BEIJING, June 30 (Xinhua) -- The Communist Party of China (CPC) on Wednesday launched an online database on Marxist theory by uploading the Party's major political doctrines to an Internet website, an effort that analysts said is promoting its ideology through information technology.Uploaded contents to www.ccpph.com.cn include collected works in Chinese of Karl Marx, Frederick Engels, Vladimir Ilyich Lenin, as well as former CPC leaders Mao Zedong, Deng Xiaoping and Jiang Zemin.All the works are available free of charge for Internet users to read, while visually impaired readers can listen to recorded voices reciting the content in Chinese.The website also contains dozens of works explaining the doctrines, research of the communist party as well as the CPC's important documents, files and speeches of General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Hu Jintao and other current leaders.The database is sponsored by People's Publishing House, copyright owner of those Chinese works and major publisher of translated works of foreign political figures in China.Liu Binjie, Director of General Administration of Press and Publication, said that the official launch of these works on the Internet would expand the spread of Marxist theories.The world has entered an era when information, digitalization and other new communication methods are booming, said Huang Shuyuan, president of the People's Publishing House.The more advanced and powerful communication methods a party uses, the more influential it will be, Huang said.To help online readers find a classic Marxist reading, the database of the website provides a smart search function which finds the origin based on fractional words that readers input."It will greatly help researchers on Marxist doctrines like me, since many of those works could only be available in libraries," said Professor Zhang Guangming with the School of International Relations of Peking University."We could search for information about Marxist works at any time in my reading room," Zhang said.Prof. Zhang Xixian with the Party School of the CPC Central Committee said that the online database represents a new trend for the Party to promote its theories in a more attractive way.By the end of last year, the number of Internet users in China had reached 384 million users, covering about 28.9 percent of the country's total population.Li Changchun, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, also attached great importance to the publication of the Party's theories by using multimedia technologies.The People's Publishing House plans to digitalize its 3.6 billion-word Marxist theories books within two years to complete the database and provide it free of charge to the public.

BEIJING, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- China's insurers felt the side effect of the country's booming auto market -- with operating losses totaling 2.9 billion yuan (427 million U.S. dollars) in 2009.Insurance Association of China said here Friday that its 30 member insurance companies that are engaged in traffic compulsory insurance business underwrote 85.02 million units of vehicles in 2009, up 23 percent from a year ago.Total compulsory insurance premiums rose 21 percent year on year to 66.8 billion yuan (9.84 billion U.S. dollars), according to the association.Meanwhile, the industry handled 11.78 million claims regarding traffic liability mandatory insurance products last year with reimbursements totaling 47.2 billion yuan (6.95 billion U.S. dollars), it said.Offsetting 2.4 billion yuan (353 million U.S. dollars) investment revenue with 18.6-billion-yuan (2.74 billion U.S. dollars) operating costs, the industry posted a loss of 2.9 billion yuan (427 million U.S. dollars) last year, according to the association.Retail sales of China-made autos rose 17.18 percent year on year to 1.056 million units in July this year, raising auto sales in the first seven months to more than 8.24 million units, up 28.58 percent from a year earlier, according to data from the China Automotive Technology and Research Center released earlier this month.

TOKYO, July 23 (Xinhua) -- New Japanese Ambassador to China Uichiro Niwa on Friday called for deepening of Sino-Japanese mutually beneficial strategic relations."In recent years the leaders of the two countries have created a conducive environment for the development of bilateral ties. I am very glad to see that," Niwa told Chinese press in Tokyo.Upon his assignment to China, the Japanese ambassador said China and Japan, as close neighbors, should deal with each other for the upcoming 1,000 or 2,000 years rather than 10 or 20 years. In the long run, both countries share a lot of common interests, and a stable, friendly relationship is the ultimate goal.The former president of Itochu Corp. said that he aimed to boost communication, strengthen economic cooperation, and build on the mutual trust between the leaders of the two countries.Niwa also said in the age of multipolarization, no one can conduct diplomacy with knowledge of China alone. So the relations with South Korea, and the United States are also important.Niwa was appointed by Prime Minister Naoto Kan in June to the key diplomatic post, making him the first ambassador to China from outside the government sector since the two countries normalized ties in 1972. HARARE, June 18 (Xinhua) -- The National Art Gallery of Zimbabwe said on Friday Zimbabwe's stone sculpture on exhibition at the 2010 Shanghai World Expo has particularly proved popular among Chinese visitors.Assistant curator Thomas Pasirai who recently went to Shanghai as an expert to help set up Zimbabwe's exhibition in the African pavilion, told Xinhua in an interview that the Chinese were fascinated by Zimbabwe's stone works."The Zimbabwean pavilion is fantastic and the Chinese are very excited about our pavilion to the extent that we have got some Chinese who are being photographed with some of the life-size stone works while others get excited to the extent of kissing the works," Pasirai said.He said Zimbabwe was in a unique position in that it was one of the few countries that produce stone sculpture different from other African countries."Other African countries do wood work and other materials but with us it is that stone sculpture which is particularly exciting the Chinese," he said.The National Art Gallery shipped about 80 pieces of stone carvings that are on display at the Shanghai Expo. These were sourced from various artists and different studios in the country, Pasirai said.Other products being marketed include basketry, wooden drums and stools.Organizations such as the National Parks and Wildlife Management Authority and the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority are also exhibiting."By the end of this month we will be having exhibitions like trophies and stuffed animals," he said.Pasirai said Zimbabwe's pavilion was exceptionally designed according to the Great Zimbabwe, the amazing ancient ruins from which Zimbabwe derive its name. The ruins, in scripted in 1986 as the UNESCO World Heritage site, is among Zimbabwe's great tourist attractions.The other side of the pavilion shows the mighty Victoria Falls while the other shows pictures of flora and fauna and the different projects being undertaken in Zimbabwe to improve the lives of communities, Pasirai said.He said Zimbabwe was highlighting these projects in keeping with the theme of the Expo, which is "Better City, Better Life" from where Zimbabwe has adapted its theme "Transforming our Communities for A better Life"."We are doing this to enable the Chinese to understand us more. We want them to understand that Zimbabwe is a beautiful nation where they can enjoy the flora and fauna."Zimbabwe is sharing exhibition space with other African countries in the African pavilion where it is neighbors with Zambia and Uganda.There is also a selling bazaar where exhibitors from different African countries are selling their wares.Pasirai commended China for the excellent way it had created the Expo, noting that China's design culture was very advanced.China's promotion of the green environment and the general hygiene on the streets also caught Pasirai's eye who hoped Zimbabweans will emulate some of the hygienic standards in the Asian country."The Chinese do have a culture of management of waste from an individual perspective and I hope our people will learn from them, "he said.Zimbabwe will send about 60 small and medium enterprises to exhibit at the Expo which started in May and ends in October this year. The entrepreneurs will go in batches of 10 per month.More than 200 countries and up to 80 million visitors are expected to descend on Shanghai for the six-month exposition, and Zimbabwe will get a chance on August 11- a national day set for it- to showcase its economic, tourism and business potential to the world.Each participating country will have a day set aside for it to market itself to the outside world.Apart from marketing various products, Zimbabwe has said it will take the Expo as an image building opportunity after years of negative publicity from the Western media.

BEIJING, July 29 (Xinhua) - As China's urban population reached 46 percent of the total population last year, Chinese urban dwellers became the largest such population in the world, according to a 'blue paper' released on Thursday.By the end of 2009, China's urban population reached 620 million as both the annual birth rate and the total urban population became the world' s largest, according to "City' s Blue Book: China's Urban Development Report No. 3," which has been released by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the Social Sciences Academic Press.It said China's urban population is twice that of the population of the United States and one quarter more than the total population of 27 countries of the European Union.By 2015, urban residents in China will make up about 52 percent, and by 2030, 65 percent of the total population in the country, it said."A milestone change for urban development will take place when urban people make up more than 50 percent of the population and thus surpass the number of rural people," the paper said."The 50-percent point phenomenon will occur in the mid-12th Development Program period (2011-2015) when both the number of urban and rural Chinese will reach 680 million," it said.The role of the urban economy will be further strengthened by that time, it said, adding that the urban economy would continue to drive the domestic demand.
