advisors. The CFA has a 4263
