Many of them had known each other for years. That's no surprise in a small town like Sutherland Springs, Texas, where lives intersect daily on the street, at school and in the church.Twenty-six of those lives ended Sunday when Devin Kelley walked into the First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs with an assault rifle.Law enforcement has not released the identities of any of the people killed, but family members have come forward with details and photos of their slain loved ones. Here's what we know so far about the people who died: 546

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The mayor of Los Angeles is authorizing the city to shut off the utilities at homes and businesses that host large parties during the COVID-19 pandemic.Mayor Eric Garcetti made the announcement Wednesday, arguing that such large gatherings put the entire community at risk of contracting the deadly coronavirus.Garcetti says he will allow the city to shut off Los Angeles Department of Water and Power service in “egregious” cases, in which houses, businesses and other venues are hosting unpermitted large gatherings.“While we have already closed all nightclubs and bars, these large house parties have essentially become nightclubs in the hills,” said Garcetti. “Many times, the homes are vacant or used for short term rentals. And beyond the noise, traffic and nuisance, these large parties are unsafe and can cost Angelinos their lives.”Starting on Friday night, Garcetti says if the Los Angeles Police Department responds and verifies that a large gathering is occurring at a reoffending property, officers will provide notice and initiate the process to request that DWP shut off service within the next 48 hours. The mayor’s announcement came hours after a city councilman introduced a motion to increase penalties for property owners who hold large parties in violation of public health orders. Under the motion, penalties for these gatherings could also include utility shut offs. The city’s actions come after a deadly shooting at a mansion party on Tuesday, where police say a 35-year-old woman was killed and multiple other people were wounded, KNBC and KCBS report. The Los Angeles Public Health Department continues to advise residents to keep 6 feet apart from others, only gather with those you live with, wash or sanitize hands often, and always where a mask when leaving home. 1821
McDonald’s plans to accelerate “some restaurant closings previously planned for future years” because of the pandemic, resulting in 200 closures in the U.S. in 2020.More than half of the closures are restaurants in Walmart store locations, according to the company. They did not detail which stores would be closing. The announcement came during an earnings call with investors and reporters Tuesday, in which McDonald’s talked about their up-and-down second quarter of the year. They said 96% of its 39,000 restaurants worldwide are now open, compared to 75% at the start of the second quarter in April. But the recovery is uneven. Improvement has slowed in China, but same-store sales are improving in the U.S. McDonald’s net income fell 68% to 4 million during the second quarter.McDonald’s has about 14,000 restaurants in the U.S. and on the earnings call said they will have a gain of 350 net new restaurants this year as construction gets started in parts of the country.McDonald’s is not alone in closing restaurants during the pandemic. A recent report from Yelp stated 60 percent of restaurants that closed during the pandemic are permanently closed. 1168
MCAS MIRAMAR (KGTV) -- Some Grand Princess passengers quarantined at MCAS Miramar say, what the President said in his address Friday about the quality care on base, is not a reality. According to the San Diego County Public Health department, two female Grand Princess passengers in their 70's have tested positive for the Coronavirus. A quarantined passenger at Miramar told 10News that not only has she not been tested, but the base also seems to be understaffed and chaotic. It was supposed to be a lovely two-week vacation around the Hawaiian Islands. "Another day in paradise… in prison," Karen Lira said.By prison, Lira means, MCAS Miramar. She and her husband Jeff have been there since late Thursday, after eight days of self-quarantine on the Grand Princess cruise ship, floating off the coast of San Francisco. "It was quite the waiting game, which just ramped up everybody's stress," Lira said. She said that stress increased tenfold after the Government diverted their vacation to San Diego. "After we left a ship at five pm, we heard it into a bus, which was a crazy situation and then crammed into a plane. And once we got onto the airport, we were told that there was no pilot for the plane," Lira said. Lira said she was baffled to see President Donald Trump on Friday, address the public on how smooth the transition from the cruise ship to Miramar played out. "We had tremendous success in Oakland, where Vice president Pence did a fantastic job," the President said."It was not smooth. It wasn't a beautiful operation," Lira responded. When they finally got to their room on base around 2 a.m. Friday, they were given a welcome note. It explained that food would be delivered to their rooms three times a day. They were advised to always wear a mask, when they stepped out of their rooms. They were also told to keep a six-foot distance from each other at all times."People found out there was food in another building, and people were going a little crazy," Lira said. "Social distancing, wear masks, stay six feet apart from each other. That went out the window immediately when we got off the ship."Lira said she wants the public to know the truth about their situation. So far, they have not been tested. They haven't even got their temperature taken since arriving in Miramar. She is hoping the situation gets better, so she can get back to Oregon, virus-free."If we are not tested any day soon, when is the clock going to start ticking? We are going to be let out of here?" Lira asked. So far, Lira and her husband are feeling healthy. At this point, they want to get tested, so that a negative result can finally get them home to Oregon. She said she is happy to continue the self-quarantine at home if necessary. 2747
