CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A Chula Vista police officer shot and killed a man who stabbed him several times in the face Tuesday night.Two officers got a call from a resident on Melrose Ave. who said a man threw a piece of concrete the size of a baseball at his head abouut 9 p.m.The officers determined the man was at a home on Monterey Ave. and went to the address at 10:25 p.m., police said.A woman opened the home's front door to the two officers. The man began assaulting the first officer, police said, and they scuffled.Police tell 10News the man stabbed the officer up to half a dozen times in the head and face. The officer fired several times in self-defense, police said.At least one shot hit the man, who died on his way to the hospital. CVPD identified him as 27-year-old David Scott.The second officer and the department chaplain, who was on a ridealong, were able to assist the injured officer. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A South Bay family who discovered the body of their loved one buried in a backyard in Tijuana tells 10News there's now an arrest warrant for that woman's stepson. Fernanda Gonzalez went missing in Tijuana on February 2nd. Her sister, Erika Gonzalez, tells 10News Tijuana authorities issued the warrant for 20-year-old Aaron Seth Juarez wanted in connection with his stepmom's murder. The family's attorney, Jesus Rodolfo Cruz, tells 10News Fernanda's Jeep Grand Cherokee is still missing. The Jeep has California plates that read 6VXP431. Gonzalez first reported her sister missing in early February and posted on social media asking for help finding her. Gonzalez tells 10News each post had thousands of shares before she got a phone call that changed the course of the search, "somebody call me and said to keep looking for my sister because she was already dead and in the back of her yard".RELATED: Woman discovers her sister's body buried in Tijuana backyardAfter getting two calls saying the same thing, Gonzalez and her father went to Fernanda's home in Tijuana and searched the backyard, eventually finding Fernanda's body buried. CHULA VISTA (KGTV) - Chula Vista police are searching for a possible arsonist after two brush fires burned part of Otay river bottom Friday afternoon. Fire crews responded around 2 in the afternoon to the area south of Main Street and east of Broadway. While crews were working to put out the fire, they received a call of a second fire in the same location. The second fire presented more difficulties because of its location. Batallion Chief David Albright tells 10News, "it was kind of down in the slough, in the river bottom, so we were able to bring in a helicopter and make some water drops". Multiple water drops were made and fire crews had both fires out within an hour. Chula Vista police are continuing their search for a possible arsonist. They believe there could be a connection to one of the homeless individuals living near the Otay River bottom. San Diego County sheriffs also sent up their helicopter to look for a suspect in the brush but were unsuccessful. 985
CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Police are searching for the suspects accused of stabbing a 15-year-old to death as he tried to defend his friend at a Chula Vista birthday party in late January. According to police, the stabbing took place on January 31 on the 900 block of Maria Way in Chula Vista. Police say an argument broke out between two teenagers. The argument later turned physical and, as the 15-year-old -- identified by friends as Devin Griffiths -- tried to help a friend being attacked by several men, he was stabbed in the upper body, according to police. According to police, he “passed away with his family at his side.”Police say the suspect group is believed to consist of eight to 15 men and women between the ages of 17 and 20. Investigators believe there is a likelihood witnesses used their cell phones to record the incident and are asking anyone with video to come forward.
