"And I say, 'How’s the crowd going to be?' And, you know, it’s like you don’t have a crowd."Major League Baseball is opening its season Thursday.Sitting in the briefing with Trump was Yankees legendary closer Mariano Rivera. Power restoration after Hurricane Maria, which struck almost a year ago, has been completed, according to the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority."According to our reports, all of our clients that were without service since Maria now have electricity," said Geraldo Qui?ones a spokesman for the power authority, which is known as PREPA. He added that the customers "form part of the recuperation process of the electrical system after the devastation of the hurricane."The utility tweeted a picture?of "Charlie, Jazmín and children from Ponce," indicating the family was the last to have power restored. But those living in El Yunque National Forest take issue with the claim."It's something that's not true," resident Jose Salda?a Jr., 43, said on the phone, denying that power was restored, with frustration in his voice.Salda?a told CNN on Tuesday that he and his family have yet to see power restored to their home and local business inside El Yunque, on the northeast side of the island. His family runs La Muralla, a small business that has been selling local food in El Yunque for the past 40 years. His parents, both in their 60s, live above the business, and haven't had power since Hurricane Irma hit the island, weeks before Maria wreaked havoc in Puerto Rico.Salda?a said power has not been restored because of a back-and-forth with the US Forest Service and PREPA.When asked why PREPA is claiming 100% power restoration when El Yunque residents still don't have power, Qui?ones said they "don't have control in El Yunque" and pointed at the US Forest Service, saying the utility needs the agency's permission to be on federal land and install posts.Sharon Wallace, the forest supervisor for El Yunque National Forest, acknowledged the complexities of power restoration in El Yunque."I think they're (PREPA) doing the best they can," Wallace said.According to Wallace, PREPA asked to install a new power line that would have required a lengthier process and special permission. To restore power to the existing line however, Wallace said PREPA does not need additional permission to maintain the line in El Yunque."We knew from the beginning we would be one of the last ones," Wallace said, adding that power for the Forest Service headquarters was restored in April.Qui?ones said the two organizations remain in constant communication."We are confident that this will be resolved soon," he said. In the meantime, Salda?a said frustration is growing. His family business was shut down for five months after the hurricane hit.The family runs a generator about 15 hours a day, more than what's recommended, and spends about 0 a week on fuel to run it."It's more work, more sacrifices, more costs," Salda?a said.PREPA has 1.47 million power customers and returning power to the island after Maria has been a challenge after what has been the largest blackout in US history and?the second-largest in world history.Just last week, an outage knocked out power to almost 130,000 customers. Power was quickly restored. But Puerto Ricans on the island say the instability causes anxiety, especially during the Atlantic hurricane season, which began June 1.Nearly 3.4 million residents were left without power on September 20, when Hurricane Maria struck, as the island struggled with Hurricane Irma's brush earlier that month."It's like they've forgotten us," Salda?a said. 3390

POMONA (CNS) - A 38-year-old man was charged today with the murder of a 9-year-old girl whose body was found partially inside a large duffel bag near an equestrian trail in the Hacienda Heights area.Emiel Lamar Hunt -- who is believed to be the boyfriend of Trinity Love Jones' mother -- was arrested early Saturday in connection with the girl's death. Sheriff's officials said Hunt was found sleeping in his vehicle in a lot near San Diego International Airport. The arrest was assisted by the Port of San Diego Harbor Police. Hunt appeared briefly in a Pomona courtroom Tuesday, but his arraignment was delayed until April 16. He remains jailed in lieu of million bail. The criminal complaint alleges that Hunt has a 2005 conviction for child abuse from San Diego County. He could face up to 50 years to life in state prison if convicted as charged, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.Sheriff's officials said earlier that two "persons of interest'' had been detained for questioning in the case, but only Hunt was charged Tuesday.Sheriff's officials said they were not disclosing any additional information about the second person of interest, pending further investigation. The victim's relatives told reporters the girl's mother was the second person beingquestioned, but sheriff's officials would not confirm those reports, and there is no record of her being arrested.County workers clearing some brush in the area found the girl's body found about 10 a.m. March 5. The girl was partially inside a black roll-away- type duffel bag, with her head and upper body protruding from the partially zipped bag left at the bottom of an embankment close to Colima Road and the 3400 block of Hacienda Boulevard, near the His Lai Buddhist Temple, authorities said. The coroner's office ruled her death a homicide, but officials have not said how the girl died.Sheriff's detectives initially asked for the public's help in identifying the girl, releasing a composite sketch of the child and photos of the clothing she was wearing. Family members who created a memorial of candles, flowers, balloons, stuffed animals and photos near where the girl's body was found eventually confirmed her identity."Words can't explain what I'm feeling right now,'' Anthony Jones, Trinity's father, said at the memorial site. ``I just want answers. I just want justice. She was just the best -- full of character, full of life, full of joy.''Jones said he learned of his youngest daughter's death through a telephone call. 2536

President Donald Trump has reportedly signed off on a .8 trillion COVID-19 relief package.According to CNN, two sources with knowledge of the decision said the offer would be presented to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.According to the Associated Press, a GOP aide familiar said Pelosi's most recent public offer was about .2 trillion.Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Pelosi spoke for more than 30 minutes Friday afternoon, the AP reported. But according to Pelosi's spokesman, the newest offer doesn't "include an agreement on a national strategy for testing, tracing and other efforts to contain the spread of the virus," the New York Times reported.News of Trump signing off on a new stimulus relief plan comes just days after announcing he wasn't negotiating for a new COVID-19 relief bill until after the elections. 832

Pope Francis has declared that the death penalty is never admissible and that the Catholic Church will work towards its abolition around the world, the Vatican formally announced Thursday. The change, which has been added to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, makes official a position that the Pope has articulated since he became pontiff. The Church now teaches that "the death penalty is inadmissible because it is an attack on the inviolability and dignity of the person" and states that it will "work with determination towards its abolition worldwide," the Vatican said. The Catholic Church's teaching on the death penalty has been slowly evolving since the time of Pope John Paul II, who served from 1978 to 2005.In his Christmas message in 1998, he wished "the world the consensus concerning the need for urgent and adequate measures ... to end the death penalty."His successor Benedict XVI, in a document published in November 2011, called on society's leaders "to make every effort to eliminate the death penalty."Francis then wrote in a letter to the President of the International Commission Against the Death Penalty in March 2015 that "today capital punishment is unacceptable, however serious the condemned's crime may have been."He added that the death penalty "entails cruel, inhumane and degrading treatment" and said it was to be rejected "due to the defective selectivity of the criminal justice system and in the face of the possibility of judicial error."Vatican spokesman Greg Burke told CNN that the change was important but should not come as a surprise."It was expected for a long time starting with John Paul II," he said. "He had a document, the Gospel of Life, in which he said it is essentially the conditions with which were once considered okay for allowing the death penalty, have basically disappeared."The key point here is really human dignity, the Pope is saying that no matter how grievous the crime, someone never loses his or her human dignity. One of the rationales for the death penalty in Catholic teachings historically was to protect society."Obviously, the state still has that obligation, that is not being taken away here, but they can do that in other ways." 2215
