SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man who pleaded guilty to selling counterfeit oxycodone pills that led to the overdose death of La Jolla resident was sentenced in court Wednesday. According to the U.S. Attorney’s office, Trevon Antone Lucas was sentenced to 15 years in prison for the death of the La Jolla resident in 2018. According to court documents, Lucas pleaded guilty in June to distribution of fentanyl resulting in death. In his plea, Lucas admitted that he posted online ads for the illegal sale of prescription pills investigators say were laced with fentanyl. An investigation found that Lucas was twice warned about the danger of the pills he was selling. “Trevon Lucas knew the pills he was selling were deadly, but he sold them anyway, showing a remarkable disregard for the safety and well-being of his fellow human beings,” said U.S. Attorney Robert Brewer. “His greed transcended his humanity, and for that he will serve a very long sentence.” In his plea agreement, Lucas said he met with the victim in June of 2019, selling him nine “blues,” a slang term for prescription oxycodone pills. The pills were counterfeit and laced with fentanyl, according to documents. The documents go on the say Lucas had previously been warned about the sale of the pills. The victim reportedly died after consuming the pills. Three other people, Cenclair Marie Fields, Kevin Vandale Chandler and Donovan Adontas Carter also pleaded guilty in the case. 1454

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man whose car erupted into flames after crashing on the southbound I-805 Thursday morning is recovering after two passersby helped pull him to safety. Dashcam video from a nearby driver shows the moment the small white car suddenly veers to the right, slamming into a pick-up truck at Telegraph Canyon Road. Almost instantly smoke begins to rise from the hood, and then flames."When I saw the smoke we just ran over and saw we had to get him out. We unbuckled him out of the car, carried him out," said Tyrone Crawford. Crawford, a retired Customs and Border Protection officer and the friend he was with, a U.S. Marine, said they didn't hesitate to put their training into action. The two men were able to get the victim safely to the side of the highway, where first responders jumped in to start treating him. The man was alert and talking as he was wheeled into an ambulance.The California Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash, but all lanes of the SB I-805 were reopened by early afternoon. 1037

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A reported threat to San Diego State University campus was deemed not credible, according to campus police.University police were told of a person making "incoherent threats" on campus Thursday morning. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A Navy SEAL was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty to molesting his relative in California.Gregory Kyle Seerden pled guilty to seven counts of molestation following a preliminary hearing in which the victim testified. According to the court, the abuse happened while Seerden was a Navy SEAL stationed in San Diego. "We can start healing today by making him answer for his crimes every day for the rest of his pathetic existence," Alicia Reppert said, reading a prepared testimony.Reppert is Seerden's ex-wife. She said on the stand, that her daughter endured abuse from her father, starting from when she was five years old. The Deputy District Attorney said the girl mustered up the courage to report her father's crimes in 2015. At the pretrial hearing in May, the now 12-year-old testified in front of a judge. The testimony was so powerful, Seerden pleaded guilty to seven of the nine counts of molestation, without going to trial. He was sentenced to 60 years in prison. Seerden is already serving a 27-year federal sentence for manufacturing child pornography. In 2017, Seerden was accused of of raping a woman while serving in the Navy in Virginia. When authorities searched his cell phone, they found child pornography, including a video of him abusing another 5 year-old relative, while she slept. "In California, you can use that evidence to corroborate molestation in this case," Deputy DA Amy Colby said. Seerden was arrested on April 3, 2017, for the case involving child pornography.
