(KGTV): City leaders in San Diego want to bring another major military attraction to America's Finest City.On Tuesday, the City Council will vote on a resolution showing their support for bringing the National Medal of Honor Museum to town.The resolution touts the city's strong military ties and thriving tourism industry as reasons for why the Museum should pick San Diego.Right now, the National Medal of Honor Museum Foundation is still in the fundraising and planning phase. According to their website, the museum would tell the stories of each of the 3,500+ Medal of Honor recipients. It would also have an education center.There's no word from the museum on when they plan to pick a location.San Diego already has the USS Midway Museum, which brings in over one million visitors each year. The resolution also lists the San Diego Air and Space Museum, the Flying Leatherneck Aviation Museum, The Veterans’ Museum and Memorial Center, Mt. Soledad Veterans Memorial, Cabrillo National Monument and the San Diego History Center as other major military monuments in town.The city is also home to the largest concentration of US Military members in the world. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A federal count shows the number of homeless people increased by double-digit percentages in three San Francisco Bay Area counties over two years as the region struggled to tackle the growing problem, including 17% in San Francisco and 43% in the county that includes Oakland.More than 25,000 people were counted as homeless during an overnight tally conducted in San Francisco, Alameda and Silicon Valley's Santa Clara counties in January. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)-  Tens of thousands of people in San Diego are on a waiting list for rental assistance.According to the San Diego Housing Commission, the Section 8 voucher program is currently helping about 15,000 families.With the need so great, Team 10 wanted to know if everyone getting help qualifies for a voucher.RELATED: Making It in San Diego: Region needs 143,000 affordable homesUsing information from the San Diego Housing Commission, 10News compared 2017 data on family size and income limits to the maximum annual income limits allowed at the time. The comparison showed more than 20 cases where income was more than what was allowed at the time.Representatives with the housing commission said it is possible for people to be above the limit.  "We also have less than a quarter of one percent of our families who may exceed the 80 percent gross income, and that's a natural progression,” said Azucena Valladolid, Senior Vice President, Rental Assistance and Workforce Development. “Over the course of the time on our program, they may have increased their earnings.”RELATED: San Diego City Council passes affordable housing ordinanceValladolid explained that federal regulations require the San Diego Housing Commission to provide rental assistance to those families for an additional six months before they transition them off of the program.She said someone working for the housing commission determines whether or not someone qualifies for the voucher program. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- On Wednesday, San Diego County health officials reported seven new COVID-19 related deaths, bringing the regions total to 406.Healthcare workers witness this firsthand; many have been by their patients' side during the final moments."We hold their hands, we let them talk to their loved ones through electronic devices," said Dr. Salam Yatooma, an internal medicine physician at Sharp Grossmont. "It's very painful, actually the most stressful thing for us doctors and especially nurses."In his twelve years at the hospital, Yatooma said he has never witnessed anything like this.Yatooma has been on the frontlines since the pandemic began, and while many people have let their guards down, he reminds everyone the virus hasn't gone anywhere. Healthcare workers haven't had a break."There has been an increase, a significant increase, in the number of patients of hospitalizations that we see," he said. "It's definitely correlated with the relaxing of restrictions that the state and county are implementing. People were not wearing masks. People continued to have large gatherings, especially indoors, and people were not socially distancing. Unfortunately, this is going to start to show more and more now."Dr. Wilma Wooten, the county's public health officer, said in the last seven days, there have been 24 community COVID-19 outbreaks.The latest outbreaks reported happened in a healthcare setting, a restaurant or bar, a gym, a daycare, and a resort or spa.The outbreaks in community settings are defined as three or more positive COVID-19 cases in people from different households.To date, there have been 17,842 positive cases locally, about 11 percent have required hospitalization, according to the county health officials.Yatooma said while most hospitalized patients he has seen are older in age with underlying health issues, over the last several weeks, there has been a new trend."We did notice there's been an increasing number in the younger people," he said. "20 to 40-years-old."He said he doesn't expect things to slow down at hospitals in the coming months as more people head out, especially during flu season."This is a very dangerous trend we're going into. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- Thieves hit a well-known business causing thousands of dollars worth of damage. Bill Howe Plumbing, located on Aero Drive, had their work trucks vandalized as thieves steal gas from the gas tanks. Fleet manager Rhett Wheeler says the business has been targeted at least three times in the last month. “Its a shock that someone will crawl underneath a car with a drill, drill a hole in a gas tank, to steal a couple of gallons of gasoline,” says Wheeler. Thieves have damaged at least 10 vehicles, costing the family-owned company around ,000 in damages. “We end up losing a truck for two or three days per occurrence,” says Wheeler. Wheeler is urging everyone, including businesses, to check their vehicles of leaking gas before driving off. The company has reported the incidents to police. Managers are also working on more security measures for the future. 889
